It doesn't matter what kind of music you are into. Anyone that hears Angelina Jordan sing has to recognize and respect the special. I am a lifelong metal and hiphop fan (since the beginnings of both genres), and I can't get enough of Angelina. There are certain artists that come along just a few times in a lifetime, and she is one of those. She was born with a gift for not just understanding music, but understanding the meaning of music. It's not just that she can sing well, it's that she knows how it _should_ be sung... and she's been doing it like that since she was 7. She may not fit the mold of your channel, but I think anyone that loves music will appreciate a little Angelina on the channel every once in a while ;) I hope to see you check out more from time to time.
..and for anyone wanting more on the barefoot story...
*Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage n the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.

I really enjoyed your reaction to Angelina Jordan. She is the most versatile vocal artist I have ever heard. She has mastered nearly every genre of music. The only ones she hasn't covered, so far, is opera & rap, but who knows what the future holds for her. She has covered over 125 songs & has 5 originals, 3 written by her when she was 11-12 & 2 written for her. Her gift to the world of music is to dig up old classic songs from the dustbins of music history & reinterpret them for a new generation of music lovers. She has been doing her own arrangements since she was 7 & probably earlier. Every song she sings, she uses a different voice to match that song. If you listened to her vast library of songs while blindfolded, you would think there are many different singers singing the songs. If you want to hear more of her smooth, velvet voice I recommend A Million Years Ago, California Dreamin or Stay. If you want to hear her blow your socks off with her power voice, check out her It's A Man's World, The Show Must Go On or I Have Nothing. If you want to hear her continuous riffs & runs, try her Unchained Melody when she was 11 or 12 for a Master Class in melismatic singing. Whatever she sings is liquid gold. About the story: She was traveling in another country at age 6 and met a child selling “weighing” on the street with no shoes on. She stopped and talked to her and gave her the shoes she was wearing. She said at the time that she would never wear shoes while performing until all the children in the world had shoes. This is an example of her character since she is still being true to her six-year-old declaration.

After she met the little girl who had no shoes (Angelina was 6 at the time), she vowed to never wear shoes again when she performs until all the children in the world have shoes. Angelina wrote a book about the experience called Mellom to jherter (“Between two hearts”), which was published in 2015 when Angelina was 9 years old.

OMeezy, thank you for your insightful reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are someone who understands the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I hold Ella Fitzgerald as the gold standard for embellishments, riffs, runs, whatever you want to call them. She would not only emulate the improvisation of the great instrumentalists of her day, she created her own style that set her apart from everyone else. She always stayed within the changes of the music and never did too much or too little, just the right amount. So many of today's singers do "vocal gymnastics" without really understanding the musicality that is required to be artistic. Through sheer innate ability, Angelina "gets it" and we, her audience, are immensely fortunate to listen to her artistry. I like to think of her as the Barbra Streisand of the 21st century. Not because their voices are alike, but because Angelina could be as much or more of a superstar than Barbra was in her prime.

I still remember that I was shocked in a positive way, and I have ever since that time been a fan. A fan of a child. I wouldn't believed it if you had asked me 10 years ago.
I have never been interested in the jazz music genre , but Angelina's interpretations of old jazz music classics has "opened my eyes" for that kind of music for sure, and in a way "touched me".
In the past year she has posted some great covers of modern music as well.

Another artist I wouldn't know about if it weren't for your channel. I had tears rolling down my cheeks listening to this; I love Elton John's older music, and this song is one of my favorites. As creative and unique AJ is, most of those experiencing her are learning as well in the process. Not often you you get that from a 14-year old (and she's been doing it from the age of Seven)

Music is there a national all types But when it’s good it’s just good I like some rap I like pop R&B jazz raised in the 60s and 70s Connie Francis Bobby Riddell the platters drifters but music involved great singers came out and ours are now like Angelina Jordan and others really good Angelina her voice captivating I called her magic
Angelina sings it accompanied by beautifully but minimalistically played grand piano. I then listen to one version by Elton John (singing and playing piano, with his band of el guitar, el bass and drums, and the musicians also singing the chorus), and my reaction was that it sounded thin. I then listened to another recording by Elton John with the same set up but which sounded better, and my reaction was that it sounded plain compared to Angelia and one grand piano. Her voice and vocal artistry is magic!

Angelina is not a young singer, she is a vocal artist. At the 5:25 mark, after the phrase Back to the howling old owl in the woods, at 5:35, she mimicks the sound of the owl and finishes by pronouncing slightly the word owl at 5:38-39. She does more than singing, she feels the songs and convey to you her emotions. Full circle!

MargaretAnn Stewart I agree with everything you said about Angelina. As for OMeezy expanding his horizons, musical preference is about connecting with what speaks to you most directly. You can be totally invested in one genre and still respect and recognize the value and brilliance in others. If you listen to musicians talk about other musicians or other genres you will notice that one of the key common characteristics of the truly great artists is that they don’t disrespect other artists or genres. This is why Angelina counts Quincy Jones, David Forster, Gene Simmons, Avicii, Alan Walker and and the surviving members of Queen among her fans. OMeezy obviously isn’t too hung up on boundaries since he did the reaction, loves Angelina and stated that he would love to work with her. I think his horizons already cover a lot of territory.
