Bringing Forrest onto this channel was the best thing the ACA has ever done
Forrest? Not even close. He's just another of the lost & clueless (atheists). I've destroyed all atheist ideas (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution) and it was easy. NONE OF THAT garbage has ever been observed or even proved to be POSSIBLE. I just proved that atheism = delusion/mental illness.

I disagree. At 5:27 - Jim is doing the right thing by making the dishonest caller answer questions. Forrest hands the dishonest caller a free pass at every turn. Frustrating. You can't let dishonest people get away with this.

It will never fail to amaze me how Forrest can offer a simple, well worded, complete explanation of a biological process and a caller will go silent for thirty seconds, then counter with "Yeah, but Jebus though."
You know they truly have nothing to say when their only response is "We will all meet jesus/come to be judged one day"

Well, honestly.... Don't get me wrong, he is a great educator. But, before Forrest, were you actually interested in science? Most educator's are pretty decent, but most students don't give a flying fvck when they're going through high school, and honestly even college. Once your interest is sparked, you will pay far more attention and learn a great deal.
The second thing is...the topic. Not all topics of a field are going to be interesting to you and high school educators aren't there to feed YOUR SPECIFIC interests. They're required to teach a wide breadth of information.
Forrest's YT is specifically catered to a teaching style and uses topics that are far more interesting, to the majority of people.
Again, I want to say that Forrest is a phenomenal educator! However, his smile is often condescending.

I was just laughing along, enjoying a hugely uneven contest of ideas, but I gradually came to see it as really sad near the end, too. You could hear that even though he was battling along, trying to pretend his faith was impermeable, but he was rattled, because he just couldn't explain it all away to himself. And I'm sure he'll seek reassurance from the faithful around him, but I think he'll fight a losing battle with this always. He'll assert his faith around those he goes to church with, but this will chew at him.
Dan is indeed a very sad case.
I can only hope that he keeps thinking about the subject, reads a bit more science, and asks a few _very_ difficult questions of the people who did that much damage to his intellect.

It became clear pretty quickly that the caller isn't the quickest, so that hypothetical and the, admittedly, clumsy examples at the end, really did no sides any favors. The caller even admits, that he doesn't get what they are asking, so I would have just let it go a good 5-10min earlier. For us it is cool to hear all the explanations and homo this and that, but I don't think it helped the caller any and he was just lost in the sauce for the last half if not more.
Christianity should be classified as a mental illness. This call is painful. I hope that Dan finds his way out of this disgusting cult.
This is actually so depressing to me. This guy was *so* locked into his scripted answers and responses that, when asked open and honest questions about anything that went against that programming, he just froze and had no idea what to do but to back up the tape to the last point he wanted to make.
But a size ten foot... on a chimp! It really is scary to hear a seemingly normal human be so rigid in his thinking that he'd lose a debate against Forest Gump.
That's why I never ask them to answer questions in front of me. I'd rather give them things to think about. There's a chance they will find the right answers, but if I put them on the spot, their instinct is to react with whatever they've been taught to react with rather than doing any actual thinking.

If I was to be charitable I'd say his pauses were due to thinking about the questions and points put to him but no, I believe he was desperately thinking of some BS apologetics to say instead.
Religious people brainwashing children is the biggest crime towards humanity. It is only allowed to abuse chikdren if you use religion... i can't understand why.
Forest is one of my favorite hosts because he actually engages and educates, and doesn't get hostile when the caller doesn't go along with him. He actually turns the skeptical caller's question into a learning moment and showcases his passion for the subject! Truly a labor of love and it is great to watch :)

I dont think any host expects to change the mind of any caller. Maybe educate a bit and elevate the conversation, but it is rare to change a mind in a single call. I think the point is the audience.
Maybe it sets someone off to research themselves, and that ends up changing the mind. I think that is the important part. Plus, i love to hear Forrest talk about science with such passion in general.

Man, it's like walking down a sidewalk with someone, perfectly in step. You both come to a 1/2" wide crack in that sidewalk. You step over because you can see the continuity of the sidewalk. The person with you cannot step over that crack and are even incapable of seeing the sidewalk on the other side. It's mind blowing.
In his mind Jeebus is walking with him, but he knows Jeebus can't make it over that crack, and if he steps over he'll have to leave his imaginary friend behind, and he's just too scared to do that.
Except Jesus made the sidewalk. We know this world is created/designed, because FINITE NATURE (time/space/matter/energy) had a beginning and all matter is relentlessly and continuouslyl DECAYING/DYING over time toward it's heat death end. I am a 6’1” with 12 size feet. I worked with a 6’3” guy who wore 8 size shoes. Anecdotal evidence but my point is: Foot size does not automatically points to the height of an individual.

This took me back to my college days where the biology lecturer fixed an unfortunate student and said "Define a mamal". The student stammered and finally got out "Well … they have hair and give milk." The lecturer interrupted at this point and said "So far you haven’t ruled out the coconut."

The guy is searching his memorized apologia for an appropriate response, but he doesn't have any so he falls back to god and feet.
I love how Forrest, instead of saying "no, Adam and eve is stupid be that's wrong" just goes way into detail bout the actual facts to correct the caller in a fun and exciting way that doesn't make them feel stupid for saying something so ludicrous. It's like he answers all their false claims and propaganda with the actual reality of the situation in a really fun and contagious way and you can always tell they are taken aback by that. The Laetoli footprints range in size from 161.7 to 185.4 millimeters (6.36 to 7.30 inches) in length. This suggests that the individuals who made the footprints were between 101 and 165 centimeters (39.8 and 65 inches) tall. The footprints are also relatively narrow, with a ratio of foot width to length of 0.82 to 0.86. This suggests that the individuals who made the footprints had feet that were more human-like than ape-like.
The equivalent human shoe size for the Laetoli footprints would be between a size 5 and a size 7 in the US, or a size 3 and a size 5 in the UK. This is based on the average foot size of a modern human, which is 26.5 centimeters (10.4 inches) long. The Laetoli footprints are slightly smaller than this, so the equivalent shoe size would be slightly smaller as well.
Isn't that foot-to-height ratio based on humans though? Why would we use it on something neither side of the debate thinks is human?

@@Captain-Cosmo a 3 foot 8 homo floresiensis has the same foot size of a 5 foot 9 homo sapien, you've constructed a circular argument by basing your assumptions on the characteristics homo sapiens to develop the conclusion that these were homo sapiens, but the fact remains that we actually have completed specimens that contradict your initial assumptions, so what I suggest you actually do is look for other characteristics of the laetolli region, including the footprints

Good god, the Caller is using the "Spinal Tap" argument. Forrest just spent over 5 minutes debunking the caller's " Five foot nine" argument, and when Forrest was done, the caller responds with "But these go to eleven"
Jim and Forrest are truly phenomenal. I love those guys.
Lucy, the individual, was a small gal, just like how some female Homo sapiens might be really small, like 4 or 5 feet, she was small for her species and Australopithecus afarensis were sexually dimorphic so the females were smaller than the males, the males were generally around 5,6 to 6 feet like up. Size 9 foot is around 5'7" to 5'9", and somewhat variated from Homo sapiens so it makes perfect sense.
The scientists really aren't trying to mislead you, the apologetics cats are.

I really wanted to meet Forrest, J Mike and the rest on the Bat Cruise this weekend (Aug 2024) but they were sold out. Total bummer. The ACA has such amazing hosts! The last time I got to go on a bat cruise was three years ago and I was so much fun. I drove from Houston and spent the weekend. The day after the bay cruise I went to the ACA shows at the library. I met so many fantastic people!

So satisfying to watch. I've probably witnessed personally, participated in or watched videos covering thousands of these arguments with theists. I've never once see a theist win a single logical argument. Still, they persist in their silly belief.

Every time I hear a theist say they can disprove evolution, they do not actually disprove evolution.
It would help theists more if they could prove that a god exists, but that doesn't seem to be something they are willing to do.

Because they usually see disproving evolution as proving God at the same time, because creationists see "evolutionists" as crafting the theory and finding more evidence for it specifically to spite God. They don't comprehend that God doesn't enter the minds of these scientists as their findings incidentally render him a relic and a legend.
Disproving evolution does not prove God any more than proving evolution disproves God.
I always admire Valkai’s patience with people who have very little knowledge and zero understanding of logic.

I'm of the mind that Dan has a double digit IQ based upon his great hesitancies, uncertainties in speech, and inability to counter arguments. Worse, he was clearly raised on Christianity since birth, so should he ever realize--truly realize--that his eyes are closed, which will take most of his life (if ever), then his uphill battle is steeper than most others' and so he'll probably never reach the top before dying.

It’s been done many times by far more qualified biologists. E.g. “Why Evolution is True” by Jerry Coyne, or a myriad of Richard Dawkins works. The evidence is overwhelming and unassailable.

I checked it out. The size he says about the footprint is the largest possible size of the largest individual in the footprint. That size, some 155-165 cm tall, fits well with the largest skeleton they have found. which was likely around 165 cm tall.
The skeletons found indicate a very large sexual dimorphism, ie, Australopethicies had much taller and larger males than females. Lucy is one of the smallest adult individuals found at around 105cm tall.
So, the Laetoli footprint fits perfectly with the skeletons of Australopithecus afarensis we have found. Which is why we think it's Australopithecus afarensis.

Thank you, Forrest! One of my majors for my BA was Anthropology (Archaeology core, a while ago...). I loved the bio anth classes. Skeletal identification was awesome. Also, in Canada, but fortunately not raised religious. Only parts of the bible I ever read was the Book of Daniel for a Classics course, and when I was around 8, my Catholic friend's mom gave me a tiny pocket bible. Lost me at all the so and so begat, and then begat...and on and on....zzzzzzz

Fun fact: that verse in Gen 2 saying "had formed" is from the NIV and ESV. It is a deliberate mistranslation to harmonize the texts. They don't even give a footnote to explain the mistranslation. As those two translations are widely used by evangelical churches, it's a big reason that many evangelicals aren't even vaguely aware the Bible has 2 separate creation accounts.
After Forrest does his usual excellent job of summarizing human evolution for fifteen minutes, the best reply Dan had was to ask how did Pakicetus evolve a tail. Epic fail and it just shows you how religion dumbs people down.
