This is a great trim. No chrome, Rides like a limited and handles great for a large suv, superior ride hight and storage space. Great on highway and around town.
TRD Sports trims on Tacoma and 4Runner are underrated and under appreciated. Most common complaint with those two vehicles is that the suspension is too soft and boat, like feeling on the highway and city driving. The TRD Sport fix that issue without having to sacrifice, off-road capability. True off-road enthusiasts Do not need crawl control, or locking differentials, we grew up without any of those gimmicks. Most people off-road maybe once a month. TRD sport trims are the way to go for all around drivability.
I have a TRD sport that’s 4wd, but Im a competitive shooter in south Florida, so I pretty much need a truck/SUV that’s drives great on long road trips, but is able to drive down range on soft sand to setup targets… everyday I love this vehicle more and more
Depends on your needs, I would imagine if you live in snow, the all time 4wd system is supposed to be really good in the limited, also I believe the limited has heated seats if your up north
This vehicle is very heavy and feels solid but has poor safety scores which boggles my mind. I test drove one and fell in love with it immediately. I appreciate that it drives more like a truck than a SUV. In fact, I think it's in a category of its own and should not be compared to a car-based SUV like the Highlander. I'm looking forward, however, to updated models.
Arguably the best looking of all the trims, restrained and adult, both retro and timeless,...too bad it doesn't have some of the other bits. If I got one of the other (origami) trims, I'd like to put this front end clip on it!
We bought the TRD Sport November of 2021. We bought it for camping. We tow a small pop-up camper. Where we go you drive on the interstate most of the way there. We need 4 wheel drive once on the trails. But ours handled pulling the camper off road just fine. We don't do rock crawling or anything but the roads are not well maintained. Now when we did buy the 4runner we did get a set of the TRD off road tires and they make a huge difference. We test drove a lot of different vehicles in the same class and kept coming back the 4runner. Ours is perfect for what we wanted. After a year with the TRD Sport, we would choose anything else
Highlander? No thanks. No ground clearance. No more v6. Unibody. Y’all tried towing a utility trailer with a unibody suv? Sound resonates like a mf. I personally like the looks of the limited, not more than the off-road mind you, but probably better than the base sr5. This feels like a nice package for someone who’s on road 95+% of the time. Let’s be honest, that’s the vast majority of buyers.
I just bought a 2022 Toyota 4runner TRD off road premium Barcelona Red! Upgraded PRO wheels and skid plates. Emblems blacked out. 51 k out the door. I immediately put BF Goodrich KO2's on her. Made a huge difference. This truck is beautiful and extremely capable anywhere you go. Make sure you know what you are getting into. The 4runner IS slow. It like a fat tire bike. The gas mileage is horrible. My number 1 complaint is the sound system. I was extremely disappointed to find out my trim to not come with the Upgraded speakers and sub woofer. That being said...I have never felt so cool in any other vehicle. The 4runner is a head turner fir sure!! I'm excited to put more modifications on her. I am 10000% happy with my purchase!!
You did not get the KDSS. Was that due to a money thing or you don't like the KDSS. Just gathering some feedback. I am in the market and I am interested in the TRD off road Premium such as you have ?
@@OSAbsolam I took what I could get. I was extremely lucky to get Christine. I will upgrade suspension in next 2 years anyway. Just be aware modifications are not cheap. So I did a lot inside the truck that was inexpensive. Changing the lights out inside for LED lighting was super cool and easy to do. The key is to understand that you don't need to do all the modifications at once. Just have fun with it and spread it out over years.
@@OSAbsolam Most dealerships only get a few 4runners with kdss a year, unless they are a volume dealer. Most I talked to had people waiting on one with kdss for 1 year plus
The TRD Sport is basically a less expensive Limited. If you're in the market for a Limited this model may be a option. Your basically comparing apples and oranges if you think is a TRD offroad.. This vehicle is not for a serious off roader.. And as for target market I am retired and we love vacationing in the rockies. And I must also add if you want a great dependable body on frame vehicle that's good on highway this a great choice. And if you want a vehicle that gets great mileage look elsewhere.
I have a TRD Sport. I don't off road other than round dirt roads to the cabin. With 4wd low and Atrac it will go pretty much anywhere except slick rock, loose sand and deep snow. Rough trails, steep inclines, deep ruts, all with ease and with 20s ans street tires. I plan to swap out the wheels for 17s and go to some all terrains. For me its been great. As for looks, the front end grows on you. Its not bad. But i like the Gen 4 and 3 front ends.
I have a trd sport as well, ive tried the loose sand with decreased and regular tire pressue on the stock street tires and it handles well after doing it for a while but some all terrains would definitely be better as an all arounder
Too many put downs and negativity in this evaluation to a proven vehicle with a revolutionary suspension. Stick to your shitty American Cars who are subpar to what Toyota is known for Reliability and Value. Tone down your rhetoric. You sound like bitter evaluators who were fired by Toyota. Your off-road demo proved and surprised what Toyota could do.
People swap out tires on these all the time All you need to do is put 275/55R20 CONTINENTAL TERRAIN CONTACT A/T on it That's it Most people don't need roaring 3 foot tall tires with a 6" lift to have fun going off road And spend most of the time on the pavement
@joebagodonutssummertime8267 No, because it's not a differential. It's just a transfer case. But the transmission connects to the rear wheels and then the transfer case connects to the front axle.
Yes, and design/structure issues? It will be 2-3 years before a new generation 4 runners will be half as dependable as the current generation...and who will then be the idiot?
And only an idiot would write this. You don’t know what the new gen will offer and how long it will take to get it on par with this generation, but maybe you’re smart enough to know that this current platform is bulletproof.
Special thanks to our Patrons for their support of the channel! Would you ever buy a 4Runner TRD Sport?
Possibly....I would probably spring for a limited...

Just picked up my 2023 trd sport 2wd for highway and rides awesome at 70 plus mph.

The comment "its not fast" is very missplaced! No SUV is made for speed. 7 seconds to reach 100m/hr is impressive!!
Just the Durango Hellcat or Trawkhawk. 😊
Best looking suv on the market ! All 4 runners

Their offroad track looks like every other driveway in New England. Especially in the spring.
lol
I'd imagine with an alternate off road wheel and tire set it'd do quite nice.

I agree!
Well put
For sure. 100%
I think I like Paulo…he is like your alter ego.
Matt: let’s honor our suppliers…
Paulo: f*** them…they don’t track this…
The channel is getting BIG!
That truck would look killer if it were lowered, and put a supercharger in it
very reliable truck 🚚
I’d get the sport if they’d add the sunroof
Great truck. Last forever!!! Just need snow tires.

“Might as well buy a Highlander” ?? Umm…no thanks. I’ll take the 4Runner TRD Sport. Poor gas mileage is its only real flaw.
I didn’t really see any off-road driving?
I love your Toyota 4runner truck 👍 good luck 👍
A two wheel drive 4 runner is actually a 2 runner.
The guy in the White is annoying.
Traded min sport after 1 and 1/2…didn’t like it much with the wheels and tires …went back to SR5 premium
The music says something big is coming😅
I never see so much drama and over reaction just to make a test drive. You guys.
Makes it entertaining to watch.
Yes the cameras suck BUT May bee Toyota knows they will last 60 years +
When in 4L or 4L isnt the center diff locked, like in the Limited?
There is no center diff.
@@rangerover06sc When you lock it into 4wd, what are you locking then?
@joebagodonutssummertime8267 The transfer case works like an on/off switch. It's either connected and locked or disconnected, and RWD
@@rangerover06sc So its a center diff that connects the transmission to the front end..
@joebagodonutssummertime8267 No, because it's not a differential. It's just a transfer case. But the transmission connects to the rear wheels and then the transfer case connects to the front axle.
Not ideal if you have $6 dollar gas. I'll buy this when hybrid is available.
translation : can't afford it.......lol
Thats the main issue... mpg.... if working as a Nurse here in the US, is 4runner still ok compared to their salary?
You won’t spend that $ on maintenance with this puppy. It’ll last 300000 miles
Na; IMO, the Highlander looks like a van; 4Runner looks like a truck.
coood
Only an idiot would buy this current generation new. The new generation is just around the corner!!!
Who wants a 4 cyl turbo??
Yes, and design/structure issues? It will be 2-3 years before a new generation 4 runners will be half as dependable as the current generation...and who will then be the idiot?

@WoodshavenPatriot Who want a 5 speed transmission and 19 mpg highway. I mean a v8 ford explorer could get better mileage than that, from decades ago
