- The fourth edition of the Rendez-vous littéraires rue Cambon [Literary Rendezvous at Rue Cambon] was held at Somerset House, a leading London arts centre.
In conversation with writer Erica Wagner, ambassador and spokesperson for the House Charlotte Casiraghi invited writer Jeanette Winterson to pay tribute to the work of Virginia Woolf. Actress and CHANEL ambassador Keira Knightley opened the discussion by reading an extract from ‘Professions for Women’, a speech Virginia Woolf gave to the National Society for Women's Service in 1931.

oh my Keira knightly I cried listening to you. What an actress you are
this was such an intellectual and rejuvenating conversation. I felt instantly inspired listening to these elegant and wise women talk and discuss literature. A part of me yearns for a fellow confidante or a group with whom I could hold meaningful conversations like this
Exactly My thoughts after hearing the ladies . So inspiring yet elusive

Your words are also inspiring!
I totally agree with you and I'm searching for the same thing for years now. The intelectual needs of us women are all reflected in this little group and the such few subjects they brings to the conversation. I only wish that we could see more moments like this.
I could listen Keira the whole day...
Jeanette absolutely blew me away with her speech, what a wonderful writer and speaker she is.
As a young African woman working in an environment dominated by men (I am literally the only woman in my unit), this speaks a lot to me. This is such a robust discussion and so inspiring!
I feel so privileged to have experienced this. It’s like the conversation I’ve always dreamed of.
Where do you work? How was your experience so far?
I just want to say to Chanel: thank you so, so, much for brilliant projects like this. I adore literature and this conversation is an amazing pleasure. Bravo!
Remarkable reading from Keira and amazing narrative from Jeannette. The 5 women on the panel are exceptional. Bravo
This was such a treat to watch. I especially loved Charlotte Casiraghi's insights. I thought she had an inspiring view of Virginia Woolf, connecting her words to a Holy Mother figure. I've tried reading Mrs. Dalloway several times, and I'll try again now with Charlotte's approach in mind. Thank you, Chanel.
Thank you Chanel for really understanding women and following through with these vlogs. Whether in French or English I love them all the same. As a brand I’m so glad to see you understand it’s not just about what we wear - it’s intelligence that’s attractive. This discussion and Kiera’s reading were lovely and insightful. Thanks again for adding beauty into my life with words. I loved it.
Merci Charlotte, Merci Chanel ! Toujours top comme d’habitude ✨
Thank you so very much Chanel for another opportunity to learn a bit more in every single episode!
i'm in love with keira's voice 😍
Thank you so very much. The delicate sound of Virginia Woolf's voice. What a joy!
Jeanette is my all time favourite author. No writer makes me want to be better, live broader, feel more 🥰🥰
Fantastic! Love the reading from Woolf on killing the Angel in the House. Thank you.
A stimulating conversation with which to start the week. Loved Keira Knightley's reading and Jeanette Winterson's discussion of VW. What is missing from so many women's lives is that sense of ease; that sense of leisure as we tear around trying to be everything to everybody, especially The Angel in the House. I'm going to try and quieten that voice - for the coming week at least! The question of VW's age - why should men be prosperous and women poor? - could be widened out, to why should some sections of society be so prosperous and others so poor. That too is a topic for our age and one VW would have engaged in vigorously, I think. .
How wonderful to hear from this group of talented women.
I like very much Charlotte Casiraghi approach of Luxe through Literatture, I think is very important. I think that idea is very powerful, i dont have the connection with her mum Caroline de Monaco with that, but it’s something necessary, to recover literature. Thanks Chanel.
Life-changing conversation. Heartfelt gratitude for this offering. So timely for me.
What a treat! Thank you so much for reminding us the great Virginia Woolf's mind by group of beautiful ladies.
It´s great to see women using their power and position (on a platform like Chanel) to share and promote the "thinking", the ideas, the literary and philosophy works in an open way for women. I had the opportunity to give some philosophy classes in Mexico for medium and old aged women without formal education, it was hard but wonderful to discover for them their own understanding of ideas while reading, and for me to find the way to explain in simple words the concepts and arguments, and to discuss in class, their intellectual interest emerged in more and more secure words and questions.
Thank you, I enjoyed listening to this. Inspiring, thought provoking and elegant. So pleased you’re making English editions now, Chanel. Lovely hearing These women discuss literature, also great to have a northern woman present!
There is something deliciously subversive about Winterson's lecture here - a need for public libraries, the pressures on women to put on a show in masculine spaces, many women internalise conventions & are in the service of patriarchy...we are here to support one another...we need to use our privilege and power in the service of good...I am in awe of her presence on that stage as her animated, inhabited self 🧡
This is such a refreshing conversation.
I also want to discuss things and get into these type of conversations.
Thank you for making this happen!
I've heard and know a lot about Virgina Woolf as a public figure similarly knowing, through various media adaptations, like Jane Austen ( whose work I've never read **Pride and Prejudice**but feel like I have!) her presence is ubiquitous and legendary in the modern world of language, film and art. However, I was always intimidated by her. This has definitely stoked the fire to get reading! The piece Keira read was wonderful.
Virginia Woolf 4ever ♥️ all those questions still so urgent - wonderful, thank you
Oh thank you so much! Such an electric and beautiful conversation about the great Virginia Woolf, my hero.
Thank you for this speech. I’ve always thought that all our system (industry, magazines, society) is conjuring to keep women stick to a role even when it seems they are claiming our freedom. It’s 2021, I live in Italy and I still see women leaving as if we were in the XX century.
Came here by chance. What a good surprise ! I love Keira Knightley. Thank you all !
What a joy of listening to this great group of women readers you made my day thank you Velia Richards from Naperville Illinois U.S.A
I have goose bumps... wow so powerful
Thank you for this lecture/discussion. It was very powerful. I shall pick up that discarded half read paperback at the side of my bed and dive into it again. I shall read it as a poem this time. Wonderful video. Wonderful women.
This is such a treat for the soul.
Rencontre étonnante de haut niveau. Passionnante et bien menée.
Janet Winterson, is a bloody star, this was lovely.
This was a wonderful exploration and discussion. Merci.
This is the conversation I dream of.
thank you very much for this moment 🙏
Wow, so inspiring, thank you!
This was an amazing session!
Thank you for this clip! When Andre Aciman suggested that Woolf be stricken from the Western Canon, I was horrified!
Ojalá llegara a más personas el mensaje. Ésto es realmente refrescante. Bravo Chanel, bravo Charlotte!
This is really amazing show.
Jeanette and Virginia, women to look up to!
I love this! And such elegant and intelligent women.
Charlotte.. This is a good avenue for you. Refreshing!
Very interesting. Thanks you all.
Gracias Chanel 😘
Suscrita 🤗💕
I don't understand English well, but I listen to these women and have fun
Please do more of these !
Very interesting subject and so well exposed...
There was mention of equal pay by knightley but its not just that its many things, education, other peoples abuse of power or inaction of power. The varying degree of womens rights from country to country. womens health awareness theres many things and still not enough done. Any women who has a position of power needs to leverage it for other women, and not be taking it for granted. Its important to be vocal on these issues.
Videos like this will broaden your mind

Very good work 👍👍❤️🌺🌺
Woo good💞
Thank you very much!
Wow my God, wow thank you so much. 🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 Does by Keira Knightley My God 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌹.
There's a movie dedicated to this Genius? because it's so special this emotional reading of Keira Knightley... it's incredible, I don't know honestly if there's already a movie on V.W. I hope so.
Creativity is a practical thing... It is true. That a group of real wise women, wow, yes 🖤🙏🏻🔥
"You think about the past, you 're managing the present, you're wondering about the future". 🖤🙏🏻🌼
Very Beautiful
Wonderfull. Thanxs
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I enjoy it in this
This video wonderful

Keira Knightley 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
well i'm off to my local public library tomorrow
The interesting thing about this is not what these ladies think of Virginia Woolf. It's what she would think of the fact that a fashion house like Chanel deals with these kinds of issues... Yes, she probably wouldn't waste a single second of her time watching or hearing this...
This video awsome its video my fev video
Hi! Why is the video different (way shorter) than the podcast episode? I look it up here to be able to read Jeanette words and I find out some parts have been cut out!
So appreciate this episode in English. 🤍🖤
Love British accent 😍
Ame ✨ 🦋 gracias ❣️ 🌏 ❣️ 🇺🇾
Where is it filmed ? The buildings in the back look grand.
The windows say it is a London rue Cambon ! 🙂
Somerset House ?
C'est Panam. Sûrement dans une des salles de Chanel...
Errato. I just checked the description. It says it's in London...
Jeanette Winterson, what an interesting mind is!
Virginia didn't kill anyone but herself. Her suffering and grief is what she really died from
Charlotte speaking with very Brit Style
❤💜💜💕
