- For today's episode of The Game Maker's Notebook I sit down with one of the stars of game music, Gareth Coker (known for the ORI games, ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED, DARKSIDERS GENESIS and many, many others). We talk at length about everything from childhood, to jazz, lots of Ori and frankly everything else ever.
This podcast was created by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (who also give out the DICE Awards) and can be heard / subscribed to here:

Omg my 2 favorite composers together!
Gareth is a true legend! Had the honor to meet him once at gamescoma few years ago. His work for Ori & the Will of the Wisps is outstanding, really excited to see where his journey goes next, may it be more games or movies/series.
Thanks for sharing the interview, Austin!
One legend interviews another, amazing
The Game Maker's Notebook with you talking to people is my favourite podcast right now, it's a delight to listen to these conversations! I especially enjoy the parts about the process of writing and producing the music!
Thanks man! :)
Gareth did such an amazing job on the soundtrack for Halo infinite! When I learned that he was going to be doing the music for Infinite I was pleasantly surprised. The ost of Ark Survival Evolved was amazing. One track in particular that always stood out to me was the main menu music for the aberration DLC.
After having already heard that amazing piece of music I knew that halo fans would be in for something special. And after completing the game I can gladly say it was. The soundtrack is tremendously good!
2 of my biggest inspirations just casually talking? Yes thank you I’ll take it
Thank you ! Always refreshing to catch up on the channel...
The depth of this composer-to-composer interview is amazing and the stories are so interesting. It really drives the discussion on a high level about the film and game music industry, how the musical approach evolves over time, the pivot of inspirations' bloom and the significance of life experience to musical growth. The determination and patience of a composer is truly admirable. Take the chance, do your best, you never know :) Thanks for sharing. I look forward to next in interview series.
Thank you so much! If you haven't seen the others I've posted here, check the "Podcast" playlist. You can also go to interactive(.)org and look at all the past episodes of the Game Maker's Notebook; I tend to post them here several months after they go live there!
@@awintory thanks a lot, I actually didn't know! I'll definitely check them out.
Two brilliant composers, who are in my playlist everyday, I'm so happy to hear them!!❤❤❤
LOVED that story about the special thanks in the end credits! I always sit through the end credits (I just love the experience, for reasons I can't really put into words) - I caught your name at the end of Blind Forest and went "huh, nice!" Pretty funny to know I wasn't the only one :P
I had never heard any of gareth’s work prior to the announcement that he would be working on Halo: Infinite, and wow. I am so excited for this guy to be a part of the franchise. The first few tracks they’ve released so far have been beautiful.
Oh my gosh, loving y'all's energy!! It's so fun when the two of you get so enthusiastic then reel yourselves in 😂 thank you both for this, it's great
I just randomly decided to check out your channel when I heard the Volibear theme. I didn't expect to find this here, and I'm happy I did! This was a great podcast
Thank you so much! :)
Wonderful to start listening to these. 🤓
it's like Bethoven interviewing Mozart, awesome
And I can't wait to hear his work on Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope with Grant Kirkhope and Yoko Shimomura, a great collab of a lifetime!
flashygoodness even remixed the Ori themes in a medley for Rivals of Aether, which is one of my all time favourite games alongside Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Breath of the Wild and Bayonetta, all of which are also my favourite game soundtracks.
woaah, gareth and you are mein inspiration :')
Makes me feel better hearing Gareth say he didn’t know where the score was heading with Ori even after being so far in 😂
1:08:37 Lol that got me offward
is this an apotheosis moment?
