The best book I’ve read in relation to the book of revelation. Is a book called “Behold He Cometh” an exposition of the book of Revelation. Written by a Protestant reformed professor named Herman Hoeksema. Brilliant book.
I love pastor Baucham and will continue to be blessed by his preaching, but what he said about preterism was very strange. He said that a fulfilled prophecy has no meaning for us. What other prophecy do we treat this way? Are the prophecies of the Messiah’s birth in Isaiah meaningless after the advent? Are the prophesies of Jesus suffering, death, burial, and resurrection meaningless after they’re fulfilled? Far from it! These prophecies take on a whole new meaning in fulfillment of glory and vindication and bolstering our faith. The view that the events of Revelation are largely in the past shouldn’t bother us any more than Matthew or Mark or Exodus being in the past. These books are still full of glorious and relevant lessons for us. Also, John does not say that he wrote Revelation at the end of the first century under Domitian. That view is largely derived from one grammatically ambiguous saying of one church father nearly 100 years later. If you look at Revelation’s self-attestation you will see it was written while the temple was standing (Rev 11:1) during the reign of the sixth king (Rev 17:10) both of which indicate mid-60s AD.
I think the point that he was getting too was that if what John was writing about was fulfilled in 70AD as preterists teach, then the book has no meaning for us after 70 AD.
As someone that has hearing issues, its very hard to filter out background noises. I wish people would take their fussy babies to the nursery while the sermons are being taped.
I listened to his entire sermon and he never mentioned anything about a future date but he did say DO NOT take The Book Of Revelation literally rather symbolically.
To say there is no reason to take this book literally makes me slightly apprehensive of this teaching. How can anyone say with such gusto that it is only symbolic. If it is only symbolic then is the new heaven and new earth just a concept that will not truly exist? What about the details of new Jerusalem are those not something we will be able to touch because the presentation was purely symbolic? Is the great judgment and the lake of fire purely symbolic? I have a hard time seeing that perspective. There has to be something literal about this book, it is possible for stuff to be simultaneously literal and symbolic.
The Book of Revelation and other books are very confusing to me. I understand the symbolism as saints we must give glory to God and to our savior. That was two thousand years ago, since then we've had plagues that almost wiped out half of the world's population, we've had two world wars and a threat of a third right around the corner. We witnessed nuclear annihilation in Japan and yet I've heard preachers that believe in post-millennialism describe the fall of Jerusalem as the Stars falling from the sky. And what would it be called if a world government is established literally the WORLD not just a region and the fact that they are literally trying to build another temple in Jerusalem? He did say 3 is significant. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Body Soul Spirit, Time, Space and matter, Paul the apostle spoke of a third heaven. I realize the destruction of Jerusalem was a significant point and Jesus spoke about it in Matthew 24. But still Revelation and the book of Isaiah and Daniel when talking about the end times it's still confusing. Yes I know it's symbolic but symbolic of what there has to be something of literal substance behind it. Like for instance Christ was referred to as the lily of the valleys and the everlasting father and Emmanuel and let's not forget the feast Those are symbolic of the very person of Christ. So I ask again all the symbolism what literal happenings does it represent?
@OldEnoughToKnowBetter No it was a resurrection of The godly has not occurred yet. 2 Timothy 2:16-19 One has to be very confused to think that the resurrection has already happened the only one that overcame death was Christ at his resurrection. And the thing with Moses and Elijah that is called the transfiguration.
@OldEnoughToKnowBetter if folks will only pay attention to what the Bible says they could recognize a false teacher or false prophet within the first paragraph of their words.
I love Voddie but have to disagree in avoiding “decoding” Revelations. “But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” And then Voddie proceeds to equate “decoding” with being fearful. Maybe his avoidance is fear? Again, I love Voddie, but rightly dividing the word of truth implies an interpretation, evident even in the book of Revelation. Perhaps, like the disciples, we want it to be a certain way (believing Jesus will free us from Roman rule alone) yet clearly God revealed events preceding his birth, death & resurrection -and in Revelations, Daniel etc. God reveals events preceding his 2nd coming. Actual events. Not only figures & symbols.
We had our children in services, but if they were noisy we carried them out. As infants they had needs that we tended. As they got older they needed to learn that sometimes you need to be quiet. We were always aware of other worshippers and kept the distraction at a minimum.
Rapture isn’t in the Bible. And what’s your point citing that? Yes, that’s the end of the age when Christ comes back. ‘Be with the Lord forever’ that’s heaven, not earth. What’s your point? No one is saying Christ isn’t coming back. When Christ comes back, that’s a wrap.
First time ever that I’ve heard Revelation preached like this…GOD is Awesome! Thank you! 🙏🏼
This is the Gospel that leads to salvation. No prosperity. No foolishness. Thank you Lord for help brining me out of error

Listening online, the screaming children is such a distraction..I wish people would excuse themselves to quiet their children down.
I don't mind the children they're the fortunate ones who escaped the horror of abortion, let their voices be heard!
