We’re still in two domestic cups, we’re in position to get a European spot next season. We have to keep players of quality like Barnes as we’ll need the squad depth to deal with the increase in games. All the biggest clubs have quality players on their benches that would get into most starting line ups in other sides. We have to be like that too.
Selling Barnes would be an absolute disaster of a decision. left wing is the only spot where we have excellent depth, if gordons hurt we have another class winger. Selling him is pure pure regression. Its easy to say these things when we dont have european football, but when the squad starts playing more, players like barnes are a necessity.
We’ve been quite fortunate so far with injuries (still remember the calamity of last season and its endless injury crisis). However, I think that the ‘highly tuned engines’ that are modern, elite footballers there’s always the danger of stress/fatigue injury.
Miley a 6???? 😂😮 Not a chance my friends. Watch his game, movements skilset etc + the instincts to score the 2 or 3 goals he's got so far for NUFC Dude's either an 8, 10 or even 4? He's a PLAYMAKING ATTACKING MIDFIELDER 💯% Anywhere else would be same as what was being done to our Bruno G/Sandro T until the penny dropped for EH and his team. Quit trying to force square pegs into round holes ir else
i can’t believe a player can get to the level barnes has and doesn’t want to run his socks off it’s absolutely obvious why he doesn’t get game time he doesn’t work hard enough and he doesn’t cause enough problems when he has the ball he has quality but lacking in other areas
I think Keith Downie is his dad. He's clearly not watching the same player. In the Arsenal game, and to an extent the FA Cup, he was running in treacle. He's lazy, but talented.
Howe doesn’t want Barnes to track back . He’s an attacker with minimal pace so he needs him higher up the pitch for the counter . He needs to stay . I can’t think of a better winger to come off our bench
Rodri is a good comparison for Miley. Just imagine how good he will be at 22-23!!!! The academy gets a big well done and no better developer of talent than Eddie and his team.
Great video Keith & technically you're correct but depending on how you count things, the record differs. Keegan won 11 league games in a row at the start of 92/93. If you include other games there were 2 draws in the 4 League Cup matches & 1 draw out of 2 Anglo Italian games during that period. The problem is, as with the weekend, squad players were rotated in so arguably the 11 in a row is the best stat. Let's just hope that we keep winning & make it 12 League games in a row at Anfield next month 😀
We MUST keep hold of lewis miley. He's going to be a central part of this team going forward. We are starting to build a really nice age profile to our squad but keeping hold of these academy products that eddie & his team along with the acadeny staff develop is key for me rather than selling them to 'balance the books' one season only to have to shell out more than we make a season or so later to buy in players of similar quality. Miley will be a top tier player for us, i'm sure of it. IF the suits allow eddie to keep hold of him. Cheers keith.
Another injury to a winger…we have to push to sell a player or two this window and bring in some new quality that will allow us to push this second half of the season and not struggle
Who could we sell that we’d be happy selling and who would generate enough money to strengthen? On top of that you have to find a team who would pay your asking price and the player would need to be willing to leave, considering the wages our players are on and the fees we’d want that’s not easy. We’d probably need to sell 3 players to buy a single new player, do we risk weakening 3 separate positions to bring in a single player?
@ you’re assuming we have zero money to spend. No-one knows and Eddie certainly isn’t going to come out and say we have money because of the Crystal Palace rubbish over Guehi. I say wait and see
@@DaveasrSo why weaken the squad if we already have money to spend? You’re correct that nobody knows the financial situation. Journalists have made plenty of claims but nobody knows the case. It’s claimed Guehi wasn’t nearly as much as was reported and if we had done that deal we’d have had to sell to cover PSR. Anyone we sold we’d need to replace, I doubt we could sell and replace more than a single player this window. I’d love the club to surprise us but I think we’re going to be disappointed.
Anyone who doesn’t think this is a blow is mad. This day and age, often play 110 minutes, 3 competitions, it is vital we have players to come off the bench to change games and rotate . This significantly weakens us.
Perhaps you should ask Paul Mitchell why we were not in for Malen. In fact, ask him what the hell he has been doing since joining the club, cos I see absolutely nothing.
Let’s go for James Mcatee (what a player for our right wing/back up CM) and James Trafford and a back up striker for Isak on loan or DCL is cheap and not injury prone anymore
Keith - sounds like you already had an agenda to just the half time substitution to say Barnes is surplus to requirements. He was injured. He is a good squad player wuth that unique quality of being a supersub. We should not sell.
What a load of nonsense. It’s a squad game and we need two players in each position. Barnes will play his part eventually and he’ll be training hard trying to impress. He’s not going anywhere
ASM was mercurial a different type.. Luxury on that Left..Did not have the LB overlap help to MAXI-mizw the position Gordons better with HAll then MAxi was with the Dutch loan or Danny Rose..The step up on tracking back is a managers dream on the press thats the effort Miggy or JAke give..But we need a Scorign threat to step up Livermentos game to match the left.
Probably, it would have been a risk given what’s at stake to sell Miggy without replacing him. With Barnes injured it would be silly to sell Miggy without another winger coming in.

@@markyNUFC80 I wouldn’t have been so negative but DanielCordone is a well known troll on Newcastle RUclips channels, I just dismiss his opinion as soon as I see him now. Miggy has been a good servant but it’s time for him to move on.
Barnes is a good player but doesn’t fit Eddie’s style as pressing is not his strength, and we function so much better when the entire front 6 hunts as a pack. Therefore he’s likely to remain an impact sub. Never thought he would go this window but in the summer if a strong enough bid came in I would consider it.
I can only assume you would never be able to distinguish true meaningful quality from unproductive ‘dazzle’. ASM flattered to deceive. Gordon delivers most weeks for the team. He is a mile ahead of ASM as a footballer.
