    This describes me a lot
I started emotional eating for various reasons when I was younger -> boredom, happy, sadness, dissatisfaction with myself
I've resolved most of those issues but I find myself eating when I feel the emptiness of boredom.
My impulse always seems to win, but I'm gonna work on it
It tends to feel like an urge or an impulse now and it can happen at any time
To think I used to have pretty decent self control before it got dysregulated
But I'm thinking now I'm worth it so I should try and really bear down and break through
    Thanks
I need to learn to combat my boredom / emptiness more creatively.
I have some chronic illnesses so I struggle with physical activity to replace the eating to make me feel better so I would just eat because I was like this is the only thing I can do to feel better.
but I'm gonna find a low energy output way to full up myself - to combat my illness and boredom
    I've started meditating
But I think I may learn to draw as well.
    Thank you
    Hopefully we have a breakthrough❤
    All the best everyone

      Hi,
Thank you for sharing your story so openly-it takes courage to reflect on these patterns and commit to change. It’s wonderful that you’re already seeing your worth and acknowledging that you deserve to break through these habits.
Emotional eating can be deeply rooted in how we respond to boredom and dissatisfaction, but your awareness is a powerful first step. Since physical activity is challenging due to your chronic illnesses, creative outlets like drawing and meditation are excellent choices. These activities help redirect your energy and bring moments of stillness and fulfillment without the need to turn to food.
You might also try simple practices like deep breathing, journaling, or listening to calming music as ways to reconnect when urges arise. Over time, these methods can become part of your toolkit to manage impulses and fill moments of emptiness with meaningful engagement.
Know that this journey is about progress, not perfection. Each mindful choice you make is a step toward inner harmony. You’re absolutely worth the effort, and breakthroughs are possible with persistence and compassion for yourself.
      Kind Regards,
      David

I’ve a history of disordered eating and two stints in rehab for it. I do well now and eat real, Whole Foods, no longer restrict, and take good care of my body. But, at times, I want to comfort eat. I watched the video once already and I’m back again in the thick of wanting to get my favorite snack and dive in after a challenging, discouraging day. I was on my to a nearby store when I got distracted by a call. Then I remembered the video and I came back here to use the tools that you teach. Thank you for creating this video.

I comfort myself with big cups of hot tea. The warmth and volume gives me a feeling of fullness and comfort.
I use a bit of artificial sweetener but no milk.
I am working on finding a soothing tea that is naturally sweet.
As we age we also confuse thirst with hunger. Drinking lots of water ensures that we are hydrated.

My inner child has run my eating habits for ever! Now I can address her need to engage with fad diets, eating regimes, self sabotage with eating and the whole 9 yards. So now I can speak to my child and ask her.....how does your obsession with food, diet and detox programmers help your emotional issues.

Hi Jo, thanks for sharing your own valuable insights - this is very powerful. Has your Inner Child answered your question? x

  • @jobadger8323
    @jobadger8323 5 лет назад +1

Yes she has answered my question. Her drive via food is to get my attention.....the way she has always pushed me and not allowed me to rest or relax in life also relates to her relentless efforts to get me to pay attention to her. Now I do. She is very happy and I get to rest, relax in life and moderate everything I do without feeling anxious or driven. I can eat without obsessing. I can be relaxed during my daily activities. It’s very different and very nice! I parent her now so that she feels secure and doesn’t feel she has to rule the roost!

Hi! Always great work...however, I agree with 75%...maybe 70% of what you're saying because the physiological mechanisms that affect appetite, fullness and hunger are missing here. Recent studies show that the body, when stressed with emotions, releases a plethora of hormones causing one to binge sort of speak...especially on carbs! Check out cortisol, neuropeptide Y, and dopamine when you have a chance. So the lady you spoke of in the beginning was at the mercy of her hormones due to her thinking; her body was "making" her crave. Have great day! I will use the wu wei teachings as part of my practice (Registered Dietitian/Nutrition Counselor). Caio!

Yes emotional eating has nothing to do with food. Yes your inner child is craving love and in the moment food fills that momentarily.

For me food is like a friend. I was brought up in a very unstable environment. My Dad was agrophobic and more issues on top of that. My mum basically had 2 children plus him so like 3 children. He kept me away from family as he didnt trust ANYONE with me. He was unbearably over protective. I see food as a person. Someone who was always there for me when I needed them and it was comforting. Now I have people who I can talk to but not very open at all. Feels like if I give it up I'm saying thanks for everything you got me through but now I dont need you. It's very strange but real to me. I am getting there

I would ask you to concentrate on your first sentence: 'For me food is like a friend' , as I say in many videos the Golden Thread Process and asking the 'why?' question to dig deeper can be used on the first statement. The practical tips are good. Going to try. I feel I have this problem partially "licked"...pardon the pun, but there are those times...and yes, I see it is when I am tired or bored or otherwise unable to parent my inner child properly. Thanks for speaking specifically to this issue. Unlike alcohol or tobacco food cannot be given up...dealing with it in a healthy way is vitally important.

    • @WuWeiWisdom
      @WuWeiWisdom  5 лет назад

Hi Carla - thanks for taking time out to watch and share your story. We appreciate it! Yes, food can be more of a challenge than alcohol/tobacco as there is no 'all or nothing' (and the Human Centred Mind prefers the all or nothing approach!) Hopefully now you understand the process and are enjoying parenting your Inner Child the journey on this will become easier. :)

Great video. I do comfort eat. If find it worse when my blood sugar drops. I have reactive hypoglycemia, and when it drops low (if I was out and couldn't get access to food), I crave sugar/bad carbs. It complicates trying to eat healthy. I'm trying to get back to the paleo way of eating, and it is very hard. Any advice? I also have food allergies and find it hard to eat out and I don't always remember to take something with me.

      Hi Bonnie,

      Thanks for your comments.

I agree in your case it is doubly hard to be in control of your diet and food take.

As you say it is so important to maintain good blood sugar levels.

The best guidance I can share is to address and resolve any outstanding emotional issues that are clouding up this process.

This is definitely the time when YOU have to be in control, NOT your emotions.

Please let us know if we can help any further.

I'm so pleased that got through cancer, well done.

Yes, biting nails and overeating can have to same root cause and connection.

It is about putting the avoidances on hold and doing the deeper work of discovering the thinking and beliefs that are creating the emotional disturbance.
