Aw thank you! Ah I would love to show them! I’m not sure how I’d do it in a way that’s interesting for RUclips haha but I’ll think on it! In the meantime I have a lot of photos on Instagram also under @minjalinjee 😊
I'd love to know how you learned to pattern like that - I often draft up my own patterns but I usually have to copy shapes from others. Also, love your moana there - beautifully done. I'm glad you love your corset cover :)
I had an amazing professor in grad school! But it also comes down to a TON of practice, I really think the more you do it the better you get! My first patterns were not good haha and I definitely still copy shapes from other people. Mostly I’ve just done it enough I know what shapes look “right” and what don’t but I was absolutely mystified by my professors’ abilities when I started learning! Sorry that was a super long answer lol
The buttons are so cute! Also, it's just crazy how corset accentuates your figure. Such a dramatic silhouette. Looking forward for the next part of the project (is it a petticoat?).
Thank you! And omg I love those buttons I could keep talking about how cute they are haha 😅 my waist is super easy to squish in there haha I think that combined with wide hips really helps corsets look dramatic on me 😋 the next part is the cage crinoline! Then petticoats!
Thank you! And I actually got the idea for coordinating underpinnings to the outers from bambilashesdesign on Instagram! It’s so much more fun than sewing tons of white fabric for weeks and weeks 😊
This is actually my favorite video so far! You’re so inspiring to watch. I think you are so talented and I love your content! I can’t wait to see the finished outfit, I just know it’s going to be amazing! You’re also making me eye Hannah Alexander’s Howl and Sophie outfits....
Aw well thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment!!! And omg I loooove her ghibli designs you should definitely do it! If you do please please dm me on Instagram so I can see it! (I don’t think yt does dms?)
Omg I've been going though this series and I'm obsessed. I'm feeling all the vibes. (FYI the type of collar this is is called a bertha collar, which for some reason is a different thing now than in the victorian era)
Hi! I’m newer to your channel and I’ve been watching your videos while hand-sewing my first chemise. I just want to say that I’m incredibly grateful for the detail you put into your art (the costumes and the videos). I feel like I’m learning a lot and it’s generous for you to share your knowledge with us. Thank you!
aw well thank you for watching! I'm glad you've found them helpful 😊 if you post your work anywhere please tag me, I'd love to see it! I'm minjalinjee on pretty much every platform!
I've heard of corset covers before but didn't really know their function. Learning that they're a protective garment was a "ohhh... yeah that makes sense" moment lol. Also, the patterning time-lapse was super fun to watch! Very nice work!!
ah thank you, and feel free to ask away!! I went to grad school for costume production and learned a lot working in theatre, but formal education is definitely not the only way to learn lots of sewing techniques!
That lace is so cute!! And it matches!! And it has a history! What more could we ask for? Anyways, lovely video ❤️ i was really curious about how the off shoulder straps would work with the puff sleeved chemise, but it ended up looking so lovely !
What a lovely little project, so useful and perfectly pretty! The small details really make an outfit and a corset cover is key. Edit: I forgot to mention because it's totally not the point of the video but I had fun spotting the soot sprites on your sweater!
Thank you! And haha I love this sweater, it’s actually from Hot Topic? Lol I was surprised when I found it, I haven’t shopped there since I was an emo high schooler
@@moth.faerie Human interaction during a pandemic is a good thing. You're one of my sanity points in all this, Kiddo... So thanks for that. Honestly, the trolls confuse me. OK, there's an opinion but why be mean about it? I left a comment for condolences for that Lee girl who was part of van life and committed suicide not long ago. And (so far) gotten two perfectly nasty replies back. Like, hey, you know, Dude, her family is gonna see at least some of this. Where is your head at... Other peoples children... Oye. It's one of the things that makes me hesitant about starting a sewing channel. Well. That and the fact that I'm an absolute Luddite.
Haha I'm glad I can be a good anchor for sanity! ❤ and omg that's horrible, I don't know much about the van life side of youtube but that's absolutely appalling that people would leave mean comments regarding someone's suicide. I'm so disgusted right now, it's so much easier to be nice or say nothing at all than to take the effort to say something mean. At least with sewing videos it doesn't seem that there are many trolls or mean commenters, the worst looks to be that people can sometimes be condescending about their sewing knowledge but I've yet to really encounter that personally! I think you should definitely start a sewing channel! It's very good motivation for actually finishing projects haha. And the technology part comes gradually but it's definitely a skill that you can visibly see improvements in as time passes!
I just discovered your channel and I love it! I've seen some examples of undergarments with straps that tie on in front, perhaps they are meant to be untied and tucked under top layers after the outer dress is on?
thank you! ooh that sounds interesting, I've only ever seen stays with tie-on straps but never a corset cover! Maybe that would have been more appropriate than what I did haha 😅
You are amazing at pattern drafting! Do you have any suggestions on books to learn this magic- I’ve tried and failed spectacularly at trying, because I have no actual knowledge of the drafting, just of using patterns, lol.
Aw thank you so much! And I learned from a variety of books in school! The ones we used most were “patternmaking for fashion” by Helen Armstrong, “dress pattern designing” by Natalie Bray, and “pattern drafting for fashion” by Teresa gilewska. It also really helped me to take apart clothes and look at the shapes to train my eye to see what looks “right” so it’s easier to kind of wing it!
Hey! I have been obsessed with this video series after I decided to use that McCalls dress pattern! I have been able to get the patterns for all of the other garments but I cant find a corset cover that looks as good as yours! Anyway to get that pattern?
ah i don't know if I have it anymore, but the book I used was "The Standard Work on Cutting Ladies' Tailor Made Garments" (link to it is in the description) and I think I used the basic pattern for curvy figures? Once I had the body figured out I just used the pattern from the chemise to do the straps so they would fall at the same place. I hope that helps! if you have more questions please feel free to ask!
Oh, I just found your channel! 🤩👏🏻 Love the corset you made and the color of the silk is just… 👌🏻 Gorgeous! Following on for future sewing adventures, for sure! Btw, where did you get the pattern for the corset? 😄
Ah yeah they’re a bit strained when I put them on bc it’s hard to move my arms around much with all the layers but once they settle they’re in the right place!
I just found your channel in the last week and I love your projects.. the cover came together nicely but it seems such a shame to cover the stunning corset.
If you're looking for a future pattern reference, Truly Victorian 107 has a mid-Victorian off-the-shoulder corset cover.
Thank you! I actually looked at that one and couldn’t tell if it was off shoulder or not, so thank you for the information!
This has been such a fun project to follow along with.
If you ever have a moment, it would be lovely to see more of your past cosplay projects
