first time i tried this it didnt line up correctly with the cut outs. i still managed to sew it all together but it was super messy. tried it again knowing i need to leave space for seem allowance and wow it actually worked out nicely. i would recommend a liner and a hidden pocket in the main opening. ill try that next time. overall it wasnt too bad following the instructions. just go slow and make sure all your pieces align
Yeah they do that, they put their seam allowance at 1/4", where most sewers do 1/2" including me, thats how I was taught; sew in 1/2" seam allowance and then trim or bind edges, so what I would do is add a 1/4" all around the patterns then sew a 1/2 allowance all around.
yes this definitely leaves room for improvement. Lots of slack and wrinkles and pleats to be had. ugh!!! My 1st one was a total mess and very flimsy even though i used canvas. Just dont care for it. Easy enough to execute though.
Made a couple of these now - love them! If you ever remake this video though (or for the next similar pattern), could you use a fabric that has a more obvious "right" & "wrong" side, so it's easier to work out what's going where? Thanks!
I bought the pattern a while ago and finally got around to making the bag this weekend. Love the finished product but I realize now that this video was more promotional than instructional. Super frustrating because the tutorial was not clear, the pattern did not include dimensions (I cut the material with my cricut), and the pattern was missing a piece that wasn’t even noticed until I was already sewing. I purchased two more patterns and hope they’re better! Definitely not recommended for a newbie.
@jeffsgyrl11 that seems to be the norm these days with patterns. The patternmaker leaves out steps, is unclear, complicated, or all of the above, making for a very frustrating experience for the sewist. Thank you for your comment -- I'll pass on this one.
No tengo para descargar podrias pasar las medidas del molde por favor gracias! Alicia de Paraguay te saludo buenisimo tu trabajo me encantaria poder realizarlo
How does the needle not break when you sew over the zipper? And what's your process to create the patterns (do you start on the computer, sketch something onto paper, create prototypes from thinner fabric)? Great quality results and video!
i'd say if u're using metal zipper, stop before the zipper, manually rotate the sewing machine motor slowly and continue to operate normally after u had passed the zipper.
@@kato3000 nylon zippers can be sewn over with ease. the teeth on his zipper are larger than normal. I use #5 zipper tape and i never have a problem. Now, metal zippers are a no no to sew over. You'll break your needle every single time unless you hand crank the wheel when you come to it. I dont like metal zips at all.
Hi, I've just found your channel and It's amazing. A plate carrier for example. I'm concerned how it's posible to DIY that type of gear pieces. I love your Gucci face mask, and chest bag... Someday I'm gonna try to do it, and some pouches too. Thanks!
Hello! I just bought this pattern but it didn't occur to me until watching this video that the inside is unlined. Do you have any sort of tutorial for making a lining?
I’m currently working through how to add a lining myself. I think you would cut an additional piece of lining fabric for each piece except the front zipper panel and maybe a few others. I would sew the lining on at the same time as everything else. When you line up your fabric sandwich on the bottom have: interior lining fabric right side down (facing the table), then outer fabric right side up, then zipper right side facing down. Then just follow his video and sew across the zipper and fold only the outer fabric to top stitch. Hope this helps
Also, in addition to this pattern, you should include more detailed instructions on the lengths of the straps. Just saying about 2 yards doesnt cut it.
looks like he used a yellow canvas. Stiffer/heavier weight materials would work best so that the bag is sturdy and can hold its shape well. You could also use faux leather if you're really going for that traditional fanny pack look.
That's so nice brooo can have some giveaways for free patterns hehe im just a beginner so and i have just subscribed because u have tons of art work and it inspired me a lot, more love for your channel 💙
@@ALump-hq2dd According to other videos Ive watched he says the seam allowance is 1/4". Yes you if you are going to add a seam allowance you add it all around. Now I made one its pretty big and I sewed it with a 3/8" S.A with out adaptations and it came out pretty good, some hiccups, but I think its because I used a #8 zipper instead of a #5 like in the video, also make sure you print it out at 100% to insure proper size.
I'm sure you could serge all edges except for the zipper ends that attach to the gusset. I would never take that through my serger. Also, keep the blades off so that your not cutting any fabric off while doing so. Or serge all edges before putting together. good luck
Hey, really liking this project so far! I do have a question / possible note in case the pattern needs adjusting... At the 4 minute mark when sewing the side zipper panel to the side bottom panel, it looks like your side panel is the same width as the assembled zipper panels + zipper. My side panel (as cut from the pattern) is quite a bit more narrow, so once we account for the width of the zipper being added, my edges don't match up. If it was just a little it wouldn't matter, but it's about 3/8th of an inch too short on either side when compared to the zipper panels/zipper assembly, and a later step has us sew that edge at 1/4 inch, so it's not going to catch all the layers. I'm using the same Singer HD and presser foot featured in this video, and the same size zippers. I've sewn the zippers as you have, close to the edge of the zipper tape. As far as I can tell I've done everything exactly the same, but it looks like I'll have to cut a new slightly wider side panel that more closely matches the width of the combined side zipper panels and zipper. Am I missing something here? Maybe I've made a mistake, but it seems like this side bottom panel piece might just be too small?
Just making this now and I 100% agree with you. I've just sewn in my zipper and the middle an back panels are definitely too small. I have enough extra fabric (and time) to fix it, so I'm cutting new panels that are wider by the width of the zipper. There are a few things like that in this video/pattern. For example the bottom panel that creates the width of the bag is obviously two pieces in the video but the pattern has just one piece there. Those pieces seem a little small, and I'm actually worried it won't quite be long enough... I may cut a longer piece and then shorten it once I know if fits.
I had same issue, I just trimmed off the 3/8", you shouldn't notice that much missing from the width of the bag. So Essentially just trim off whatever is extra so they are the same width before you attach to side panels.
Nice try.

followed the video. gusset doesnt exactly fit the outer layers very well. Im pretty sure its not me thats causing all the pleats and wrinkles. I'm an experienced bag maker. Your binding looks terrible and this could use a lining to make it look better. Just my opinion.
What a waste of time and money. The pattern that’s linked and that I bought is NOT this pattern. There’s no written instruction on how to construct this piece and the pieces in the file are for a different bag entirely. I’m so annoyed dude
The pattern works, it's just doesn't specify size instructions as I made it tonight. Cut side bottom panel on the fold Cut side panel on the fold x2. That should resolve the issue.
The pattern is made to fit on 8-1/2 x 11 printer paper, for ease of printing, you have to cut the pattern out and either cut fabric on the fold or tape the pattern pieces together matching letters, then trace them out on the fabric, for instruction watch this video, the pattern says and gives the link.
@@ALump-hq2dd Hey no, if you taped the letters then you dont have to cut on the folds, thats only if you dont tape them together, and the pattern already comes with a 1/4" seam allowance

How long are the webbing straps supposed to be when you sew them to the strap panel pieces?
