As someone who got into the comics after watching the original two, this makes me very sad... kinda hoped this would lead to some sort of small scale Mignolaverse.
Damn I actually liked it, I thought it was a more depressive change of pace from the Del Toro movies in a way. Though I did make the EXACT same comparison to Buckaroo Banzai, I just didn't see that as necessarily a knock on the film as much as a knock on its overall accessibility to general audiences. The way I saw it was more like a live-action bigger budget version of one of those direct-to-video animated comicbook movies
I'll admit I didn't like the Hellboy/Liz romance from the Del Toro version, but Del Toro knows his monster movies, and it sounds like this version didn't share his enthusiasm. I watched the behind the scenes features, and he was in his element, this was his jam.
Shame this turned out to be terrible. I don't have any attachment to the Hellboy property but I was kinda hoping this thing would be good just because Daniel Dae Kim's in it and I think he should be in more things just in general
I really wish we could get your and a few other people's reviews of movies about a month before the movie comes out... It would help save me money on tickets. Oh well, maybe I'll like something about it anyway. It's happened before.
I gotta admit, even though I wanted Hellboy three just as much as anyone, this failure really upset me. I was rooting for every single person on this team. The director was good, the writers were good, the actors were good. And then the execs decided to stick their noses into this.
Honestly, I am not hearing anything too terrible, an uninspired script a reason not to rush out to see it, not a reason to avoid it like the plague. Still I only have so much money to spend on luxuries after tax season so gonna wait for this one to come out on Netflix.
Yeah the trailers for this movie telegraphed that it would be a mess and I can't get over the prosthetics and make-up on Hellboy that somehow look really uncanny and unsettling
Now I am curious if I'd hate this movie more than Hellboy 2. I gather Bob doesn't agree, but when complimenting the old movies I really feel that should be singular. The second movie's plot was a complete disaster, with the central conflict being a race between who can screw over his own chances of success the hardest, and its big theme lifted from the X-men movies about saving a world that doesn't accept the heroes that Bob said he was so sick of, but done much worse. I don't know if a third movie would've salvaged anything from that trainwreck, but I highly doubt it.
I hold no grudge against David Harbour for this. He's done other work which is outstanding and no-one had a 100% perfect track record. Now, this is the perfect time to right a huge wrong and greenlight Hellboy 3.
I watched this a few days a go. I had a blast. It was a lot of fun in the beginning and middle, slowed down at bit near the end but definitely a worthwhile experience. There is easily a lot of movies that a way worse then this one. Like Assasination Nation.
Whoever edited this movie should go to the same summer school remedial editing course as the Fantastic Four (2015) movie staff should have attended. This movie was more choppy than all the waves in The Perfect Storm. That being said I was entertained (admittedly partially due to my "bargain-priced" $9 ticket cost), but I cannot recommend this film at "retail-price". Sad, there wasn't even a Ron Perlman cameo.
I was hugely underwhelmed by the trailer. I was hoping this was Solo situation where the resulting film was far better than the advertising made it out to be but it looks like that is not to be.

As someone who got into the comics after watching the original two, this makes me very sad... kinda hoped this would lead to some sort of small scale Mignolaverse.
With any luck they'll do what devil may cry did and just go back and make hellboy 3 anyway (I'll still rent this one later tho)
I think your tweet summed it up, wonderfully. A shitty retreating of del toro films trying to be a shitty imitation of James Gunn films.
So if they can manage a run time over , what 30 min, they automatically get 1 star? Its a 3 star rating scale then? Do you ever go < 1 star??
Damn he said Mortal Kombat Annihilation...
The stallone judge dred or the crow sequels... OUCH!
Eh. I liked the movie. Had a lot of fun with it. Its basically the Doom video game, doesn't exist beyond guitar riffs and violence. Works for me.
I'm sorry did you say there were Crow sequels?
3:12 Are they even _trying_ to convince us that that's not a miniature model?
Damn
I actually liked it, I thought it was a more depressive change of pace from the Del Toro movies in a way.
After Selma Blair's diagnosis, I don't think I can ever muster up the nerve for Hellboy in movies ever again...
Oh dear, what happened?
@@ChristianNeihart she has MS
36 likes and NO dislikes yet. Is there a comic of del Toro's 3rd movie? I need it real bad right now.
apollion888
There going to be one but it didn’t happen
I'll admit I didn't like the Hellboy/Liz romance from the Del Toro version, but Del Toro knows his monster movies, and it sounds like this version didn't share his enthusiasm. I watched the behind the scenes features, and he was in his element, this was his jam.
Shame this turned out to be terrible. I don't have any attachment to the Hellboy property but I was kinda hoping this thing would be good just because Daniel Dae Kim's in it and I think he should be in more things just in general
I kind of liked those Hellboy movies. Definitely underrated. How does this movie compare?
I really wish we could get your and a few other people's reviews of movies about a month before the movie comes out... It would help save me money on tickets. Oh well, maybe I'll like something about it anyway. It's happened before.
what a shame I wanted this to be good oh well
TheCreepypro You can still see it and judge for yourself if you like it or not. I certainly don’t take Bob’s reviews as gospel.
Live action manbearpig? Way to bury the lead
Just manpig.
You need to trim the end of this video. There is 1 minutes 45 seconds of black screen starting at 4:58
I gotta admit, even though I wanted Hellboy three just as much as anyone, this failure really upset me. I was rooting for every single person on this team. The director was good, the writers were good, the actors were good. And then the execs decided to stick their noses into this.
Hellboy:The Netflix Chronicles (2022)
Honestly, I am not hearing anything too terrible, an uninspired script a reason not to rush out to see it, not a reason to avoid it like the plague. Still I only have so much money to spend on luxuries after tax season so gonna wait for this one to come out on Netflix.
I mean I'm still curious but thanks for the heads up
Yeah the trailers for this movie telegraphed that it would be a mess and I can't get over the prosthetics and make-up on Hellboy that somehow look really uncanny and unsettling
2 minutes of nothing at the end, homie.
are you certain that you wouldnt enjoy it more if it had an easy mode?
You don't need to tell me twice, Robert.
Who else got a trailer of this movie before the video?
Good analysis, but please slow a bit. Less monotone too.
I love Hellboy II. Guillermo del Toro's creature work is top-notch.
I hold no grudge against David Harbour for this. He's done other work which is outstanding and no-one had a 100% perfect track record. Now, this is the perfect time to right a huge wrong and greenlight Hellboy 3.
You think he might do better under more Marvel-ous guidance? Disney kind of needs an orange rock monster.
I thought the same thing, Ala Ghostbusters but most likely the studio is just gonna think, "Welp, Hellboy movies are proven bombs".
Wasn't sold on this flick anyway, but won tickets so I will be seeing it... just won't be paying to do so.
Me: Yeah. That's what I thought.
Review: Lobster Johnson...
Me: Holy F-Balls! Shut up and take my money!
Yes. I am everything wrong with fandom.
Dear Bob, Please review 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote'.
I was hugely underwhelmed by the trailer. I was hoping this was Solo situation where the resulting film was far better than the advertising made it out to be but it looks like that is not to be.
I like the black screen ending cuz it dosent immedeatly auto plan an ad.
Next to pet cemetary, I couldn't wait til the movie was over..
Bryan Trice should be out today on RUclips. Is already on Escapist
@@Kroododile553 both were bad. I saw hellboy last night. Only 2 good parts in the movie and they only looked good cause they showed homage to the comic.
Bryan Trice I kinda liked the new Pet Semetary. Much better than the original adaptation
