The Sequre D60 is the best cheap soldering iron you can get. Its soldering performance is just as good as the TS100, its bigger brother. But somehow they've got the price down to just $30-$35! The TS100 has more convenience and features but if all you want to do is stick wires to pads, the D60 will get it done.

I've had this iron for over a couple months, totally recommend it. Its great for the price!
I have as well.
When you power it up it shows the current ambient temperature. That means that you can use it as a thermometer!!! ;)
I'm jamming it in the chicken on the grill!😅🤣🤣
@@jakekisiel7399 I think you mistook dog for furnace
Same on the ts100 🙄
Yum! I hear lead is great for the body 🤪
Not really, the thermocouples in these soldering irons are terribly inaccurate
TS100-4-Life :)
I bought one in a Banggood sale at the beginning of this year, literally minutes after I tried using it I went back on Banggood and ordered another whilst it was still on offer. One for home, one for my quad backpack.
Best purchase I've ever made was the TS100
@@ryansainsbury2038 For about 12 years I've been using one of those big powerbrick+wand irons and it's amazing how easily the TS100 can solder the same heavy gauge wire as that old one.
The wand of the powerbrick iron died once, simple £10 replacement, I attached the grip of the old wand to an umbrella with a broken handle using custom 3D printed parts :)
@@licensetodrive9930 lol, same here, so much smaller, and easier to work with.
@@licensetodrive9930 I'm wondering if the ts100 can do 10awg wire onto xt90 connectors?
@@ValFPV Personally the largest I've soldered is XT60 and it has no trouble with that. But you can solder XT90s with it, this guy did: ruclips.net/video/OYDeogFmLWI/видео.html
Powering it from 20v-24v means it will heat up significantly faster than 12v, good for when soldering things that soak up the heat, and there's a custom firmware that pushes its max temp from 400C to 450C.
This is a sign from the Lord. I’ve been readying myself to buy a T100 and now something to save on reveals itself!
Check out the secure sq-001, either a Ts-100 clone, or same one under a different name, I've tried it, and couldn't tell a difference.
@@RCOverKill yeah I've got the clone it's great
snagged one of these from RDQ when they were very first listed a few months ago. Best purchase I've made in a long time. It works phenomenally, and I have no complaints.
Can you upgrade the firmware like the sq001 and ts100?
JB- you don’t have to be the first to review, the honored practical way to test first still is the best. And coming from a trusted source is the way to go, in my humble opinion......... but.....buy once a proper tool and you will soon forget the price, buy a cheap tool and you will beat yourself when you have to replace it because you have saved a couple of bucks. Absolutely from experience of 60+ years of hands on tool work.
While this was my first soldering iron, unfortunately I will be replacing it. Long story short, the screws attaching the tip to the body don't secure it in a way that lets the iron perform consistently. I try to tighten the screws, but one just falls out (both are able to screw in just fine without the tip). So any pressure or picking it up wrong and you'll get an "S-E" error (basically the tip contact isn't correct so the iron cools down). I've tried different screws, but no luck.
I loved that I could use my USB-C phone charging cable for it while at my desk. So if anyone reads this and decides to buy, make sure the tip attached securely. And if not, return or warranty it before its too late like me.
I like my Sequre D100. Got it from RDQ. It uses the same barrel connector as the TS-100 and comes with the adapter.
Back in the days I was repairing TVs with a schematic, a multi-meter(analogue) and a induction soLdering gun. Down to individual transistors, resistors and caps. I've seen people doing a brilliant job with cheap tools and people doing really shitty jobs with very expensive equipment, soLdering irons and other gizmos. I've built my own soldering station from an old PC PSU, 6 euro chinese 12V soldering iron with proper tips, and few other bits and bobs. Got another 230V, 60W (with my own DIY temperature control module) for tough jobs. Built 5 quads with them and other electronics projects, including my own flight controllers. It's all down to skills. The trick is in the quality of solder and flux you're using, and then adapt to it and polish the skill. Practice, practice, practice.. That's it. We're not building a space-crafts here. It's a hobby.
Im a beginner, any tips on what products to use and such ?
How do I make a soldering station from an old psu?
Yup. Blows my mind when people recommend soldering stations for hundreds of dollars to beginners. I've been using the same $10 iron for years, and I'm just now wanting to upgrade it, but it was 100% serviceable for soldering microcontrollers and non-smd components.
These are great, I have used it many, many times repairing and resoldering the Jumper 16.
I use 5 dollars iron and never had problems building quads for almost 5 years :)
Same..got mine from banggood almost 4 years ago. Cost £8 and still rocking out builds..😁
Fantastic! Thanks a lot, Joshua! 😃
I've been looking for a soldering iron to replace my bench one! This one looks like a big step in the right direction! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Every time you attach this particular outro Im immediately reminded of the Tom Waits song "What's he building in there?"...
Jusst had to share that! :v
Ive got one of these Sequer soLdering irons in my shopping basket waiting until Im less shitty with BG before I pull the trigger...
I DID have a TS100- was one of my first purchases in/for the hobby...
I only used it 2 or 3 times & packed it away to move house only for it to be stolen by the gumby I moved in to board with & now it's gone forever- nearly 100AUD down the gurgler.
Was originally pointed at the TS100 by Final Glide Aus & been intending to buy another, but after having already bought one & being on a budget I had been putting it off...
I didnt know about the D100 so will be checking that out instead I think,,,
Thanks for that JB & all the best
Laugh if you want, but for the amount of soldering I do I purchased one from the Dollar Store around 7 years ago and it works perfectly.
Been running the SQ ts100 clone for a while now, love it!
I have been rocking this iron for the last few months!! A Great option!
7-segment display (LED -Light emitting diode).. not LCD
👍
Thought I'd add to this:
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display , a calculator has one of these
@Mack Premo OMG = Oh My God
WTF = When Thoughts Form
FPV = yessir
LED display or BCD or 7 segment display...
i love this thing ive been using one for over a year you can use a lipo or like a computer power plug 100% behind this thing mines blue
just wanted to say thanks for sharing your video and im a rookie starter in solder and to tell you the truth wasnt gonna subscribed but your ending in the video is great and again thanks for the help.
You are not wrong Joshua! I bought a tinyhawk 2 to avoid building but had to borrow a soldering iron to fix the battery cable back on, ugliest solder ever but it works again!
Perfect timing for me with this video!
Have you or can you, do a vid on solder types and flux? What do you use? 👍🤙👍
I'm pretty sure the secure sq-001 is the same as the ts-100, a friend bought a secure, and I couldn't find any difference. I started with a soldering station, the Ts 100 is so much nicer to work with, fast heating, precision work.
I have sq001 and is the same as ts100, beside the shape of the buttons.
Talon makes one for $23.00 I like a lot
Talon T12 DC 12-24V 72W Mini Adjustable Temperature 200-400°C Electric Soldering Iron Welding Tool with T12-BCF2 Tip
thank you thank you thank you Joshua i would be lost without you
You helped me so much when I got into this hobby thanks Bardwell
Sickk, just orderd 1 of these, glad your reviewing this haha
I`ve been told, that TS-100 and SQ 001 are from same factory. SQ001 is updated, V 2.. Thank you for very nice videos!!
More important than the type of iron are the 3 C's rule of soldering:
Clean. Clean. Clean.
Clean the wire and surfaces either mechanically, or chemically, before soldering. Copper wire begins to oxidize as soon as it's manufactured. And continues to do so inside it's insulation, just slower in the absence of air. So always use a dab of liquid flux, even if you've just stripped the insulation, even if it's pre-tinned. A little goes a long way.
No flux? Simply remove copper oxidation from a board or lug with a pencil eraser.
Keep flux remover chemicals away from plastic! Even alcohol. Especially MEK.
MEK is nasty stuff to my knowledge. I've always used isopropyl alcohol.
@Cobalt985 MEK was used to clean the rosin flux before newer orange oil & other types of cleaners were developed to reduce the use of chemicals, including MEK and particularly fluorocarbons like freon that were damaging the ozone layer.
for about the same price, I prefer my Pinecil from pine64. pinecil has both usb-c & DC5525 port. allows you to use usb-c port to power from charger, or dc5525 port to connect to a battery. has robust os too. Ralim is active in the pine discord & listens to new features people want, tries to add them to new IronOs he shares freely with community. it's 25+ ship for pinecil & has OLED screen.
Awesome already order along with the Speedybee and some extra Solder!!! Thanks man!!!👌👌👌👌
Look at the sh72 on Banggood. I got one months ago and have always used it on a 4s battery. No issues here. Amazing iron. What’s up quickly as well
you get my like for saying soldering...soddering sounds very much a specialist adult past time to us in the UK
I still want a TS100 but you are so right. Those cheap RadioShack or hardware store irons suck so bad! If you do ANY soldering what so ever, invest in a good one and get the job done right. This would be an excellent choice for someone just getting into the hobby. Spend the extra $5.00
No idea if you read comments on older videos but i recomend checking out the pine64 pinecil.
Dare i say in some ways a straight upgrade for nearly a third of the price
Someone once told me that the ISDT 608AC was the best first battery charger, he forgot to mention its power supply is perfect for powering these little irons. P.S. The SQ-001 also has a version of stock firmware that goes up to 450C.
Damn mate, your comment is so underrated! I also have both, the Charger and the Iron and I never realized I could use the Powersupply brick of the charger with it :O! Real MVP! I was so annoyed that it needed an extra usb C power supply that i never bought it! just tried out your trick and it works great!
PS: Joshy should really pin your comment!
This needs to be pinned comment! Now I know what charger I'll be upgrading to!
My ts 100 crapped out. Any hack tips. Will get this one.
The price for this thing is so right. I love mine on 6s.
Hello,
How accurate is the led display temperature on the d60 ? 🤔
Mine literally just got here haha it’s literally in my hands from the mailbox
Is there a base stand that will work better than the tiny toy piece they include?
You need to check the SH72
Thanks Joshua, really appreciate the tips on cheap good stuff.
Good choice 👌 👍 👏
The firmware that you can flash is nice for leftys like me.
SH72 is also great but doesn't have display or any indicator. But costs $12 and heats up very fast.
I bought a 7$ iron in aliexpress about 5 years ago, I have built around 6 quads with it, one of them was a 2000$ photography platform, I also use it for everything else , from arduino to diy projects, and is just fine. I use a high quality soldering wire.
So as many other products in the hobby Ill never understand the aversion and criticism for cheap gadgets. I do use a nice black taranis x9d (because it looks more professional when I have to work) and a 40$ flysky that has been with me for 5 years, and again, havent had a single issue with it, and I use it 75% of the time compared to the x9d...
Get that custom firmware for your ts100 it has nice features
Thanks
for Joshua Bardwell Great review and soldering testing.
If it's good enough for bardwell then it's perfect for me.
I like the Sequre SQ-001 it has the same look as the ts100
Low temp setting is for heat shrinking and fixing whoop frames!..
People say that it draws 1.37 amperes no matter of the power supply voltage. So it have about 33w max power. Could you please check It's power consumption at 24 volts?
This thing flies amazing on 6s
Thanks I think you just sold me. Was gonna get a cheapo but wanted something decent for keyboards and etc.
They are 29$ on RDQ thru Bardwell’s Link..
A got electrict current about 10-11 volt in bolt of this solder (all of three bolt show this current, not only the tip). Is it normal or there is something with mine?
sold sir.
Is this soldering iron good for lead free solder
Just order for s(ec)ure! Thank you! Been searching for 2 weeks now, to much choice and so much biased opinions.. most of it is nonsens. But I trust you so better i'll get this one 😉 (ps i won't blame you if this one does work okay)
Cool, can the USB on the iMac power this properly?
You should check out the pine 64 one it's about 40$ and is usb c
I want to buy and use a 1800mah 6S 22.4v battery like the one in video,
to solder, can this be charged with a regular wall plug adaptor, say 9-12v 2 amp?
I'm using it with baseus 65w powerbank but I have to use PD 20V trigger (cable or tc66c for example)
Thanks for the great advice
Do one on a good power Screwdriver!
Hi Joshua, Does your D60B still work?
Recommendation for inexpensive soldering iron to repair crashed drone. Want bench top plug in US NOT portable, Recommendation?? Thx
If you plug your lipo in, will it tell you when it's dead before you kill it?
Where do I get a bent shaft shirt? lol is that what that is??
I'll still stick to my ts100. The best Iron you can get. Period.
It's mediocre. Hot enough but the tip is too far from the handle. Also the power cords are too inflexible and rarely silicone insulated. You don't realize what you're missing until you've used a good iron like a JBC or PACE.
no way man. hakko soldering stations are electrronics standard soldering station
@@attainableapex I have a hakko collecting dust in the corner of my shop. I used to believe that until I tried other irons. TS100 and TS80p are better than the hakko irons. Pace is better than those, and JBC is the high end. Try one, you'll be a believer. JBC will send you evaluation units to try free for 30 days. Unfortunately you'll want to buy one after evaluating it.
For me it does the job on the bench, aswell as in the field. The versatility of the ts100 is unmatched in my opinion. Sure a hakko is a nice Station, no doubt, but what do you do when a motor gets demolished on a Race day?
@@bullwaifpv320 Yep, Ts100 is traditionally the best portable solution. This D60 sounds just as useful as TS100 might be. Given that there really isn't a company behind TS100, d60 may be just as good. I may have retired the hakko station in favor of JBC CD-1BE, but my ts100 goes with me when I leave the house.
I wonder if you can use this with an ISDT 608 AC, with the DC power mode
ever since I've used my ts100 for the first time, I know I'm not going to go back to one of those thick soldering irons.
Your links seem to only go to the d60 b version ..just a heads up . Not sure if its sold out or what . But so people don't buy it expecting the digital version. Or maybe I'm just not seeing it.
RDQ and GetFPV link are to a search for the term "sequre" in the whole store, returning all Sequre products sold by the store.
Yeah they must not carry the digital version. But the banggood link has it. Thinking of getting the ts100 . If I buy it through banggood on your link will you get some commission? Or just if I buy the sequre? I just dont want to have to replace anything for a long time and the ts100 is only a couple bucks more really.
What tips do you use the most would you say ?
great review. Interesting irons. The end card though, JB been watching some Alton brown.
Nice thank you thats what I need
Such a shame that you cant get replacement shells for the ts100 for any decent price anymore. Mine has cracked everywhere for some reason...
Hi Josh. Any recommendations for soldiering battery aluminum tabs together?
Spot welder.
Is it best than sq-001 soldering iron??!
Great video. The d100 sounds interesting but I just bought a T-100 for $54 a couple months ago. I wasn't aware that you can change the max temperature though. I think mine only goes to 300. How can I raise that?
Look up the "ralim" firmware.
Really wish this video came out 5 frickin’ days ago.....
it's possible to use this soldering iron with laptop charger
or only with battery 4s/6s?.
I checked. it's possible. But important things. power adapter have to be DC not AC!!!
How would this compare to the cheap AOYUE station? (obv its portable, but for at home tho)
I cant heat up my Solding iron when I longpress the A-button, the LED says S-E when I longpress the A-button. Does anyone know how to fix that????
Is it possible to power it with an external power supply with a jack connector?
Interesting question!! I would like to know also if is possible to power it with an AC-DC converter
It comes with a USB to barrel plug. The barrel plug can connect to a wall adapter.
Thank you so much for the answer Joshua!! I am a big fan of your video that gives me the possibility to learn a lot!!! ;)
How much high power we talking for a powerbank?
I got a $25 dollar kit and thought it was great until I went to use it. Upgrade time.
If you can get a TS100 or TS80
Would it be possible to run this soldering iron off a lipo charger, specifically the ISDT 608AC?
We in the UK say Solder like you.
the point of bringing it down to 100C is probably so you can boil water for tea
Hi do these take the TS100 /001 tips?
Whats the difference between the "B" and "W" models?
One has only three lights; the other has an LCD screen.
@@JoshuaBardwell Ok I did a dumb question there, help a newbie out, are the tips of all soldering irons interchangeable? (I mean this and other brands) TL: I've only owned disposable irons for small work. Is it compatible with SQ-001 and TS-100 tips?
any links to the d100? when i type in sq d100, i get things like industrial heat sinks....
Sq001 is the ts100 equivalent
How long can you solder when using a battery as a power source, e.g. a single charge of 3-6s batteries? If anyone has tested charge duration, I'd really appreciate it!!! I want to replace the soldering iron I currently use when doing all my soldering on the porch, and I don't want to have to keep running an extension cord every time, but I do solder for long periods at a time.
It's a good long while. The iron consumes about 60 watts when it's actually heating. A typical 5" battery is about 22 Wh, so in theory you would get about 20 minutes of actual on time. But in reality, the iron is only heating a small fraction of the time, and personally I have never run down a flight pack over the course of an afternoon.
@@JoshuaBardwell - Thank you so much for the reply!!! Is that an afternoon of nonstop soldering, like about 3-4 hours or more?
Does it have a lipo cut-off?
How come Joshua Bardwell is the ONLY one out here teaching me things‽‽‽‽
do you have a video or someonewho could telll me how to put a split mini or turtle to a 2020stck?
the ds60 still costs 50-60 bucks in my part of the world. maybe in a few weeks the price comes down a bit.
Are these still good?
For sure! Very good.
FYI it is currently on sale at a ridiculous price on BG..
In other words where do I find the firmware?
Can you mod the 6dbi antenna for the Qx7?
