Guinness ( Irish landowners like Mahon , Tilney , , Bingham etc )was still producing beer from grain during the famine and 10 pints of that was enough to eend anyone rolling home . Paddy is the English pronunciation for the Irish name Padroig or Patrick
You just know whoever said "So long as Pope Henry the wife murderer doesn't dissolve the pubs I don't think we should have a problem" was drunk when he said it. It just sounds like something you say when you're drunk and regret when you sober up. That's not something against the Irish I've got Irish and English blood.
