I remember years ago when gasoline in this country was hovering around $2.25 a gallon people were trying to justify a recent cost increase on it by saying that other people in Europe were paying up to $5 dollars a gallon for the same amount of gasoline over there I used to tell them "people in Europe don't have the same distances to drive as we do here in the States especially those of us living in the southwest part of the country". Most could not picture what I was referring to but this video is a great example of what I meant by saying this.
My wife and I went to Alaska this past spring for our 30th Anniversary. I knew it was the largest state but when I saw a picture of it superimposed overtop a map of the lower 48, I was blown away that it was almost half the size! Just that tail of Alaska where the inside passage is, was alone about the size of Florida!

Lived in alaska my whole life. Lots of nature, not a lot of people. Pretty amazing place to live if you can handle the long winters and higher cost of living. The only thing i dont really like about being here is how expensive everything is.
I had an Alaskan tell me one time if you were able to split Alaska exactly in half to make another state, Texas becomes the third largest state in the country. With this video and numbers I can see, yeah, it’s more than double the size of Texas.
Though it may not seem like it, those islands of the coast of British Columbia are actually property of Alaska since they broke off from said state. An Xbox friend of mine lives on one of those islands.
Singapore - 700 km2. 3.6 million people 2 million Local Singaporeans. 1.12 million Foreigners (95% Foreign Workers and 5% IS Students such as SAS/UWCSEA/OFS). 480,000 Permanent Residents.
I agree with the comment, “Nice Video, would’ve been better if you used the state flag instead of the US flag,” from @MaxxwellMax, for several reasons that revolve around the importance of context, representation, and respect for local identity. First and foremost, using a state flag over the US flag in certain contexts allows for a more focused representation of local pride, history, and culture. While the US flag represents the country as a whole, each state has its own unique identity, traditions, and history, and their flags often symbolize this rich heritage. By using a state flag, the video could have provided a more personal and localized connection for viewers who identify strongly with their state. For example, the colors, symbols, and design elements of a state flag are often deeply meaningful to residents and reflect their state’s specific values, landmarks, or historical moments. Additionally, in some contexts, such as a video celebrating a particular state’s achievements, history, or culture, the state flag would feel more appropriate and relevant, offering a deeper sense of belonging and pride to the people being represented. Using the state flag could also align the content with local customs and traditions, which may resonate better with the target audience, especially if the content is intended to be regional or community-focused. Furthermore, the US flag, while representing the nation as a whole, can be seen as a symbol that might not always capture the nuanced identity of an individual state. For people who feel a stronger connection to their home state than to the federal government, the state flag can evoke a greater sense of unity, pride, and significance. In addition, using the US flag in such a context might unintentionally overshadow the unique aspects of the state’s identity, making the video feel less tailored to its intended audience. By incorporating the state flag, the video would not only align with regional pride but also demonstrate a deeper understanding and respect for local culture and values. This approach could also serve to foster a stronger sense of community and local solidarity, which is vital in many states with distinct identities, traditions, and histories. Ultimately, while the US flag holds immense symbolic importance for the entire country, choosing the state flag in certain contexts enhances the video’s relevance and emotional connection to its specific audience, making it a more fitting and powerful choice.
There was a Texan in a bar bragging about how everything is bigger in Texas. There was a guy from Alaska nearby and he said, "In Alaska, we are so sick of hearing Texas brag on the news that we might just split Alaska in two, and make Texas #3."
Alaska is twice the size of Texas. If moved on a map to the lower 48, it would take up roughly one-third of the country. And the distance of the state, horizontally, is as wide as the lower 48, from coast to coast
A lot of people think Alaska is tiny because it's scaled down and drawn in a tiny box on most maps when it could stretch from west to east if it was placed on top of the continental US.
That is because the amount of electoral votes a state gets is dependent on the population, not physical area of a state. Sure, Alaska might be the biggest state by area, but it has a population less than 750k.
Crazy that the states with the 3rd and 4th highest population (Florida and NY) are so far down on the list of size. Kinda explains why traffic sucks so bad here in the sunshine state.
