Very true about rock cairns. However, this applies only to the river. If you're the trail in high altitude locations, they are likely trail markers

I usually don’t touch the ones up high in the mountains unless they’re far from a river or stream, but most people that are fly fishing don’t make it that high into the mountains. Good point though
