Wow! I’ve been struggling with playing closer to the sweet spot forever. I’ve also been watching RUclips videos about mandolin for years. No one has ever explained this the way you just did. Thank you!!!
I’m so happy to hear that! You can get to the sweet spot and use the full spectrum of tones with some focused practice and the information in this video. To your point about not finding this anywhere on RUclips, I have found that the most helpful tips and tricks Are not easy to find. So I work them into this channel and into my classes and private lessons as much as possible.
I’m so happy to hear that, Brook! (Or is it Brooks?). Glad to hear that you were already headed in the right direction and I’m thrilled that my video helped you confirm that. Good job seeking out good info early in your mandolin career, because it is so much harder to change these things later.
Always struggled getting closer to the fretboard and I suspected something might be off with my right hand and this just might be it. Been playing for about 8 years and never seen anyone cover this. Great video.
I recommend armrests for pretty much all players. It gives your arm more mobility so you can get your hand toward and away from the bridge/go from string to string smoothly. This is the one I use: ruclips.net/video/vxTHgzaAQ24/видео.htmlsi=6prKTEbVp9NH8AG1 And another video about it here: ruclips.net/video/GsdMqzZsB14/видео.htmlsi=LXWA1-kNso0e7ID5
I start out on my G string with my drumstick on the edge of the bridge and by the time I go from G-E and back the edge of the bridge is on the little finger side of the drumstick, but only the G and D strings are touching my palm and am still on the edge of the bridge at the G string. Any suggestions? Thanks

I’m so happy to hear that, David! Comments like this make it all worth it. Keep me posted on your progress, and feel free to reach out with questions!
I noticed that you use an armrest. Can you suggest when one might consider adding an armrest. Thanks

Haha, I did watch to the end because sometimes you play a cool lick or tune to close out.
And I think I failed you on that this time 😂
Yep. 😂
