His podcasts have been weaving in and out of popularity since 2017. His podcast with Trisha Paytas was actually pretty popular for a while. My opinion of him also definitely goes back and forth. I like Ethan overall, but sometimes he has awful takes, either because he’s uninformed, or cause he sometimes gets too emotional to think straight. But he’s doing well for himself. His wife’s got a clothing line and they have 2 or 3 kids I think
I don't feel Anthony was being fully honest in his response..................because up until roughly five years ago when bro-country really started to precipitously decline in favor of more authentic, grounded fare led by Chris Stapleton's breakout performance with Justin Timberlake at the CMA Awards.............Mark of Spectrum Pulse was literally the ONLY music critic on RUclips willing to review country music fairly and objectively. Then Grady Smith started establishing himself somewhat via his then-job at the Guardian before ultimately quitting and launching his RUclips channel...............but other than that, country music was sneered at among countless other outlets as something they were above or nothing worth even considering intellectually: like it was an inherently artless afterthought. But now more recently: ever since country music has largely closed the streaming gap with other genres to become a most relevant crossover force.................many of these same publications who used to sneer at country music and its fanbase as philistines or what not have been overcorrecting their previous biases against the genre with how cool and relevant it has become among a large cross-section of listeners. And though to his credit Fantano lists some legit talented names, it still comes across as a bit calculating simply because more of the cream of the genre is rising to the top now, whereas for a long while before you'd have to scour well outside of mainstream playlists to find the good stuff.

This is so weird. Queer stuff in country music has been around for a while (lavender country n Wilma burgess come to mind). Experimentation, cultural exchange , n genre bending have been just as important to the craft as tradition is n it really doesn't make anyone less "country"for exploring the music cosmos . That'd be like telling a hip hop artist that they aren't really hip hop for experimenting with psych rock or free jazz. I'd highly recommend the album the light saw me by Jason Boland and the stragglers and pretty much anything written by guy Clark, as well as the podcast cocaine n rhinestones if anybody wants to find some kickass music n insight on how far country music can really go.
all he said was he doesn’t know if it’s a typical country album. If a hip hop artist dives into psych rock or free jazz than it wouldn’t be your typical hip hop album, he’s not saying it’s a bad thing
@@nicolasrield I get part of what they're saying that it shouldn't be weird to have country music exploring more left leaning social issues and genre bending. Although, Anthony wasn't ascribing a prescriptive claim, but more of a descriptive claim. Country fans lean conservative drowning out any potential queer representation in country music. On another side note, most people who consume music casually are going to have a narrow spectrum of what a genre can be. Hip hop fans really wouldn't want much experimentation as they have a more stricter schema of hip hop. This is even more true for country fans. Ashlylippy seems to live in this extreme bubble of what music can be, probably consuming and knowing more music than the average person, and ignores or is ignorant of different perspectives.

Zach Bryan the only country I love, amazing lyrics. Non of the generic country bullshit these days.
my respect grew immensely when he mentioned sturgill simpson, anyone who knows the gem that is sturgill is truly a lover of music in a general sense
Queer country connoisseur Anthony Fantano.
I’m not a country fan, but props to Anthony for being a fair, open-minded critic to country
Why does Ethan seem to go out of his way to be as unappealing as possible?
Because his wife has an onlyfans

Only here for Fantano. Didn’t realize H3 was still around in media. Thought he just ran a company. What happened after Vape Nation?
The podcast blew up a while ago

Fantano needs to check out Billy Strings.
Sturgill’s the 🐐
Nick Shoulders, Charlie Crockett, Willi Carlisle. If you haven't reviewed any of these artists albums, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
