This song has been on repeat for the past half an hour. I don’t understand much but it brings back memories of my time there and sometimes wish I could go back in time. I am from Suriname 🇸🇷, South America and lived 4,5 years in Fiji. It was the first foreign country I have lived in, and it already felt like home. I’ve had lovo, made many friends and visited many beautiful places. I felt at peace and the people were the friendliest, could always crack a joke with the bros. Eventually, I accepted a job offer in Europe because partially I wanted to see the other side of the world and mostly make my dad proud, I wanted to proof myself and show him that I can also make it in the “big countries” if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, after I moved, my dad suddenly passed away in March 2024 and I’ll never know if he was ever proud enough of me. Who would have known, that the day I left Suriname 5 years ago, would be the last day I saw him alive at the airport, and the first time I’d travel back home would be the time I’d bury him. 😢 It’s been hard to be at peace since, but I use my memories in Fiji to help me calm down, to help me remember that life can be beautiful. Life can also be cruel and unfair, but I want to thank Fiji that you were a part of my life, and that you have brought beautiful memories with you. You will always have a place in my heart!
