  • Mazowiecka piosenka ludowa w wykonaniu zespołu Muzykanci. Polish folk song from Mazowsze region "On that hill" performed by Muzykanci band.
    A na onej górze
    przy jedwabnym sznurze
    dwoje drzewa stanęło, stanęło
    dwoje drzewa stanęło, stanęło
    Jedno jaworowe, drugie kalinowe
    a oboje zielone, zielone
    a oboje zielone, zielone
    A pod jaworowem, nadobny Jasieńko
    Szabelejką wywija, wywija
    Szabelejką wywija, wywija.
    A pod kalinowem, nadobna Kasieńka
    Złotem chustkę wyszywa, wyszywa
    Złotem chustkę wyszywa, wyszywa.

I think the translation is something like this:
    And on that mountain
    with a silk cord
    two trees stood still
    two trees stood still
    One sycamore, the other viburnum
    and both green and green
    and both green and green
And near Sycamore, the prominent Jasieńko
    She swirls, swirls
    She swirls, swirls.
And near Kalinow, a pretty Kasieńka
With a gold handkerchief, he embroiders
With a gold handkerchief, he embroiders.

      Tiny wee correction. ;)
      And on that hill*
      by a silk cord
      two trees stood still
      two trees stood still
      One sycamore, the other viburnum
      and both green and green
      and both green and green
And near sycamore, the prominent Jasieńko
      His saber he's swirling, swirling
      His saber he's swirling, swirling
And near viburnum, a pretty Kasieńka
Handkerchief with a gold she's embroidering, embroidering
Handkerchief with a gold she's embroidering, embroidering.
*I think it was not a mountain, but a hill, because we don't have mountains in Mazovia :D

so the translation is pretty simple and hard to mess up, but i prefer literal translations whenever i do any kind of work pertaining to slavic languages because losing grammatical context can be difficult at times, particularly when explaining slang or modern speak...
that being said, here are the literal translations that were colloquialized:
      > two trees stood still
it's just "stood stood". hence the word "stanelo" twice.
      > and both green and green
      no "and" - just "green"x2
      > His saber he's swirling, swirling
It's "with his saber, [he/she] is swirling" - the second pronouns in that sentence are not gendered
      > And near kalinow/vibranum
"And beneath *the* viburnum", as in the previously mentioned one.
      > a pretty Kasienka
It's a more archaic word than "pretty" that is used; I had never heard it in fact, and the only thing that comes up on Google is a book. "pretty" would be equivalent more to "piekna" etc. though that word is more commonly mapped to the word "beautiful" nowadays in Polish < - > English translations
      > he embroiders
The "he" does not exist; "wyszywa" is not gendered. The only thing that gives context to the gender of the principal is the fact that a female was mentioned prior; but that sentence strictly does not state who it was and asks for context from the previous one. Hence it's not fair to translate "wyszywa" as "he/she embroiders" since the prior sentence could be "and near the tree, a handsome Maciek".
What's my point? It's that 1-1 translations are impossible because of the amount of context that natural language creates and loses between sentences, and you can always be more pedantic than the last guy :-) particularly if you were born somewhere where they speak it.
