Literally the game that keeps on giving. Got 1k hours and I only recently bought the expansions! Expansion content brings even more customization with custom alien races and religions. I uh.. I have to get back to my colony of bug people now
I’m old enough to remember play by mail games that was like original dwarf fortress graphic style but would have to wait a week or more between turns and games could last years
God, I had alt-tabbed to another window, and at 2:15, the red-letter drop alarm made me do a rapid alt-tab back into the youtube video on REFLEX. I'm not even PLAYING the game right now. I should make that sound a message alert for my phone.
"Progress" in rimworld means alot of things. If you mean you dont find uourself progressing tech quickly, you probably only are using a single research table. If you mean expanding a colony can feel slow, well yeah its kind of weird bc you go from 3 guys that kind of stink to like 10 competent workers that build stuff instantly. With over 400hours in the game, most colonies take a good day or 2 of play time before they actually get off the ground and pick up momentum. Id highly suggest finding a good tv show or something to binge watch while you wait for research in the early game. Also dont worry about "beating" the game. Most players you ask in the subreddit will tell you theyve never launched the ship. As someone that has I can personally tell you it was more hassle than actually fun. At the end of the day just have fun building stuff and doing things your way
Yes! The sell screen kills me. Just this morning, I accidentally sold a slave…I meant to acquire one. There’s a mod for that tho. Great game, I’ve got a few hundred hours myself.
Dwarf fortress is great but even in the graphical version the archaic controls really impair it's playability imo and the sheer depth can make it byzantine at times (the learning curve is something of a point of pride in the community, or it used to be at least). Rimworld is very heavily watered down from DF (though in a way that retains the more important parts), but that makes it a lot easier to understand and play and mods allow you to add back almost any level of extra complexity you want, still with the rimworld you understand as a base. DF defined this particular genre/subgenre, but Rimworld really popularized it imo.
The graphics problem is not about sprites. There are similar games that still look gorgeous and fitting. Battle Brothers comes to mind. Rimworld character sprites look like a joke from a South Park episode. It doesn't allow you to fill in the gaps, there's just nothing there to inspire you, no artistic value.
Agreed. There are plenty of examples of beautiful pixel art (e.g., Battle Brothers, Stardew Valley, etc.). Rimworld looks like something my kids drew and some developer animated it.
I think this argument is a little absurd and I respectfully disagree. While there are mods that make the graphics cleaner & more appealing, I don't really mind how it looks. Its a weird subjective thing, but I find it charming, even if I myself have mods to spruce it up.
My favorite game. And there are A LOT of games/franchises i'm crazy about. Rimworld is in a league of its own.

the DLC/Expansion add a ridiculous amount of content - some completely change the game!
People commenting on the look was not there for when dwarf fortress was for free and tried to give you eye cancer. A green T was a tree

Couple weeks ago i had to start new colony aswell :D Such great game
Absolutely an awesome game definitely worth playing
Idk why but this video won't play past 1:29 matter what I do, I even wiped the data.
It was far too complicated and difficult to learn for my taste. At the outset, two of three colonists started vomiting and I had no idea what to do
Great video, there’s one thing tho I never got into rimworld because it feels like I hit wall and can’t progress any further, do you got advice
I've never finished the game --- always end up just playing it as a city builder lol --- my advice would be use caravans often - I usually dont :(

Im approaching 500 hours with no dlc, and its still just a joy to play.
You can easily play for 3000 hours and still have so much fun
Yeah I was literally thinking the same thing as the dwarf fortress nod in the beginning lol but rimworld is good too
I still need to put in 100-200 more hours into dwarf fortress before I make a video about it lol

Man I wish they would spend some of that money they're making on better art. Art quality is very important to me!
