All kinds of stuff to see here. A young Cleetus, Geo before he got in shape, beater bomb with an engine combo that wasn't secret, and 1000hp being the pinnacle rather than the benchmark.
Baby Cleetus was an eye opener for sure. Makes you realise just how old this video is. 500hp was his fastest ride before this video. Today he owns 3, 1000+ horsepower, 7 second drag cars.

1000hp was the pinnacle LONG before TX2k13. maybe at TX2k4. Supras and Vipers were already in the 8s and making 1000+ by then. two of the Supras on the streets at TX2k6 were comparable to the ones in this video. not to mention the INSANE power at the 2006-2009 dyno days.

It used to be like this in a lot of places but people ruined it. Where we used to race in Cali the CHP would post up on the hill and just watch us to make sure things didnt get out of control. It was so much more fun that way

Crazy how it can seem like this was so long ago but also not so long ago at the same time. Time flies it's crazy to see how much things have changed. Imagine going back to 2013 and telling them how much power cars are making today and how far tech has come in the last 8 years.
Yeah, this - imagine being told your 800hp car was a bit too slow and wouldn't keep up.
It was already like that at Tx2k13. My evo made 805 spinning on the dyno at Hennessey that day, so the '800hp Evo' was true. Still had lots of people run away from me.
Still the most fun week of car stuff I've had.
LMAO, 8 years? a thing called the McLaren did it all in 1991, n/a, 253mph, hp comes from all over the World, the US is late to the party....by about 30 years LOL
@@markholroyde9412 that little mclaren? A few million dollars brand new and took years to get to that speed. These cars cost less than a quarter of that.
@@dinocrest1946 Doesn't matter, it was here in '91, the US had IROC Zs and 180hp junk like that running round......and it was £600K not millions...derp, and it did the speed by just moving the rev limiter LOL

2 things that stood out to me is how far Joey and GTRs in general have come. GTRs were like 8-900hp back then and look at them now and Joey is almost unbeatable now.

I was living outside North Houston just getting introduced to racing and your videos when this was made. Lots of nostalgia and 'member berries here.
Bit of a love-hate with this time period - it was DEFINITELY a lot cooler when 2k was more of a loose gathering of massive HP hotrods just lighting up the highways. But, at the same time, I think the GT-Rs & Lambos really started to change things(for the worse IMO, but pers pref). And of course now everyone has $20k sequentials and everything, it was just a lot more fun when most everyone was out there rowing an H-pattern.
But, hey, shout out to the resurgence of H-pattern racing - there's been a LOOOOOT of FB drama the past few days because some people are trying to go a LOT faster than others lmao
After having been to TX2K 3 times, the majority of cars street racing are still stick shift sub-1000hp cars.
Props to the h-pattern crowd! There's alot of wisdom in these posts if you bother to read them. I finally knuckled under and bought my dream car for my 66th birthday.. A shiney, well kept up 2017 C7 with manual transmission.. OF COURSE! At my age I don't need to win many races anymore.. but the sound of an engine furiously chopping through the gears was non negotiable!
I agree, not to mention their ego in those high priced cars. See the skinny bald old man acting tough because he was with his buddies? Dude would've ate a 10 piece to the grill.

I was at this TX2k, as soon as I saw the big single turbo grey 5th gen parked by the door at the Omni I thought damn is that guy always parked right there at every TX2k. Then I read the description, that was a fun TX2k event.

Our best guess is it will move to Dallas until anew track of similar caliber is opened in Houston area (hopefully it can happen in the future)

Crazy to see that the biggest power cars were 1k hp Supra’s, gallardos, and GTRs. Now we got UGR and Sheepy huracans making 2k hp, Calvo Vipers making 3k hp and a lot of Supra’s somewhere in between
