- The Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who stirred worldwide controversy in 2007 with drawings depicting the prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog, was killed in a car crash near the southern town of Markaryd on Sunday, police have said.
Vilks, 75, who had been living under police protection since the drawings were published, was traveling in a police vehicle that collided with a truck. Two officers were also killed.

This highlights the vast difference in mentality between East and West. I"m not a big fan of mr Vilks, I find part of his art production to be cheap provocation, but I wholeheartedly suscribe to the idea of freedom of speech even when I disagree about what's being put forth. . As a Christian I see people disrespect, mock and villify my religion on a daily basis. But what am I suppose to do? Kill people? Hunt them down and destroy them, report them to the police? I'm by far much more shocked by the violence, lynching and assassination attempt perperated against mr Vilks by islamofascists as a result of a petty little drawing.

Sweden has a secular state. This means that freedom of speech and expression is more important than religious people's feelings. Artists like Lars Vilks haven't only drawn caricatures of Muhammad. Religious symbols and other figures such as Jesus, Adam, David, Joseph etc. have been depicted way more.
Their goal was to test new limits and show that in a society where we have freedom of speech, you have this right even if it offends people. As long as it's not harmful or dangerous to others.
Why do you believe that someone was deserving of constant threats, murder attempts and ultimately deserves death and hell??
