This was positively the clearest and simplest, most effective oil change video I’ve seen. Especially good for beginners. Thank you so much for letting us know the socket sizes as well.
My dealer wanted $600 for the first 300 mile service (that's including a 20% discount). I decide to do the oil change myself, and I'm glad I did it.. The dealer doesn't use good oil, and I don't have control over it. I got Motul 300V 15w-50, and after the change, the engine ran so smooth. Gear change was noticeably smoother as well. The process was a breeze. Bought the filter off amazon for $12 and the oil was about $66. Just need a wrench; very straightforward process. Now I will watch youtube to understand how to check the tappet. Save myself a ton of money.
Doesnt the manual suggest semi synthetic oil? Motul 300V 15w-50 is fully synthetic (Im a noobie so dont know what Im actually talking about) - does it matter??
If you change the oil with the machine on its side stand, there is no need to make a funnel out of foil, it will drain straight into a pan without touching the frame or exhaust. Doing it this way also allows more oil to drain. This is the method RE says you should do in the owner's handbook.
Thanks for this! I just bought a 2023 Himalayan and my dealer wants $764 for the 300 mile service. I typically do all my own work on my bikes but didn't want to lose my 3 year warranty. (Learned I just have to keep receipts and photos of servicing the bike) Figured instead of getting taken with no lube I'd do it all myself and its always helpful seeing a video before I dive in.
Thank you for the video, it was great and demonstrative. I was perplexed why the owners manual spec'd 2L for the first fill and 1.6-1.8L on subsequent changes until I watched this. Funky bike is certainly funky but it is quite fun to ride!
The image at 0:21 shows replacement of oil at 6000 miles. At 3000 miles it indicates "inspect". I'm all for changing the oil ahead of recommended intervals but not at the halfway mark.
I would definitely check my oil a lot more than 3k mikes. These bikes are great but they like most single cylinder bikes tend to burn oil especially if the rider runs them at higher revs.
THANK YOU! I didn't do the tin foil trick on my last change, which is a solid head smack on my side. BTW what after market shifter and pegs do you have on that bike: They look great.
The shifter is the Tusk Folding Shift Lever: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-folding-shift-lever-p The pegs came from a KTM 390 Adventure bike. They fit the Himalayan but sit at an angle.
We didn't use a torque wrench in this video. But you can get a quality torque wrench at your local hardware store like Lowe's, Home Depot or Harbor Freight.
You do not need to soak the new filter in oil before installing but it certainly won't hurt to do so. Unfortunately, we do not have a location outside of the U.S., but you can order from our website. Thanks for watching the video. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/
After my first paid service engine oil change i could see the oil level is above the max indicator on this window, in fact the entire window is filled. Is over filling the oil an issue to be taken care?
Be sure to check your oil when it is warm and on the side stand. It's what the manual indicates. When it's off the stand and on two wheels it appears the oil level is higher than it would be on.
How do you do the normal Check of the oil Level? The manual is very unspecific. I always ride 3 to 5 min, turn the engine off and let the Bike Rest for 3 min on the main stand. Than i Check the oil level

Awesome job doing the work yourself! 👍 Glad the video helped.

Perfect!! Thanks guys, I'm doing my first oil change next week! got the parts already, but I need to get a few more items, so I'll be calling!

You're welcome! Glad it was helpful. Hope you are enjoying your new Himalayan!
Just changed my oil yesterday. It really is this simple ✅ thank you!
You're welcome! Nice work 👍

I couldn't figure out the difference in oil levels either. I always thought too much oil was bad.

Just bought a '23 Himalayan yesterday and I'm excited to see what you guys can offer. Your website doesn't have a drop down bike option for it yet.
Correction- just tried the year '22 and found it. Thank you for covering this amazing bike!
Woah thats a good looking bike!
Yeah, not bad for what it's been through!!
I’m assuming this will work for the Scram as well?
Yes, it will be the same for the Scram.
Thank you
Hello what torque wrench did you set when tightening the screws? I dont want to relay on gut feeling

Hi, thanks for posting this video it was easy to follow and a great help. Andy (from Norfolk in the Uk)
Glad you found our video helpful. Thank you for your views and feedback!
Good video, do you needs to soak the new filler in oil first? Do you have a dealer in Australia or just get stuff from your website, cheers

Thanks and looks good
Thanks! Where can I get that Tusk shifter for the Himalayan? I don’t see it on your website.
The shift levers will be available soon!
Awesome, thanks

Most of the time it's not a big deal to have a little extra oil in there but if it's very overfilled, you could have some problems.
@@rmatvmcAre you able to provide symptoms of "some problems"?

That would be the correct way to check your oil level. Thanks for the question!
I leaned my bike on both sides while draining old oil. And I fill 2 ltrs of oil. Is this good for engine?
Did you check the oil level sight glass after running the bike, letting it warm up, then shutting it off?
I want a tall seat like that! Is it custom made?
Seat concepts
Which foot pegs are these?
These foot pegs are from a KTM 390 adventure. They fit on the Himalayan but sit at a slight angle.
Thank you, also the video was very easy to understand. Thanks for that !
@@angelbeato03 No problem! Thank you for watching.
Why take off tbe cover and not just remove the drain plug?
You want to make sure that you don't have any metal shavings or build-up on the screen inside.
Oil draining music tinkling away in the background
there is another drain plug not only that one
Where is it?
