Thank you for another detailed video that helps me fix my R250. My radio gets MW and LW but I can't get FM. I have watched lots of your videos but can't tell why this is. Great videos though they really helped with crackling issues and I made up a battery by following your instructions... thank you
Another Nice Radio Saved From Landfill And Great Video As Always Paul, Bet You Could Do a R250 in Your Sleep !! That Molotov Liquid Chrome Pen Is Superb Thanks For Uploading Regards mike
Thank you for another great video. Not boring at all. Quite informative. I'd really enjoy seeing you work on the R250s that came here to the U.S by C.Crane. Mine has a continuously lighted dial. The case doesn't have those side boards. I'm assuming that the chassis is the same but who knows? it has a very warm sound big sound for such a small speaker, and its the most sensitive radio I own...and I own many vintage tube and transistor sets. I really love the R250.
Smashing repair :-D For some odd reason i expected to see a turntable on the bottom. i repaired an old roberts for a mate years ago ( Cracked pcb, the radio not the frend :-D ), that one had a novel turntable. The word i had for that radio was Weeeeeeeeeee :-D Odd how memory plays games with details lol.
Have you ever tried any thing to reverse that dial fade, out of interest? Good stuff anyway. I've searched everywhere for the 1DIOT diode and none of the main sellers stock it so I use the 1MAF00L in my sets.
I have had 3 Roberts radios with the dial cord cross over problem ( I have only been doing Roberts radios for 4 weeks or so). I don't really know why it happens but after a lot of manipulation and cleaning of the spindle with IPA, 2 of them eventually worked properly. The other one had hardly any tension on the spring so I unhooked it and pulled the cord through a bit more but it was still crossing over, I cleaned the spindle on this one and eventually it wound as it should, but then I had to re-set the dial marker. So I have come to the conclusion that the spindle needs cleaning and or the spring needs re-tensioning when it happens.
Thanks Chris - Often the cord crossover is caused by the spindle height. The spindle can move up, or down (it shouldn't!). It can be moved either way by tapping to find the sweet spot without cord cross over..
I have just purchased a Robert R250 but its not working, connected it to a 9V supply and I hear a beat noise. Is there anyway I could send you a clip of the fault and you could recommend what potentially could be the issue?
I love the retro sellotape and blue-tack fixes. Those pens work well for the badges. All in all a nice job and yet another R250 saved

Wonder if that pen would work on my Sony TR6400? The chrome on the speaker grille is mostly worn away

Are those knobs correct? I'm sure they are but mines got shiny bits on the top?
Oh no.. a bwown wobwerts wadio. what was the dial cord issue or did I miss that bit? looks pretty enough now even if it is bwown...
A description at 18 24 for the dial cord.
