Leonard Cohen is a unique musical genius and his poetry is exceptional
I miss him but at least we still have his music, and he's still alive in our hearts and minds.
First time I heard this song it made me cry... This never happened to me before. It was when my father was diagnosed with cancer, so a very painful period in my life. Before he died I felt the need to listen to it and it has been with me ever since as a soothing medicine for my soul.

Leonard Cohen was unique insofar as he touched the painful spots in our lives and helped us live with them, even to heal them.

This song is insanely underrated. Deserves to be one of his most well-known classics. When I first heard it I was thinking it must have been from his album The Future. The sound, the ambience is kind of similar.
NOTHING Leonard Cohen does is underrated by me. I know every lyric to every song he ever wrote except some unreleased ones. I feel like I know his very soul. From his youth to his death.

Fortunately I discovered LC when I was wondering through Manchester centre one afternoon back in ¹978, I had heard Suzanne at my mates older brothers house, remembering this song and his name I saw a portrait of his face on cover of album, Recent Songs, excited I ran for the bus which stopped outside Virgin records store just after paying for it. strangely, I remember almost every minute of that hour long journey home reading everything I could on album. Jumping off bus I ran all the way home bursting through door over to the 'radiogram' wooden cabinet and put it on, sat there for perhaps two, three hours playing album over and over again, I thought I had found a clue to the illuminati, a secret, poetical message passed down through the centuries, finding its way to me, one of the chosen ones, vividly I remember thinking I had this burden I could not ignore. I slowly introduced this knowledge bestowed upon me to as many people as I could, soon realised that it was not to every ones tast so arrogantly as a 17 year old that I was simply dismissed. those who could not hear, or worse, pitted those who repeated that old mantra, he is depressing! Now, at 55, I, still carrying that torch, carrying on my idle duty to spread the centuries old message of self less love . And I can not deny abuse of this power and used it selfishly to invite ladies to fall in love with LC. then kidnap there Sweetness's form own youthful sender.
The name at the top of that paragraph is not the author of it, whomever they are shall remain anonymous but to those who recognise such a person they may have spent time with! LC is an experience that one rarely forgets.
With him we want to create poetry sad that nobody listen, could've been nice to have him as teacher.

Does anyone know who is (were) the back round singers? I am just listening to the album and can't find it anywhere.
Liner notes state Sharon Robinson and the Webb sisters sing background on the "Amen" track.
On fastcompany.com, it says Sharon Robinson is singing the "ooh-ooohs" and the harmonies on the word "Amen" in the chorus.
In the live performance videos, I believe Sharon Robinson can occasionally be seen performing the high pitch harmonies heard in the verses and the "Amen" chorus.
