Speaking of such, I don't see a lot of people bringing up Initial D Special Stage. Yeah it was a bit of a downgrade graphics-wise, but it added a story mode (First Stage to the race against Bunta's WRX), additional music, more stages (Shin Myogi, Shin Usui, and Shomaru to name a few), and fixed the overpowered Integra (although this subsequently made the Integra one of the worst cars in the game, and it still is such as far as Arcade Stage 8's tier list is leading me to believe).

what about Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero they were highly unrated I out more hours into that than any of these games mention it wasn't a AAA title but you really saw the heart and dedication put into this game detailed Tokyo highways and a ton of racing clubs and Bosses to face

Hell yeah. I have a precaution that Genki will make another one in the PS5. So we can enjoy cruising in the Wangan in high graphics and keep the original soundtracks, the crazy customization and add new cars. Sorry if my english are to difficult to read :c. I'm waiting.........

It's amazing to think that GT3 was probably the best game on the system and it was a launch title. Polyphony really knew what they were doing.
first ps2 games I played and saw in action were breathtaking in terms of their realism compared to the previous era

NFS HP2 deserves at least a mention. It's simply one of the best racing games on PS2. I'm a sucker for racers that allow you to race sports to prototype race cars at high speeds and thrills in exotic locales! I love it a lot!
For me, burnout revenge is the ultimate bestest racing game for ps2, I got it with my ps2 for christmas and I played the hell out of it

I absolutely loved Choro-Q because not only was it diverse with the stuff you could apply to your vehicle but also the mini missions and the characters that had their own personality and their one time missions which felt unique and different from any other missions. I liked the tracks though because they looked different from every other tracks including the extended tracks that always suprised me so it was a very diverse game and it may not be the most appreciated and beloved game but it was one of the most diverse games of it's time

LA Rush, Test Drive Unlimited, Gran Turismo 4 or Burnout Revenge should have been first. Burnout Revenge especially as it improves again on what 3 was

userful1 Yeah PC was better for Test Drive. It's rare nowadays to see a solid Console to PC port but its common to see a really good PC to Console port. That's why I'm convinced Dirt Rally will go down as one of the best PS4 games because the port from PC was so good
Ayrton Bondzanga TDU1 was weird. it as on PS2 and PSP. Besides the visuals the PSP version was EXACTLY the same as the PS2 version. Oddly, it was the same on Xbox 360 as PC, but never saw a PS3 release.

Also, additional mentions to the Shutoko Battle games (TXR Zero and 3), Juiced 1, and Nascar Thunder 2004 (06 comes a close second for me IMO).
initial d series suck the handling is soooo bad and arcade and the levels are so boring
I'm guessing you just suck at it then. Arcade racers typically tend to be more difficult for some people.

I feel like two games that everyone that's ever considered themselves a gamer has played at some point are either NFS Underground 2 or Most Wanted. And anyone remember a little game called Road Trip Adventure?

Need for Speed Underground 2 - (Back in that day I was a proud ricer)
Test Drive: Unlimited - (Super cars, huge map, great driving experience)
WRC Evolved - ( Best rally game ever made)
ToCa Race Driver 3 - (Formula 1, Nascar, Monster trucks, GT's, touring cars, Classics, what do you need more? )
Gran Turismo 4 - (The best simulator at the time... its was the game that changed my life as a kid... Its crazy how impressive that game still looks and feels!)
This list is pretty accurate. I’d say Burnout 3 is my Number 1. But, I have a hidden gem I’d like to mention: Wild Wild Racing. Like GT3, it was a launch title for the PS2. Although unlike GT3, WWR takes on an arcade like look and is more zany. WWR is a SUPER hard game and is recommended for those who want a challenge
For me FlatOut 2 is the absolute best!

I f*cking agree!! Burnout 3 Takedown had the best music from 2004, and it's physics were ace at the time and I am so with you on this one that Burnout 3 takedown is THE best racing/takedown/explode your car kind of a game that has ever been invented!! It was a BIG part of my childhood too!!
the fact that you put burnout 3 as number 1 made me smile bigger than i ever have, burnout 3 is my favorite game of all time, i have over a month and a half played on destiny, and i think i still have more time spent on burnout 3, honestly i dont think ive ever played and loved a game as much as i loved byrnout 3 as a kid
This list resume almost all my favorites from ps2 era. The exception was MicroMachines that I didn't play it, and maybe I miss FlatOut 2 that was very fun with all these challenges where the pilot is thrown from the car, to hit targets or make larger distances.
Re-watching this video after having tried the Micro Machines games, I have to say that I absolutely hate them. The graphics are cute and I like the idea of racing little cars around a (seemingly) giant world. What kills it for me is that the game comes to a grinding halt every ten f***ing seconds! Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to make a "racing" game where you wait for a countdown, go around a corner and then stop, wait for a countdown, go around a corner and stop, wait for a countdown, go around a corner and then stop...
I want to race, not constantly keep stopping. Seriously, have the people who designed these games ever played a racing game in their life? Or seen a race on TV? Or understand the concept of a car race?
Need for speed carbon is 1 of my most fav games on ps2 back in the days

You can't talk about nfs games without bringing up Carbon and The Underground games.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer series was really underated and the name and japenese style might have made it unattractive for some people it had some of the simulation touch to it with good customization options for cars especially in the later games

well I think its hard to cover all the ps2 games, because there is actually thousands of good games, juiced was good, but the controls and the sound where kinda flimsy, on gt3 I just spent nights playing, then got stuck on like 54% because I was too young to understand how to tune cars for long tracks, flatout2 was just awesome, specially if you just love to smash things, undercover aswell, on ps2 it was very similar to nfs mw, but I was amazed that they even managed to make it work! ps2 era will just never be forgotten, nowadays games got different for all platforms, you buy the game, then you spend like triple the price just to get expansions, on ps2 era those games were called demos... damn I miss those good times
Race Driver 3 (it had title differences worldwide) is by far one of the best racing games, if not the best on the PS2.

But that's more of a PS3 title than PS2
PS2 didn't have any of the DLC, online capability, and lacked the full graphical experience of the PS3 version in comparison.
So, it's not a PS2 game at all, it's more of a "hey some people couldn't afford the PS3 but let's let them play this game|

Ayrton Bondzanga thats all well and good but its not a ps2 game for the simple fact it wasnt meant for the ps2.
hell i barely even support MOST WANTED being on this list because the XBox 360 version had more to offer than the PS2 version.. maybe even the PC version, i dunno.

this may sound wierd, but the driving apects of the fast and the furious tokyo drift game are really fun and enjoyable, and the cars had different feels to it, like weight and torque that really made a difference

Mr. Gimp I like Juiced. The sheer amount of cars was amazing, and the fact that you had to pay for the damage on your cars made it a bit more realistic.
Enthusia was also an incredible game...

Shutokou Battle has Wangan Midnight references in it ! Both series have references from real-time and as well as both mangas ! They are both great ! Kaido Battle 3 is my second favorite game ! First is Shutokou Battle X !

I've played Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2, loved that too! I've also played Shutokou Battle X or Import Tuner Challenge. Liked the gameplay but the whole story lacked something. It's a shame we won't see racing games under Genki.
Nahim Islam I believe that another series MIGHT come out either from Shutokou Battle or Kaido Battle. Genki is active on twitter so that where I am hoping they actually release another game.

Colin Mcrae rally 04 and Richard Burns rally some of the best rally games around until dirt rally came out
Burnout 3, GT3 and NFSMW/U2 were myf avourites and still are - i still play them today (GT and B3 are emulated though)

I really enjoyed Cars the videogame, WRC Rally Evolved, NFS Carbon, NFS Underground 1 & 2 and a few more Rally games but I can’t remember all of they’re names at the moment

Gran Turismo 4 and Rally Envolved are the best PS2 racing games.
Spot on with the number 1 choice. All the Burnout games after that felt stripped down. NFS Most Wanted(Ps2) was 10x better than the new one that came out. The ps2 seemed to have such a wide variety of games compared to the crap we get on PS4. Every category of games had such a huge selection to pick from. I'm glad they're doing this ps2 on ps4 remaster now.

I would also recommend Suzuki TT Superbikes/Suzuki TT Superbikes: Real Road Racing as well as it is almost as good, if not just as good or better, than your suggestion, +mattnova18.
im honestly glad Juiced wasnt on the list. Its still an amazing PS2 title, but all of these games are better. Personally i wouldnt have Burnout 3 on the list either. Kaido Battle 3 (Toyko Xtreme Drift 2 here in the US) is but far the most underrated racing game of all time, and my number 1 with out question. A crap load of cars (JDM icons, Kei cars, real D1 cars, and some Euro icons), amazing customization(honestly probably the best in any racing game ever made. Seriously), hundreds of hours of racing, drifting, Gymkhana before Mr. Block popularized it, tons of super tight Japan Mountain roads, some rally corses, and epic boss battles with incredible cut sceans. Literaly nobody i know has ever played it, but its the only game i will break out the PS2 for. It was, and is a nearly perfect game.

play V8 supercars 3! (I think it's called Toca 3 away from australia), but it's brilliant! best racing game I ever played. still play it to this day.
