Love, love, love Joe Pass. I enjoy him chatting verbally & his music is so clearly his wonderful personality. The stuff of him with Ella Fitzgerald is magical.

He has stage 4 liver cancer at the time of this interview, his body probably doesn't feel right, but he refuses to hang up his guitar. Thanks for all the inspiring music Joe.

Joe mentions a Nick Gemus as a guitar teacher from his youth. Nick's brother, I believe his name was Jimmy, was a heavy duty musician himself (flute), playing under Toscaninni, touring with Red Norvo, playing in the pit for the original production of West Side Story. Jim Gemus grandson is a very fine upright jazz bass player, who for years played with the great jazz drummer of Stan Kenton fame, John Von Ohlen. And the great jazz world continues to spin....

Joe says he didn't follow Django's style, then in Rocking Chair those licks sound Djangoish to me!
