I love the simplicity of this keyer design. The idea for adding the adjustment is a good one. I think I will make one out of Plexiglas and maybe add lights to it as well. Thanks for the idea.
I have several pieces of mahogany that I can use for this. I always wanted to do something with it and this looks like a great project. 👍

Excellent! This is just what I was looking for (subconsciously, hehe). I've been wanting to learn Morse code and have borrowed a nice Kent paddle from my club. But I can't keep it forever and I feel I should be reasonably sure Morse code is really something for me before I shell out the money to buy a nice Palm Radio picoPaddle. Nicely done, I built one out of PC Board. completely. center strip going out to two screws reverse of what you did here. darn thing works as gud as my Vibroplext!. Thanks for sharing your design and completed one love the simplicity of it. 73! de Ellis WA1RKS
Kevin. For a more stable material you can sacrifice a plastic cutting board. Or... You can "melt" down HDPE milk jugs and other containers to make your own sheet stock. That would be absolutely few material, as it's just trash or recycling anyway. Lots of videos on the topic.
Yep, all good suggestions. I like working with wood though, it feels good, smells good, and there's just something cathartic about carving or sanding it.

Nice simple design. How about using a nut at the screw head instead of all those washers. Will allow you to make a spacing adjustment and lock it down. 73 WB3BJU
The washers gave me more fine control with smaller changes possible by adding or removing one at a time.
Hi Kevin. I built the K3NG arduino keyer and I thought that in the config I can change from iambic A to iambic B mode. The difference as I remember is the "buffering of the dots" as you mention. So maybe you can change the keyer mode in you transmitter.

I did try it on iambic B tonight and still dropped an occasional dot. But it was better. It could be the size of the loop he's running in the code. Maybe sometimes it's just not checking the dot input at precisely the right time. In my keyer, I have a loop that's running 100 times a second. Much less than that and I had an occasional missed dot. It's tricky when your software has a lot to do.
Kevin, I know you 3D print, have you seen the Iambic paddles you can download from Thingiverse?
There are a few. I have designed my own as well. They are up on thingiverse and if you look at my recent videos, you'll find the project.
I like the paddle but how do you send dots and dashes? I send dits and dahs.

Ultimatic mode instead of Iambic?
Maybe, but every keyer I've ever used will buffer one input. It's muscle memory now, and I have to fight that. After writing the software for my supersimplekeyer project, I learned how hard it is to do properly. In fact, I still need to tweak my software some more. Maybe I'll tackle that this week. Race conditions and semaphores, software takes a whole different type of thinking.
I found my Arduino DDS is a pain to program, even when starting with one of Pete N6QW's sketches. I know it worked before, but I dread trying to fix it. You definitely have to have the right kind of patience...
Instead of wood you can use plastic chopping board.
