This would be so cool especially if you stylized the outfit a bit to look more menacing. Celebrating awakening by referencing its mechanics and a design that leans into a dark Robin which is not Robin possessed by Grima AGAIN.
This is what I was betting on before the reveal... and is probably what we would have gotten had she won last year instead of Gullvieg. Unfortunately, in hindsight, this is basically now Gullvieg's stick. So we got an improved mage version of Brave Male Robin and Young Male Robin instead.
Still more inspired than what happened with Brave Tiki. Finally got time in the spotlight and it was just Young Tiki again. The immediate powercreep was just salt in the wound
It's no where near more inspired. It's the same artist, same outfit, and basically the same character. Literally no design elements were added between the two other than the different head and weapon. It's by far worse. Tiki's is a shame definitely, but this is just horribly uncreative.

17:06 while it wasn't a Hero's Relic like the Aegis Shield, there was a sacred weapon linked to the Crest of Fraldarius in the 'Sword of Moralta' in the same vein as The Inexhaustible (which is doubly strange that thats what they gave Brave Bernadetta but not Brave Felix)
They could also have used the Sword of Zoltan. Yeah the Zoltan weapons aren't unique, but the game just straight up gives him one by doing his Support conversation with Dimitri. So it's tied closely enough to him specifically that they could have used it.
I was thinking that, but considering they were going for the Mortal Savant element, I think the Levin Sword was a good way to combine both sword and reason in Heroes.
@@nathanm5533 They kind of already implemented it with base Felix, though. Really, I would prefer not to attach the Aegis Shield proper to Hopes Felix. I just really don't like the Hopes versions of the characters.
I don't understand why people complain about B!Alfonse. I mean this not like it's the first time they do that. They do it every time they get an opportunity (Roy, Ike, Gullveig, Byleth, etc). Same for the two 3H but with promoted class. The outfits of the brave heroes have never been original.
You're honestly not wrong about the brave alts not being original. The only brave alt that is original is probably brave Eirika, and maybe even that can be considered unoriginal.
Its because those ones actually did something unique despite dressing up as someone else. Roy & Ike hadn't gotten an alt until that point, Gulling wasn't playable yet, & Qwertina has that outfit in 3 houses.
@@Mima-sama Nor should they be "original" TBH. We voted for the original, after all, not for some huge departure from what made that character great. Some reimagining is good, but not completely distorting the character.
I didnt get the idea that PM1 was calling them out. Rather he's literally just showing the two artwork back to back. His design is based off of Gustav and you could tell his first pose was similar to his as well on purpose. Just my 2 cents. Dont think there was anything malicious from the post.

I was hoping Bernie would be a Lance unit and they'd lean into the idea of her Vengeance skill from 3H. But overall I'm very happy with her design, she looks incredible, and wielding The Inexhaustible is sick.
For the Robins, it’s even funnier that they got Wada Sachiko again. I always choose the Wada Sachiko unit but man, I’m probably not this year for the first time in 7 years because BRUH

Like non tellius, just look at Hector and Marth. For tellius, it still looks really off imo like the many Ikes. I feel like I’m also slowly finding myself go towards other artists like Niji Hayashi and Yoshiku
I'm not bothered at all, both Robins serve as Chrom's counselor in both parallel universes, they have the same role, but IS did give them different weapons and kits. Having a unit resemble their parent as a brave came as early as Brave Roy and Brave Ike, the 1st CYL, and the pose mimicry is a nod to that, you can also look at Ayra and Larcei doing that, is a sign that they learned their parent fighting style. The 3houses braves are their promoted versions, just like Brave Lysethia. The other option to get a timeskipped student is their Warriors version. Yea I prefer Robin to have the levin, and Felix do have his own pref weapon in 3H, but I do not mind it. We already have the units have different and wacky weapons in seasonal alts, freaking Winter Bernie builds a house around her and summons a blizzard.
Personally, I'm very satisfied with how they handled Alfonse, art and skill wise, being now a kingly version of himself, it's not rare for princes to wear their father's clothes once they become kings in fantasy stories. The rest, well, I really don't care much about them overall.
??? I mean, making most of her alts after that one wield Mulagir/Bows was the one of the stupidest decisions IS has ever made, when we don't have her in her Blade Lord attire with Mani Katti. But Lyn's Brave alt was very original back then.
The community asked for Brave Robin again. They got Brave Robin again. They have no reason to complain after asking for a second serving of the same thing.
the previous 7 CYLs made it clear that the units would be getting alternate or costumes in direct relation to the character's own personal history, boring or not. I dont see how there could be any illusion we could be getting something different. Shrug
Honestly, i didn’t really care for either M/F Robin, especially for CYL, but the fact that Robin fans put in so much effort, campaigning, and time towards such a popular character to just get shafted for it is INSANE. You guys deserved better (still love felix weapon/art though lol)
Felix and Bernie are the most creative ones as far as artwork goes. I mean IS established with CYL 4 that the Brave versions of Three Houses would be how they brought the time skip versions of the characters into the game. They also established that the characters would be in Master Classes, outside of the Lords who had unique classes. So, as long as Felix and Bernie looked like a Mortal Savant and Bow Knight class respectively the artist could make adjustments; for example Felix's strap holding the swords on his back has his Crest on it, and instead of having the game's almost black armor Bernie has this purple armor that is brighter. Byleth and Gatekeeper were special cases. Since Byleth's "Enlightened One" class was used for her Legendary alt so IS made her Sothis but "bigger," and Gatekeeper wasn't even a recruitable character so they decided to just summon the Gate with him. EDIT: Forgot to mention Marianne as a Dancer, i'm sorry about that. While Dancer isn't a Master Class it is still a very good combat support role she naturally excels at in-game. Since her likely Master Class would be Gremory if you just focus on reason and faith IS didn't want do that since Lysthia was also a Gremory. While that is a weird thing to say with the current Robin situation IS does have the excuse of Marianne and Lysthia being different characters instead of them being genderswapped versions of one character. Also, there is a VERY SMALL detail to separate the two Robins. I noticed that Male Robin had a neckerchief around his collar while Female Robin has a Bow Tie around her collar. I just thought that was funny.
To me, the only problem with Bernie is that the Bow Knight outfit is very bland, so she doesn,t stand out as a Brave hero. She makes me think more of an exalt knight Chrom look. Plus, eventually, Brave alts will have to recoup classes with how many master classes vs characters there are. I think using Bernie's dad as inspiration would've been the right call for her, as a way to have overcome her trauma and taken on her responsibilities after the war, gaining confidence in herself, as an interesting storytelling detail for her. Then again, she would be the primary bow knight in 3H so it does make sense to use her. Maybe a mix of both could've been good. I am intrigued at what they would do if Dorothea was chosen though. Gremory and Dancer are already taken, so maybe they,d make her a singer instead and give her Mittelfrank garb? That would be cool.
TBH, I’m actually ok with F.Robin wearing the same attire as M.Robin. Because the outfit itself looks good. Though, F.Robin is wearing it a bit better.
My issue with Bernie and Felix is that they could've been on a banner for timeskip 3H with other 3H characters. This is CYL and they should be in something different than what they're shown as in-game, yet still epitomizes who they are. I'm mostly just irked that both Felix and Bernie are put into generic class outfits that anyone can go into rather than something original and new. Even though these characters are pretty much the staple units for those classes, we don't really need that for CYL. Celebrate the character more. We basically got 2 day shipping timeskip Bernie, instead of Brave Bernie. CYL is seemingly a way, especially for 3H, to get characters in sooner, rather than a celebration for a character. CYL4 is the best example of that. The main thing I like about Bernie though is the fact they made her a blue bow unit with close counter since she has an inclination towards lances as well as bows, due to both weapons having the furthest reach, keeping the enemy away. Not to mention it being a Brave weapon to reference her crest. These are definitely things you can just put into timeskip version though, but it's still nice they included so much, at least into the gameplay design for her.
This year's results should show the feh community that we need to start prioritizing voting for FE characters that arent in FEH yet over our favorites (characters that are already in the game). There wont really be room for disappointment if its a characters first appearance in the game...
the disappointment is in voting in characters that aren't already in that you don't like\care about. which for me is all characters that are not in, unless I'm forgetting someone.
I don't think that's going to change anything, Lysithea won CYL4 when she wasn't yet in the game, she was included shortly after the vote, and she still ended up like Felix and Bernadetta with the last class they can be promote in the game. With Lysithea there wasn't as much complaint because It was her first alt.
@@-FFFridge That's fair, but if you're in that situation I'd recommend broadening your FE horizons meaning play some FE games that you haven't played before. If you have played all of them, maybe give it another playthrough and try using characters you haven't used before. Part of what makes this franchise so amazing is the sheer amount of characters personalities and back stories in every title. Those who have only played one or a few games might not appreciate near as many characters as someone who has played most or all of the games.

CYL outfits and weapons haven't been creative since CYL 3, ever since 2020 it has always been the safest choice, the most bold thing in the past 4 years has been Byleth, which isn't even that outlandish
Literally the only creative thing in CYL 3 was Camilla. Alm got a modernized version of his Gaiden look, Eliwood had his outfit from his ending in FE7, and Micaiah was her Light Priestess promotion (which led to the absolute banger that is her Legendary design). For CYL 1, I guess you could go for Lyn, since prior to that, we had almost nothing on what her father was like. And Veronica in CYL 2 doesn’t really count since she’s an OC.
I know people are gonna disagree with me but i think Grima would have been better than the same outfit as the last brave Robin. Maybe some sort of "purified" Grima? idk anything is better than this
I didn't mind if it's basically the same. Technically they're the same. Just with different genders. At least they have different weapons and some different skills here.
Outside of CYL1, I haven't really been invested too much in which characters won. Sigurd is basically the only thing left that I would want and I'm already satisfied enough with what they did for Brave Seliph that I don't particularly care either way.

I think yall expectations be way to high to cyl. Ike, roy, hector, ephraim, seliph, marth all got outfits based on a relative or ancestors. 3h cyl just got their times kips and tiki is literally just wearing her young clothes. Erika is just cosplaying ephraim. Cyl has never really been creative in terms of art design. I personally expected every choice they made besides Felix I thought they would dress him as his father.
My jaw dropped when I saw F!Robin wearing the same outfit as M!Robin. I can get utilizing the same theme for both avatars, but wasn't expecting the exact same outfit. Though somehow I doubt M!Byleth and M!Corrin will wear the same outfit as their female counterparts if they were to win lol.
But the good thing about Robin getting the same outfit as her male version is that now there's the possibility of M!Byleth wearing the Sothis costume like F!Byleth and I think that would be pretty great xD
That does exist in 3h tho...that's where femleth got hers in the first place, it was a dlc outfit and they both had it, and since the outfit was made for a woman it looks better on her then guyleth his is erm...quite ugly ngl (bc they hate guyleth bc he doesn't have tits)
Robin was a slap in the face tbh! I definitely would’ve been happier with a Validar inspired fit for her. Okay with all of the other units.. I guess lol.
I’m gonna be a bit of a contrarian here, so please don’t flame me guys, but I actually feel differently about the art than most people do. As a (barely) artist, I can see some of the perspective behind the choices for a couple of them: 1. Brave Alfonse. I see his art poses mimicking Gustav as more of an homage than just straight up ripping off the poses, Niji Hayashi is a very competent artist and doesn’t have a track record of being lazy. And I can’t see Alfonse dressing up as Bruno because as close as they are, Gustav is Alfonse’s DAD, and Alfonse is straight up next in line to be King of Askr. Wouldn’t make much sense to dress him in Bruno’s garb. 2. F!Robin. I hate to agree with it, but on a previous video, someone asked what we were expecting by voting for the literal same character as last year but girl. I mean, the Robins are the only avatars whose outfits are both exactly the same without the male/female alterations they started doing later on. Also I don’t see Robin dressing as Morgan as a good idea when Morgan is… dressed EXACTLY like his mom from head to toe. Literally no difference. Levin sword disappointment is valid though. 3. I DO understand the frustration for Felix, it may have been nicer if he was dressed like Rodrigue, though I guess that would mean he’d have to switch movement classes with Alfonse. But it’s no different than the 3H CYL where the lords and Lysithea were dressed as their respective promoted classes. This is just continuing the trend. Is it a GOOD trend? No. But it’s been this way for a while. 4. Bernie… yeah I got nothing for this one, I’m kinda neutral on Bernie so I don’t really know what else they could do. Overall, I don’t know why people were acting like these design choices are any weirder or different from previous years.
Well this is the first time we've had a complete repeat outfit of a character from last year. If the argument is that both Robin's are the same person and always wear the same outfits, all they had to do was choose a different class for her I guess. Somebody mentioned Dark Flier Robin as an option and I like the idea. We got Dark Flier F!Morgan and I think it'd be cool and different. There aren't any flying tome Robins in the game

People didn't really care as much since it was hot off the heels of 3H and it was the first CYL to include them. CYL4 was basically the peak of FEH popularity
Maybe they don't like the winners either. Other gachas don't limit the characters available when making anniversary alts. They should just make anniversary versions of fan favorites like other games do.
I honestly don’t know what people expected when they voted, specifically for Alfonse and F! Robin. I mean yeah IS could have taken Alfonse in a couple different ways, could have gotten an outfit inspired by Lif but Gustav made sense. Characters taking after their parents is literally nothing new. As for Robin, totally understand the levin sword thing but it’d be foolish to think that Felix wouldn’t take the sword slot in the summon pool. He loves his swords, I’d imagine he sleeps next to his sword 😂 As for the outfit, when we got brave female Byleth and female Corrin, I’d imagine that if we got the male versions instead or in the future, it’d be the exact same outfit too. I figured the moment IS revealed them. But hey you got to admit, F! Robin wears it better 👌nice
I honestly don't mind this at all because what did people vote for if not those characters as they are in their games? Maybe Dark Flier Robin wouldn't be the worst, but that would just feel tacked on and not particularly in character or feel unique to her. I'm personally glad Brave Female Robin is a variation on a theme as opposed to a totally unique unit. Same goes for the others really.
I'm disappointed they gave F!Robin the same outfit as M!Robin, but it does look nice, so I'm willing to took past it a bit. However, and I have said this on other FEH channels, I believe F!Robin sets the precedent for what IS will do for avatars and their counterparts. If this is truly the case, this revelation bodes very poorly for M!Byleth as the Sothis regalia looks horrendous on him. Which saddens me greatly because I've been supporting him since cyl 5. Though I can only imagine the outrage that would ensue if both M and F Shez or Alear were to win the same year and have the same outfit. That would be something else.
I mean, it's really lazy, but at least it's finally a Female Robin alt that has zero connection or references to Grima. Seriously, her last alt that had nothing to do with Grima was the summer version at the very beginning of the game. Don't know why IS was obsessed with slapping Grima on her. Also hey, it's leagues better then Brave Tiki. That one was a massive slap in the face.
I find it hilarious and trolly for IS to give Felix levin sword instead of Robin when they had the chance to do so twice. I’m overall happy with brave Felix mostly because I’m partial to samurai designs like the mortal savant, and I love Felix as a character. I wouldn’t have liked if they made him based on Rodrigue considering his extreme hatred towards him. If they based him on Dimitri it would’ve been a little better as it could show Felix’s character growth of being more honest and how despite him hating the boar part of Dimitri, he still looks up to the other Dimitri who was his childhood friend. But all in all brave Felix is the only W for me, the others seem pretty uninspired, and I think Felix is mostly catching flack for stealing levin sword from Robin.
I'm more upset with Bernadetta coming with The Inexhaustible. From Three Houses, that weapon has always been more associated with Leonie, even _if_ Bernadetta has a matching crest. I don't like Leonie, but it still feels like she got robbed here Felix had a few different options for swords though. There's the Sword of Zoltan he gets from his Dimitri support, and the Sword of Moralta owned by Rodrigue, which is associated with the Crest of Fraldarius. Levin Sword is a little bit of an odd choice, but I also don't like Robin, so I don't care that much

I swear this is brave adult Tiki all over again. Feh fans are never happy when it comes to the art of the brave alts. I, just like with adult Tiki, personally like female Robin's brave alt.
Ngl this CYL I feel like was probably one of the most bland in terms of outfit variety from the moment the winners were announced. Female Robin (and if Male Byleth wins the next one) were kinda destined to be given copy outfits. And for the 3H characters because Bernie and Felix had no real unique class, it makes sense that they’d just give them master classes that would fit their characters/proficiencies in 3H. All this means is that we gotta mass vote for Arden and Black Knight, they’re strong and they’re tough.
At first when I saw alfonse, I thought he looked a little older at first, and I thought it was gonna be like, he's lif or inspired by lif and he's in the timeline where he won and is alive. Something like that
Do Daggers even exist to IS? Already 8x CYL events, and still no Brave hero who wields a dagger. I knew it was going to be disappointing, CYL has been disappointing ever since CYL4. IS has no creativity anymore, but they don't have to put any effort in, as people continue to spend money on the game, no matter what. Felix and Bernadetta have the best artwork, but their classes are predictable, safe and rather boring. Bernie getting another blue bow cavalry alt, and Felix being a Sword unit was expected, and to make it more insulting, IS decided to give him the Levin Sword. The only hero I was excited for, was Female Robin, and IS managed to f*ck it up. And Alfonse, as expected, became Gustav, but come on!? He looks exactly like his father, IS just cut his head off and sticked it on Gustav's body! Seriously, how difficult is it for IS to make Female Robin a sword unit, and give her Levin Sword? They could've made Felix a colorless tome unit, and they could've and should've given Bernie a lance. With Alfonse I'm fine that he wields an axe, but his artwork could've been more impressive.
I'm generally very happy with most of the designs that we got in game. I was surprised to see F!Robin wearing the same outfit drawn by the same artist but at least the art looks good and the weapon is different enough to stand out for me. Plus the design itself looked good last year IS most likely wanted to use it again for this year because why not if it's that good don't try too hard with an outfit people might not even like? (I can't speak for them though it's just a theory) Brave Felix is probably the only one with the design I'm not personally a fan of because I just don't like the Mortal Savant outfit in general. It's too big, and the several swords come off as overdesigned to me. I do have some positives though, I like that his symbol on his chest is based on his crest, I like that he gets the levin sword which would only be because they wanted him to be somewhat unique since he also has magic in his arsenal and a lightning sword probably would have been the best way to translate that into the game; And even though I don't like the design of Felix, the art drawn more than makes up for it because it just looks that good there's no way I'm going to deny that. Bernadetta's design actually being a mix between her timeskip outfit and a bow knight's armor is such a really creative way to make a character isntead of choosing just one, and I'm a really big fan of how she looks because of that. (I'm aware that Felix also got that treatment but I like it more on Bernadetta) Alfonse probably has the best looking art for me though because man does the poetry from his father stand out, it makes sense that the future king of Askr would wear the robes of his late father in honor of him. (Yes he has his boyfriend which at least you gave an example where as most people don't) but you know what they say, daddy comes first (no one says that I'm just joking XD) But yeah overall I really enjoy the designs for this year's CYL

It's one of the last days of the vacation, internet's out, raining so no beach time, so basically spent a fair bit of today just settling in with our CYL designs. 🐀 So Female Robin's. I don't know how much they would have strayed from Male's design, so just exchanging the blade for a tome was about expected. Not the most effort, but expected. With Felix, I did unintentionally guessed something like this would happened, where he'd have the Levin Sword instead. With how IS treated Tiki, i think we all kinda felt it. Mortal Servant Felix over father-inspired is definitely a relief. I think if they did go the Lance Cavarly, then Felix would have been more fodder bait than Alfonse here. Speaking of the future (present?) king, Alfonse is disappointing just Gustav inspired. I feel like with how much an influence Lif had during Book 3, we could have something inspired there. Maybe we'll get a clip of him mentioning him at least. I just don't feel as powerfully connected to him at this time, just gonna admit he fits the look he's going for. Bernie, Bernadetta, my beloved Bear! Again, could have been father-inspired/related, thankful it's not. Only thing I would change is maybe her bow color, since Spring Bernie is also Blue. Either way, love her look, cute and precious as always, and hoping for many merges this banner. Overall, not the most-inspired, but definitely a "in line of satisfactory" for now.
Father inspired Bernadetta would be a little awkward I think... didn't her father mistreat her or something? I vaguely recall that being the reason she locks herself up in her room all the time

LOOK, HIS POSE IS LIKE HIS DAD. IT'S LIKE HE IS HIS GUSTAV. The only one that feels bad to me is brave Robin being a copy-paste of brave Robin. At least they didn't make her another brave sword Robin, though, which would have been worse if they gave her levin sword. So, you can see it as a consolation prize that they gave it to Felix instead (rather than no one).
I don’t think the nod at alfonse father was meant to be lazy, I think it makes sense in terms of how most stories go about inheriting the mantle/weapon, etc. My biggest issue with Feh however is every CYL people just vote characters with like 7+ alts who don’t need it. I do think the Robin copy paste is dumb and lazy but are we really surprised at this point
Eh, my favorite character won CYL and Sigurd wasn't voted in, so I had no stake in this, but here are my thoughts: This is the super rare instance where I want Attuned Robin with Levin sword. I don't care which one, just one Robin with Levin sword Felix and Bernie look nice, but my first experience with Fire Emblem was Awakening, so I don't really care about them. Alfonse is gorgeous, but holy crap the idea of Kiran!Alfonse was a missed opportunity 😭
The old Choose Your Legends always did something really different with the characters. Yeah the first CYL had characters wear their parents clothes but still had differences with their original counterpart. Brave Roy is a cavalry unit which was never seen before at the time, Brave Ike was an axe unit which is very unique at the time and this applies to Brave Lucina wielding a lance and Brave Lyn being a cavalry archer. Even when the units were not completely unique like Brave Celica as Fallen Celica was also a sword infantry unit, her inspiration was amazing as a reference to her Fire Emblem Gaiden outfit. But nowadays the CYL units have very little unique inspiration. Like why is Felix just his promoted class when he could have an outfit based on Rodrigue?
Yeah the designs aren't great to me, I didn't like 3h cyl for the same reason I don't like Felix and Bern here and Robin just recycling is lame. Alfonso is cool tho, even if he has the same art. Marianne really do be winning as a unique looking 3h cyl winner (even if it's just the dance outfit)
I think what’s disappointing too is that not only did Felix take the Robin’s weapon… But he has a sword associated with his household in Three Houses! That would have been great to see him use! There was no reason for him to have a Levin Sword! And most of the annoyance I’ve seen with Bernie is that she has the Inexhaustible (I think I spelled that right…?)… Which only has her Crest as a tie to it, when the bow has a much stronger tie to Leonie! As it’s Leonie that goes through the trial to get it! So I’ve heard some people say it’s a slap in the face to Leonie fans.
At this point… what do you expect? Of now 36 heroes, at most 6 lacked a clear connection to something. Alm and Celica, old designs. Eirika to Ephraim. Lucina and Chrom, Great Lords. There can be complaints, but look back to the past and see it’s already been bad from the start.
The balls on IS, making robin a tome again and then giving Felix the levin sword instead! Well i expected Alfonse to resemble something from his father but still kinda disapointing but overall he gets a new thing that turns him into a great knight with that defense buff, i kind of expected Bernedetta to be a bow knight but still, what probably really pissed off the fans was robin being another tome and felix getting levin sword instead.
I think concept-wise, CYL units have clear paths IS likes to go and there's not much reason to expect things to go much away from it. The execution tho is important, at least for me, and I think they delivered well in that regard.
All though this wont change anything good vid. Hold FEH accountable for their foolery. I dont play this game anymore and I am glad I dont. However, I will be watching vids like these and any new reveals with the usual fun themes like fallen heroes, CYL and seasonals.
Female Robin wears the outfit better than Male Robin. And Niji Hayashi's Brave Alfonse art is stunning. (Also something tells me Alfonse is dressed up like his father because IS already has a different outfit for his Legendary)
And what's the problem with Alfonse's art being similar to his father's art? That feels like a cute homage to Kozaki's style, and it shows that Alfonse was inspired by his father.
I'm only bothered by the outfit in that it will make the Robins look unnecessarily similar on the battlefield. I think it's a cool look for either, but you should know at a glance what the other team is rocking.
I don't mind the designs. But that's mostly because I've been away from feh for a good while. But I do understand fans being upset. Even i said "this looks like the other Robin though". I did end up getting Male CYL Robin, so I'll probably go for Bernadetta
My main problem with 3H units being master classes is that it removes so much potential cool ideas. Most 3H characters have known relations to their family, which we very often see (at least since 3 Hopes). They also have good connections among the cast. CYL has often been about going that route where they would don something different connecting to that other person or element that's dear to them. Marianne was pretty great ngl, with Maurice tied in there, but the rest is generally pretty bland when there's so much you could do.
I think IS is already doing it on purpose at this point, they don't care if the game closes tomorrow or lasts another 5 years, they are simply doing what they want and seeing how much more the community can endure and money this can make them before they are done breaking it completely.

I don't really care for CYL because usually, the winners are so predictable and are characters I don't really like, but man, this one seems particularly boring to me.
Levin sword Felix was pretty niche for fe3h, maybe it was better in 3 hopes but I didn't play that one If he had gotten the sword of Zoltan from his Dimitri support that would have been a chef's kiss moment
I feel like I'm in the minority here when I say I actually really liked the art direction with all of the heroes' art. They may not have been the most creative I'll admit but they fit really well. I find it really cute that F!Robin shares the same outfit as last years M!Robin, its a neat reference (albeit yes, unoriginal) and it gave me a huge smile when I saw it was the same one. Felix's and Bernie's were just their promoted class outfits but that wasn't added to the game yet so I have no gripes with it. And I love that Alfonse wears Gustav's clothes, it really shows that he is ready to take the mantle of Askr's new king. So yes they may have all been the obvious choice and quite unoriginal in the designs, but they all fit really well and they gave me a huge smile when I saw their art in the trailer (Or maybe I'm just biased cause I'm a fan of all of these characters lol)
Not sure where you go on reddit but I've seen plenty of people not care in voicing themselves there. Also feels a bit unfair to give Alfonse shit for dressing like his dad and having similar poses but then praising ike like he isn't doing the exact same thing among other braves.

This would be so cool especially if you stylized the outfit a bit to look more menacing. Celebrating awakening by referencing its mechanics and a design that leans into a dark Robin which is not Robin possessed by Grima AGAIN.
This is what I was betting on before the reveal... and is probably what we would have gotten had she won last year instead of Gullvieg.
Unfortunately, in hindsight, this is basically now Gullvieg's stick. So we got an improved mage version of Brave Male Robin and Young Male Robin instead.
I was thinking she'd be a dark flier, too. It's one of the few things she can do that her male counterpart can't.

It's no where near more inspired. It's the same artist, same outfit, and basically the same character. Literally no design elements were added between the two other than the different head and weapon. It's by far worse. Tiki's is a shame definitely, but this is just horribly uncreative.

17:06 while it wasn't a Hero's Relic like the Aegis Shield, there was a sacred weapon linked to the Crest of Fraldarius in the 'Sword of Moralta' in the same vein as The Inexhaustible (which is doubly strange that thats what they gave Brave Bernadetta but not Brave Felix)
They could also have used the Sword of Zoltan. Yeah the Zoltan weapons aren't unique, but the game just straight up gives him one by doing his Support conversation with Dimitri. So it's tied closely enough to him specifically that they could have used it.
I was thinking that, but considering they were going for the Mortal Savant element, I think the Levin Sword was a good way to combine both sword and reason in Heroes.

I don't understand why people complain about B!Alfonse. I mean this not like it's the first time they do that. They do it every time they get an opportunity (Roy, Ike, Gullveig, Byleth, etc). Same for the two 3H but with promoted class. The outfits of the brave heroes have never been original.
You're honestly not wrong about the brave alts not being original. The only brave alt that is original is probably brave Eirika, and maybe even that can be considered unoriginal.
Its because those ones actually did something unique despite dressing up as someone else. Roy & Ike hadn't gotten an alt until that point, Gulling wasn't playable yet, & Qwertina has that outfit in 3 houses.

The only one I would say is original is Brave Veronica. Hers is not based on anything, at least not that I'm aware of.

I didnt get the idea that PM1 was calling them out. Rather he's literally just showing the two artwork back to back. His design is based off of Gustav and you could tell his first pose was similar to his as well on purpose.

Idk, out of all the main Fire Emblem artists, I feel like Kita’s art usually falls for me. Like non tellius, just look at Hector and Marth. For tellius, it still looks really off imo like the many Ikes. I feel like I’m also slowly finding myself go towards other artists like Niji Hayashi and Yoshiku
I'm not bothered at all, both Robins serve as Chrom's counselor in both parallel universes, they have the same role, but IS did give them different weapons and kits.
Having a unit resemble their parent as a brave came as early as Brave Roy and Brave Ike, the 1st CYL, and the pose mimicry is a nod to that, you can also look at Ayra and Larcei doing that, is a sign that they learned their parent fighting style.
The 3houses braves are their promoted versions, just like Brave Lysethia. The other option to get a timeskipped student is their Warriors version. Yea I prefer Robin to have the levin, and Felix do have his own pref weapon in 3H, but I do not mind it.
We already have the units have different and wacky weapons in seasonal alts, freaking Winter Bernie builds a house around her and summons a blizzard.

Personally, I'm very satisfied with how they handled Alfonse, art and skill wise, being now a kingly version of himself, it's not rare for princes to wear their father's clothes once they become kings in fantasy stories. The rest, well, I really don't care much about them overall.

the previous 7 CYLs made it clear that the units would be getting alternate or costumes in direct relation to the character's own personal history, boring or not. I dont see how there could be any illusion we could be getting something different. Shrug
Honestly, i didn’t really care for either M/F Robin, especially for CYL, but the fact that Robin fans put in so much effort, campaigning, and time towards such a popular character to just get shafted for it is INSANE. You guys deserved better (still love felix weapon/art though lol)
Felix and Bernie are the most creative ones as far as artwork goes. I mean IS established with CYL 4 that the Brave versions of Three Houses would be how they brought the time skip versions of the characters into the game. They also established that the characters would be in Master Classes, outside of the Lords who had unique classes. So, as long as Felix and Bernie looked like a Mortal Savant and Bow Knight class respectively the artist could make adjustments; for example Felix's strap holding the swords on his back has his Crest on it, and instead of having the game's almost black armor Bernie has this purple armor that is brighter.
Byleth and Gatekeeper were special cases. Since Byleth's "Enlightened One" class was used for her Legendary alt so IS made her Sothis but "bigger," and Gatekeeper wasn't even a recruitable character so they decided to just summon the Gate with him.
EDIT: Forgot to mention Marianne as a Dancer, i'm sorry about that. While Dancer isn't a Master Class it is still a very good combat support role she naturally excels at in-game. Since her likely Master Class would be Gremory if you just focus on reason and faith IS didn't want do that since Lysthia was also a Gremory. While that is a weird thing to say with the current Robin situation IS does have the excuse of Marianne and Lysthia being different characters instead of them being genderswapped versions of one character.
Also, there is a VERY SMALL detail to separate the two Robins. I noticed that Male Robin had a neckerchief around his collar while Female Robin has a Bow Tie around her collar. I just thought that was funny.
To me, the only problem with Bernie is that the Bow Knight outfit is very bland, so she doesn,t stand out as a Brave hero. She makes me think more of an exalt knight Chrom look. Plus, eventually, Brave alts will have to recoup classes with how many master classes vs characters there are. I think using Bernie's dad as inspiration would've been the right call for her, as a way to have overcome her trauma and taken on her responsibilities after the war, gaining confidence in herself, as an interesting storytelling detail for her. Then again, she would be the primary bow knight in 3H so it does make sense to use her. Maybe a mix of both could've been good.
I am intrigued at what they would do if Dorothea was chosen though. Gremory and Dancer are already taken, so maybe they,d make her a singer instead and give her Mittelfrank garb? That would be cool.
TBH, I’m actually ok with F.Robin wearing the same attire as M.Robin. Because the outfit itself looks good. Though, F.Robin is wearing it a bit better.

My issue with Bernie and Felix is that they could've been on a banner for timeskip 3H with other 3H characters. This is CYL and they should be in something different than what they're shown as in-game, yet still epitomizes who they are. I'm mostly just irked that both Felix and Bernie are put into generic class outfits that anyone can go into rather than something original and new. Even though these characters are pretty much the staple units for those classes, we don't really need that for CYL. Celebrate the character more. We basically got 2 day shipping timeskip Bernie, instead of Brave Bernie. CYL is seemingly a way, especially for 3H, to get characters in sooner, rather than a celebration for a character. CYL4 is the best example of that.
The main thing I like about Bernie though is the fact they made her a blue bow unit with close counter since she has an inclination towards lances as well as bows, due to both weapons having the furthest reach, keeping the enemy away. Not to mention it being a Brave weapon to reference her crest. These are definitely things you can just put into timeskip version though, but it's still nice they included so much, at least into the gameplay design for her.
This year's results should show the feh community that we need to start prioritizing voting for FE characters that arent in FEH yet over our favorites (characters that are already in the game). There wont really be room for disappointment if its a characters first appearance in the game...
the disappointment is in voting in characters that aren't already in that you don't like\care about. which for me is all characters that are not in, unless I'm forgetting someone.
I don't think that's going to change anything, Lysithea won CYL4 when she wasn't yet in the game, she was included shortly after the vote, and she still ended up like Felix and Bernadetta with the last class they can be promote in the game. With Lysithea there wasn't as much complaint because It was her first alt.
@@-FFFridge That's fair, but if you're in that situation I'd recommend broadening your FE horizons meaning play some FE games that you haven't played before. If you have played all of them, maybe give it another playthrough and try using characters you haven't used before. Part of what makes this franchise so amazing is the sheer amount of characters personalities and back stories in every title. Those who have only played one or a few games might not appreciate near as many characters as someone who has played most or all of the games.

CYL outfits and weapons haven't been creative since CYL 3, ever since 2020 it has always been the safest choice, the most bold thing in the past 4 years has been Byleth, which isn't even that outlandish
Literally the only creative thing in CYL 3 was Camilla. Alm got a modernized version of his Gaiden look, Eliwood had his outfit from his ending in FE7, and Micaiah was her Light Priestess promotion (which led to the absolute banger that is her Legendary design). For CYL 1, I guess you could go for Lyn, since prior to that, we had almost nothing on what her father was like. And Veronica in CYL 2 doesn’t really count since she’s an OC.

Outside of CYL1, I haven't really been invested too much in which characters won. Sigurd is basically the only thing left that I would want and I'm already satisfied enough with what they did for Brave Seliph that I don't particularly care either way.

I think yall expectations be way to high to cyl. Ike, roy, hector, ephraim, seliph, marth all got outfits based on a relative or ancestors. 3h cyl just got their times kips and tiki is literally just wearing her young clothes. Erika is just cosplaying ephraim. Cyl has never really been creative in terms of art design. I personally expected every choice they made besides Felix I thought they would dress him as his father.

I’m gonna be a bit of a contrarian here, so please don’t flame me guys, but I actually feel differently about the art than most people do. As a (barely) artist, I can see some of the perspective behind the choices for a couple of them:
1. Brave Alfonse. I see his art poses mimicking Gustav as more of an homage than just straight up ripping off the poses, Niji Hayashi is a very competent artist and doesn’t have a track record of being lazy. And I can’t see Alfonse dressing up as Bruno because as close as they are, Gustav is Alfonse’s DAD, and Alfonse is straight up next in line to be King of Askr. Wouldn’t make much sense to dress him in Bruno’s garb.
2. F!Robin. I hate to agree with it, but on a previous video, someone asked what we were expecting by voting for the literal same character as last year but girl. I mean, the Robins are the only avatars whose outfits are both exactly the same without the male/female alterations they started doing later on. Also I don’t see Robin dressing as Morgan as a good idea when Morgan is… dressed EXACTLY like his mom from head to toe. Literally no difference. Levin sword disappointment is valid though.
3. I DO understand the frustration for Felix, it may have been nicer if he was dressed like Rodrigue, though I guess that would mean he’d have to switch movement classes with Alfonse. But it’s no different than the 3H CYL where the lords and Lysithea were dressed as their respective promoted classes. This is just continuing the trend. Is it a GOOD trend? No. But it’s been this way for a while.
4. Bernie… yeah I got nothing for this one, I’m kinda neutral on Bernie so I don’t really know what else they could do.
Overall, I don’t know why people were acting like these design choices are any weirder or different from previous years.
Well this is the first time we've had a complete repeat outfit of a character from last year. If the argument is that both Robin's are the same person and always wear the same outfits, all they had to do was choose a different class for her I guess. Somebody mentioned Dark Flier Robin as an option and I like the idea. We got Dark Flier F!Morgan and I think it'd be cool and different. There aren't any flying tome Robins in the game

I think it was CYL 4 that people were more up and arms about the outfits.
People didn't really care as much since it was hot off the heels of 3H and it was the first CYL to include them.

Maybe they don't like the winners either. Other gachas don't limit the characters available when making anniversary alts. They should just make anniversary versions of fan favorites like other games do.

As for Robin, totally understand the levin sword thing but it’d be foolish to think that Felix wouldn’t take the sword slot in the summon pool. He loves his swords, I’d imagine he sleeps next to his sword 😂
As for the outfit, when we got brave female Byleth and female Corrin, I’d imagine that if we got the male versions instead or in the future, it’d be the exact same outfit too. I figured the moment IS revealed them. But hey you got to admit, F! Robin wears it better 👌nice

Maybe Dark Flier Robin wouldn't be the worst, but that would just feel tacked on and not particularly in character or feel unique to her. I'm personally glad Brave Female Robin is a variation on a theme as opposed to a totally unique unit.

I'm disappointed they gave F!Robin the same outfit as M!Robin, but it does look nice, so I'm willing to took past it a bit.
However, and I have said this on other FEH channels, I believe F!Robin sets the precedent for what IS will do for avatars and their counterparts. If this is truly the case, this revelation bodes very poorly for M!Byleth as the Sothis regalia looks horrendous on him. Which saddens me greatly because I've been supporting him since cyl 5.
Though I can only imagine the outrage that would ensue if both M and F Shez or Alear were to win the same year and have the same outfit. That would be something else.
There's precedence at least for Female Robin having the same attire as Male Robin (Grima version, Resplendant)
I mean, it's really lazy, but at least it's finally a Female Robin alt that has zero connection or references to Grima. Seriously, her last alt that had nothing to do with Grima was the summer version at the very beginning of the game. Don't know why IS was obsessed with slapping Grima on her. Also hey, it's leagues better then Brave Tiki. That one was a massive slap in the face.
I find it hilarious and trolly for IS to give Felix levin sword instead of Robin when they had the chance to do so twice. I’m overall happy with brave Felix mostly because I’m partial to samurai designs like the mortal savant, and I love Felix as a character. I wouldn’t have liked if they made him based on Rodrigue considering his extreme hatred towards him. If they based him on Dimitri it would’ve been a little better as it could show Felix’s character growth of being more honest and how despite him hating the boar part of Dimitri, he still looks up to the other Dimitri who was his childhood friend. But all in all brave Felix is the only W for me, the others seem pretty uninspired, and I think Felix is mostly catching flack for stealing levin sword from Robin.
I'm more upset with Bernadetta coming with The Inexhaustible. From Three Houses, that weapon has always been more associated with Leonie, even _if_ Bernadetta has a matching crest. I don't like Leonie, but it still feels like she got robbed here
Felix had a few different options for swords though. There's the Sword of Zoltan he gets from his Dimitri support, and the Sword of Moralta owned by Rodrigue, which is associated with the Crest of Fraldarius. Levin Sword is a little bit of an odd choice, but I also don't like Robin, so I don't care that much

Ngl this CYL I feel like was probably one of the most bland in terms of outfit variety from the moment the winners were announced.
Female Robin (and if Male Byleth wins the next one) were kinda destined to be given copy outfits. And for the 3H characters because Bernie and Felix had no real unique class, it makes sense that they’d just give them master classes that would fit their characters/proficiencies in 3H.
All this means is that we gotta mass vote for Arden and Black Knight, they’re strong and they’re tough.
At first when I saw alfonse, I thought he looked a little older at first, and I thought it was gonna be like, he's lif or inspired by lif and he's in the timeline where he won and is alive. Something like that
Do Daggers even exist to IS? Already 8x CYL events, and still no Brave hero who wields a dagger. I knew it was going to be disappointing, CYL has been disappointing ever since CYL4. IS has no creativity anymore, but they don't have to put any effort in, as people continue to spend money on the game, no matter what. Felix and Bernadetta have the best artwork, but their classes are predictable, safe and rather boring. Bernie getting another blue bow cavalry alt, and Felix being a Sword unit was expected, and to make it more insulting, IS decided to give him the Levin Sword. The only hero I was excited for, was Female Robin, and IS managed to f*ck it up. And Alfonse, as expected, became Gustav, but come on!? He looks exactly like his father, IS just cut his head off and sticked it on Gustav's body! Seriously, how difficult is it for IS to make Female Robin a sword unit, and give her Levin Sword? They could've made Felix a colorless tome unit, and they could've and should've given Bernie a lance. With Alfonse I'm fine that he wields an axe, but his artwork could've been more impressive.
I'm generally very happy with most of the designs that we got in game. I was surprised to see F!Robin wearing the same outfit drawn by the same artist but at least the art looks good and the weapon is different enough to stand out for me. Plus the design itself looked good last year IS most likely wanted to use it again for this year because why not if it's that good don't try too hard with an outfit people might not even like? (I can't speak for them though it's just a theory)
Brave Felix is probably the only one with the design I'm not personally a fan of because I just don't like the Mortal Savant outfit in general. It's too big, and the several swords come off as overdesigned to me. I do have some positives though, I like that his symbol on his chest is based on his crest, I like that he gets the levin sword which would only be because they wanted him to be somewhat unique since he also has magic in his arsenal and a lightning sword probably would have been the best way to translate that into the game; And even though I don't like the design of Felix, the art drawn more than makes up for it because it just looks that good there's no way I'm going to deny that.
Bernadetta's design actually being a mix between her timeskip outfit and a bow knight's armor is such a really creative way to make a character isntead of choosing just one, and I'm a really big fan of how she looks because of that. (I'm aware that Felix also got that treatment but I like it more on Bernadetta)
Alfonse probably has the best looking art for me though because man does the poetry from his father stand out, it makes sense that the future king of Askr would wear the robes of his late father in honor of him. (Yes he has his boyfriend which at least you gave an example where as most people don't) but you know what they say, daddy comes first (no one says that I'm just joking XD)
But yeah overall I really enjoy the designs for this year's CYL
Hey Tacho, comment section! It's one of the last days of the vacation, internet's out, raining so no beach time, so basically spent a fair bit of today just settling in with our CYL designs. 🐀
So Female Robin's. I don't know how much they would have strayed from Male's design, so just exchanging the blade for a tome was about expected. Not the most effort, but expected.
With Felix, I did unintentionally guessed something like this would happened, where he'd have the Levin Sword instead. With how IS treated Tiki, i think we all kinda felt it. Mortal Servant Felix over father-inspired is definitely a relief. I think if they did go the Lance Cavarly, then Felix would have been more fodder bait than Alfonse here.
Speaking of the future (present?) king, Alfonse is disappointing just Gustav inspired. I feel like with how much an influence Lif had during Book 3, we could have something inspired there. Maybe we'll get a clip of him mentioning him at least. I just don't feel as powerfully connected to him at this time, just gonna admit he fits the look he's going for.
Bernie, Bernadetta, my beloved Bear! Again, could have been father-inspired/related, thankful it's not. Only thing I would change is maybe her bow color, since Spring Bernie is also Blue. Either way, love her look, cute and precious as always, and hoping for many merges this banner.
Overall, not the most-inspired, but definitely a "in line of satisfactory" for now.

I still had my hopes of seeing alfonse as an armor mage, referencing the emperor class. But honestly I'm cool with him as a great knight

I feel like there were gonna be complaints no matter what they did. I don't really care for Felix or Bernie, but their art looks good to me. Alfonse being in his Dad's outfit was inevitable, and I'm totally happy with that, but I kinda wish they didn't give him the exact same poses. HE'S LIKE HIS DAD. GET IT? IT'S HIS DAD'S OUTFIT. LOOK, HIS POSE IS LIKE HIS DAD. IT'S LIKE HE IS HIS GUSTAV.
The only one that feels bad to me is brave Robin being a copy-paste of brave Robin. At least they didn't make her another brave sword Robin, though, which would have been worse if they gave her levin sword. So, you can see it as a consolation prize that they gave it to Felix instead (rather than no one).
They really said: “you will have your Levin sword don’t worry”
I don’t think the nod at alfonse father was meant to be lazy, I think it makes sense in terms of how most stories go about inheriting the mantle/weapon, etc.
My biggest issue with Feh however is every CYL people just vote characters with like 7+ alts who don’t need it. I do think the Robin copy paste is dumb and lazy but are we really surprised at this point

Eh, my favorite character won CYL and Sigurd wasn't voted in, so I had no stake in this, but here are my thoughts:
This is the super rare instance where I want Attuned Robin with Levin sword. I don't care which one, just one Robin with Levin sword
Felix and Bernie look nice, but my first experience with Fire Emblem was Awakening, so I don't really care about them.
Alfonse is gorgeous, but holy crap the idea of Kiran!Alfonse was a missed opportunity 😭
The old Choose Your Legends always did something really different with the characters. Yeah the first CYL had characters wear their parents clothes but still had differences with their original counterpart. Brave Roy is a cavalry unit which was never seen before at the time, Brave Ike was an axe unit which is very unique at the time and this applies to Brave Lucina wielding a lance and Brave Lyn being a cavalry archer. Even when the units were not completely unique like Brave Celica as Fallen Celica was also a sword infantry unit, her inspiration was amazing as a reference to her Fire Emblem Gaiden outfit. But nowadays the CYL units have very little unique inspiration. Like why is Felix just his promoted class when he could have an outfit based on Rodrigue?
Why does mortal savant have so many swords? Wouldn't that much steel weigh him down?
Yeah the designs aren't great to me, I didn't like 3h cyl for the same reason I don't like Felix and Bern here and Robin just recycling is lame. Alfonso is cool tho, even if he has the same art.

I think what’s disappointing too is that not only did Felix take the Robin’s weapon… But he has a sword associated with his household in Three Houses! That would have been great to see him use! There was no reason for him to have a Levin Sword!
And most of the annoyance I’ve seen with Bernie is that she has the Inexhaustible (I think I spelled that right…?)… Which only has her Crest as a tie to it, when the bow has a much stronger tie to Leonie! As it’s Leonie that goes through the trial to get it! So I’ve heard some people say it’s a slap in the face to Leonie fans.

At this point… what do you expect? Of now 36 heroes, at most 6 lacked a clear connection to something. Alm and Celica, old designs. Eirika to Ephraim. Lucina and Chrom, Great Lords. There can be complaints, but look back to the past and see it’s already been bad from the start.
The balls on IS, making robin a tome again and then giving Felix the levin sword instead! Well i expected Alfonse to resemble something from his father but still kinda disapointing but overall he gets a new thing that turns him into a great knight with that defense buff, i kind of expected Bernedetta to be a bow knight but still, what probably really pissed off the fans was robin being another tome and felix getting levin sword instead.
I think concept-wise, CYL units have clear paths IS likes to go and there's not much reason to expect things to go much away from it. The execution tho is important, at least for me, and I think they delivered well in that regard.

I'm only bothered by the outfit in that it will make the Robins look unnecessarily similar on the battlefield. I think it's a cool look for either, but you should know at a glance what the other team is rocking.
I don't mind the designs. But that's mostly because I've been away from feh for a good while. But I do understand fans being upset. Even i said "this looks like the other Robin though". I did end up getting Male CYL Robin, so I'll probably go for Bernadetta
My main problem with 3H units being master classes is that it removes so much potential cool ideas. Most 3H characters have known relations to their family, which we very often see (at least since 3 Hopes). They also have good connections among the cast. CYL has often been about going that route where they would don something different connecting to that other person or element that's dear to them. Marianne was pretty great ngl, with Maurice tied in there, but the rest is generally pretty bland when there's so much you could do.

I think IS is already doing it on purpose at this point, they don't care if the game closes tomorrow or lasts another 5 years, they are simply doing what they want and seeing how much more the community can endure and money this can make them before they are done breaking it completely.

I actually like the designs, they're really good.
Maybe they didn't want to go the Byleth route and make the female avatar have a skimpier look, so they decided on copy/paste.
I feel like I'm in the minority here when I say I actually really liked the art direction with all of the heroes' art. They may not have been the most creative I'll admit but they fit really well.
I find it really cute that F!Robin shares the same outfit as last years M!Robin, its a neat reference (albeit yes, unoriginal) and it gave me a huge smile when I saw it was the same one.
Felix's and Bernie's were just their promoted class outfits but that wasn't added to the game yet so I have no gripes with it.
And I love that Alfonse wears Gustav's clothes, it really shows that he is ready to take the mantle of Askr's new king.
