One of the BEST HMONG movies I grew up watching. I remember how much this movie brought me into tears. I cried so much, and I would mind watching it all over again.
The last time I was here was 2007. It’s now 2020 and see this song by accident here and I listen to it again. It brings so much memories back then when I was still young and vulnerable. I wish I could turn the clock back.
I heard this song 14 years ago, it reminds me of my childhood, at that time there was no internet so we bought a DVD and watched this song in black and white TV.
I think this lady acts really good in this movie. She has a soft-toned voice. Tou is so handsome and he sings really good. He is my top Hmong singer. And, yes... he sings with real emotions. I wonder if he's married? I wonder why Tou isn't coming to US to perform his musics like Luj Yaj, Dawb Thoj, Foom, and others that are totally oldies and suck!! Tub's number one fan!!!
I guess with you 100 percent that if he comes to perform in America... I will be the first to get the ticket to see his concert. Oh, he is so young. I thought he was like 25-27 of age. Oh damn, he's a year younger than me. I think he's wayyy cuter than all his brothers. BTW, thanks for the 411 of Tou!

I like this song but it doesnt really go with the movie because in the song he's singing about the girl's mom not letting them be together but in the movie he cheated behind her back with another girl...So its not the mom's fault and she just didnt want her daughter to go back to him and get lied to again so its his own fault :/

part 1 had the best papaya salad scene, they got married w/ kids, i think he went back home and met his old gf, thing detoriated after that, he was alone after becoming a dunken person, her parents disliked him after it, he isnt allowed to see his kids.. and then scene was the climax that turned everything into a happy ending i think. I could have mistaken his other movies into it XD
I remember this movie vividly as well because of the papaya salad scene. But, they fell in love, got married, have kids. He then started mistreating her, so the mother left with the daughter leaving their son with him. The husband and son became poor while the mother and daughter lived better. One day, the mother and daughter spotted their son wanting food, mother paid for it, and the son return to his father. In the end, the family reunited. The sibling misses each other during their separation time. It's very sad and I miss this movie a lot.
In the movie, the dude had a old girlfriend before meeting this one. One day, he went out and found this lady then went to eat papaya with her and her friend. They ended up being together and had children. Soon, he ended up cheating on her and married another chick. The father kept the son, the mother kept the daughter, the mom and daughter went back to live with her parents. Then later, that chick ended up didn’t really like him and left him. The wife’s restricted the father to come see her and the daughter. Some time pass it ended up with this scene here where she was watching tv and saw her husband singing which causes her depression and passed out. Time flies they both ended up being together again. BUT that wasn’t it, when they got back together, remember the husband’s old girlfriend? Yeah she came back into the story. Then I don’t remember after that lol.
Alone this song is beautiful, but when I think about it in the context of this movie it taints the beauty of it for me; like they would still be together if he hadn't thrown her out in the first place...
