I like the theme of adding cores to your reserve from the void. It's essentially ramp. Yeah the spirits that actually have those abilities take a lot of cores to summon and subsequently level up, however they're accelerating your main resource, which is the cores. On subsequent turns you'll have more cores so it likely ends up being worth it in the long run.

No, attacking will always be directed at the life unless you have an effect to let you attack into spirits
