    Thanks for vid how can u check if working besides doing a file transfer. Network map on the router doesnt really show if aggregation working like it does on the NAS

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi, If the NAS is showing it's working and you have setup the router right, then it should be fine. Some routers will show the aggregated connections and others won’t, not much you can really do about that. Testing the speed probably won’t work with only 4 drives as there will be a bottleneck there. You could pull one connection and see if it works then plug it back in then pull the 2nd and test again it should fall over without any issue.
      All the best and kind regards Dave

    Thank you! I used this for my QNAP NAS and my ASUS router. I initially had it working with my previous NAS but I couldn't turn it back on when I upgraded my NAS. The settings are similar for both NAS so it was pretty easy to set up again.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  2 года назад +1

      Hi Shahriar,
      If you are having problems.
      Remember to make backups of settings for both Router and NAS before you start, during the process and when you have it working. Backup, Backup, Backup.
      You may be able to simply update the MAC address of the NAS in the Routers settings for both static IP and Link Aggregation
      Or you may have to start again.
      1. Deactivate Link Aggregation on the Router and NAS
      2. Get the MAC address set for the NAS on the Router as they will have changed Set in Static IP
      3. Confirm that Link Aggregation and Static IP Address are set right on both Router and NAS before applying settings and restarting.
      4. Remember to Backup all settings on both Router and NAS!
      I hope this helps
      All the best

    Hi thanks for the videos 1 question does the Diskstation (http/https) and Plex server (SMB2) have to be the same IP address ?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  Год назад +2

      Hi Ricky, The IP address is tied to the MAC address of the physical device which is why when doing Link Aggregation both the Router/Switch and Server need to be configured to see the multiple ports as one and have a static IP addres for the NAS. So as long as your Plex server is on the Synology then yes the IP address will be that of the Synology.
      If you are having any problems with finding it then you may want to look at what port numbers are being used such as TCP: 32400 (access to the Plex Media Server) [required]
      UDP: 1900 (access to the Plex DLNA Server)
      UDP: 5353 (older Bonjour/Avahi network discovery)
      TCP: 8324 (controlling Plex for Roku via Plex Companion)
      UDP: 32410, 32412, 32413, 32414 (current GDM network discovery)
      TCP: 32469 (access to the Plex DLNA Server)
      source support.plex.tv/articles/201543147-what-network-ports-do-i-need-to-allow-through-my-firewall/#:~:text=The%20most%20important%20port%20to,Plex%20Media%20Server)%20%5Brequired%5D
      I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

    did the same thing, trying to write files from two different computers to synology 923+ at the same time, but the total write speed is 117 MB per second. Hard drives are IronWolf PRO (write speed about 250mb/s), no SSD in NAS. All wires supports 1gb/s. Why the speed is so low?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Mr PbyH,
      I am getting about 800-900 Mbps write on average.
      What you are seeing is the cap of you Ethernet which is 1000 Mbps (or 1 Gbps) or 125 MB/s
      look at www.gbmb.org/mbps-to-mbs 900 Mbps = 112.5 MB/s So each of your drives is 2x faster than you connection.
      To get faster write speeds you will need to upgrade all your network equipment to at least 2.5 Gbps
      I hope this clears things up for you.

      @@BrenTeckITSupport Thanks for the answer, but let me disagree: there are 2 cables from the router, each 1 gigabit per second to different computers. There are also 2 cables between the synology and the router connected in a bond. The total throughput of the bond is 2Gbps, I expect the router to take data at this speed and transmit it to 2 computers at 1 Gbps each. An I not right?

      @@MrPByH Hi MrPByH, I get what you are saying and in theory you are right you should be getting faster speeds, 1Gbps per PC minus overheads. What Router do you have? As it may have a Through put limit that you are maxing out. I assume its Server -> Router -> PC no switch or AP in-between. Also how have you set the bonding on the router and Server as both need to be set to IEEE 802.3ab LACP / Balance XOR draft v1 will do but LACP is better / with Adaptive Load Balancing being the slowest. You can find out more kb.synology.com/en-global/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/connection_network_linkaggr?version=7

In the end it didn't work either.

      @@MrPByHHi MrPByH, Sounds like you have done everything right. I am suspecting the Asus ax3000 LAN is the bottleneck here. I can not find what its throughput should be on there site so really don't know. You can look at www.asuswrt-merlin.net/about but it's for V1 not V2 so may not work and will invalidate you warranty. I feel that Non-Blocking Throughput: The maximum amount of network traffic (Generally in Gbps) that the Router/Switch that transmit at the exact same time. Forwarding Rate: The maximum amount of packets (regardless of size) the switch can process per second. Could be the problem. Have you tried JUMBO packets? Something I have not tried as I don't know if all my devices support it. I assume you are looking at the Synology Resource Monitor not the computers task manager! Also make sure you do not have any background task happning on the server such as drive diagnostics, cleaning, error checking etc.
      I will see what happens if I get a couple of computers writing to my NAS at the same time out of curiosity. I have UniFi set up now but still limited to 1Gb switches.
      Hope this helps

    Helpful video, so I have an unmanaged switch DGS 1016A, that supports link aggregation but after the setup process I get "Failed To Establish IEEE 802.3 ad connection" right under Network Status where it shows the bond connection in DSM, Everything still works; I can access the NAS and its content, but I get that message does that mean link aggregation is not configured? What do you recommend? I did noticed you restart the switch, should i try that?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  2 года назад +1

      Hi, CGameDev The DSG 1016A is an unmanaged switch so it does not support link aggregation you need a managed switch.
      So I would recommend a Ubiquiti / UniFi Switch such as the US-16-150W 150 W 16 Port UniFi PoE Switch amzn.to/3NdoguI if you only want 16 ports and PoE or The US-24 Unifi Switch amzn.to/3w9CNln if you want more ports and no PoE.
      Unifi from Ubiquiti does smaller switches I am recommending these as they are close to what you have. Here is a range of UniFi products amzn.to/3sxeDPy
      You would then need to set the ports on the switch to be link aggregated as well and then it will all work.
      In my video, I was using my Asus RT-AX88U amzn.to/37FRWRR router which supports link aggregation but on ports 1&2 only
      I am now only using UniFi equipment as it is more reliable, stable, faster and expandable than the Asus AX88U. I still love the AX88U but I outgrow it but it will be fine for most homes.
      I will be doing a mini-series on setting up an UniFi network from scratch, so I hope you subscribe and click the bell notification button as it's in the pipeline for editing.
      I hope this helps any more questions please ask.
      Thanks and all the best David

    Thanks for your tutorial, it's clear and easy to follow. I've setup Link aggregation using with lan 1 and lan 2. The the asus router when enabling the link aggregation there is only 1 option for lan 1 and 2. I am wondering is it possible to setup 4 port link aggregation with asus router to fully use all 4 lan ports? Thanks.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  2 года назад +2

      Hi
      It will depend on your NAS and router/switch.
      I am going to have a guess and say for your setup, No. If your router only has 4 ports your lucky you could link aggregate two of them. The Asus AX88U only allows for link aggregation with 2 ports out of the 8 and for home users that is excellent.
      If you are wanting to aggregate more ports you will want a much bigger more powerful enterprise switch. Something like the Unifi 24 port Non_PoE switch amzn.to/3I0uUCM or the Unifi 16 port PoE switch amzn.to/3FVlZAI
      If you are wanting to aggregate 4 ports together you will want at least a 16 port switch otherwise you won't have enough connections for other devices. If you don't have that many devices then you won't see the benefit of aggregation more than the two ports anyway. I am running a fair amount of data through my 2x1Gbps ports and the bottlenecks are internet connection by far, endpoint computers only having a max of 2.5G but can't use it because of 1G switch and HDD read/write speeds.
      If you are wanting or need more data throughput upgrade the Asus router with Unifi kit amzn.to/316bkEp. I will be doing a video on that. All recorded just need to get round to editing. Also, consider installing SSDs into the NAS or using the M.2 slots for cashing such as Crucial P2 CT1000P2SSD8 1 TB Internal SSD amzn.to/3xsUMlO (I have not tried this myself)
      All the best and let us know how you get on.

    great video. Maybe someone can help me figure out, if I am able to achive therortical speeds of 2000mbps with link aggregation but the AX88U have only gigabit ports, will I be able to trasfer files at 2000mbps from my pc that has 2.5gigabit port despite it being connected to only 1gigabit port on the router

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Gabitg, The quick answer is no. If you had a 2.5 gigabit switch that you then use two ports to go to your AX88U then the max theoretical would still only be 2 gigabit not 2.5
      In most cases 1 gigabit is still absolutely fine. Video editing 4k you would see a benefit of 2.5 or 10g but all equipment would need to support it for that benefit and a NAS with more then 8 HDDS or SSDs for faster data transfer.
      Kind regards and all the best Dave

      Hi Hisham,
      Are you wanting external access to the Router Settings, the DS818+ or both?
      Also do you want to host a VPN and if so do you want the router or DS to host the VPN or use a remote desktop?
      I am asking as there are a number of ways to do this. Also do you have a static or Dynamic IP address?
      The simplest would probable be to use there propriety remote login systems.
      Using the Open VPN on the DS would be the best way in my opinion.
      Hope this give your food for thought, let me know witch way your want to go and I will try and make a video for that.
