Sgt Barry Sadler Ballad of the Green Berets Lyrics
Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat hand to hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request
Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

Ich lach mich kaputt!!!!😂😂😂😂
@@udofunk5409 You’re lucky the Nazi’s were defeated by the USA by men like this so you can still laugh freely. Shame on you. (PS- I’m a democrat and I can tell you most Democrats would agree with what I’ve stated!)
Oh my goodness this brings back some memories I am 67 now but when I was 10 and in the fourth grade our teacher Mrs Gore had a son who was a Green Beret thank goodness he did come home but almost every day she would have us sing this song and almost everyday she would cry so I didn't understand why she would ask us to sing her a song that made her cry and she would just say because I love it so much
@@garyurtiaga9426 Barry Sandler was a Nazi sympathizer. I have been told by someone who knew him.
VERY WELL PUT!!
My brother was not a Green Beret (a group that I admire), but he gave his life in Vietnam November 4, 1966. His name was Howard Leslie Walker and he was a year older than I was. We still miss him and think of him every day, as I'm sure that other families still mourn the loss of their loved ones in this war and EVERY war.
Thank you and rest easy young Howard Leslie Walker.
I owe your brother a big thank you. I appreciate all he and those like him sacrificed.
Sorry 2 weeks old in the post but as served bit Canadian paratrooper 😂sorry I worked and trained with both of the best 82nd and 5th special forces
My condolences
@TheLouise24, Howard is, and I'm sure Barry would agree, is every bit the hero he was in Vietnam. Big respect to your brother! He's gone but not forgotten by the rest of us Vietnam veterans. Rest In Peace brother!

Thank you for your service George
A cousin was in the Green Berets, served in Vietnam. After returning home, he kept to himself. He later committed suicide. Please vets, don’t internalize, there is help -and most importantly, there are people who love you.
Amen!
My brother played this 45 repeatedly when it came out. Our household were strong supporters of our Vietnam vets.
Take a good look at him. What you see is an American Hero. Don't forget it!
no me gusto como murio.
I am a retired Marine but love listening to this song , Vietnam 67-69

Thank you for serving our country sir! My brother in law and boyfriend was in Vietnam at that time to.
My Husband was a MARINE .
I was born in the 60s and remember the words to this song! My family played it all the time! 🇺🇸 Men were MEN and protected us. American pride will NEVER die! Thank you!!! ❤❤❤❤

That’s right, men were actually men.🇺🇸

This attitude is so needed in our country today, God Bless You for your wonderful comment.
Men were MEN and protected us!!!>> "PRIDE" had a different meaning back in the 60's
Here is a man who does not want fame. But understands what this sort of thing does for moral.
My late husband earned a green beret. Their official name is "US Army Special Forces." This song describes my husband so well. He was one of the two best men I ever met.
I remember as boy when the song came out. It never crossed my mind at that time that I would enlist in the army in 1973, serve in the 82nd Airborne Division, volunteer for Special Forces, attend the SFQC (qualification course) and serve in 5th SFG(A). As I turn 70 years old tomorrow I look back at those days as the best days of my life.
Thank you very much sir.
Thank you sir. I live in NC & had many family serve at Ft Bragg.
Thank You for your service, sincerely.
Thank you for your Service
God bless you

If this doesn't give you chills I don't know what will. Thank you sir for your all.
Amen
I was adopted by a green.beret a very great and intelligent man and he taught me well.

My son was in the military job. Proud he did his duty..
Fantastic song Sgt. Barry Sadler. This is a truly beautiful song and you definitely sing so nice. God Bless You. RIP my friend, thanks for your service.
In memory of SSGT Barry Sadler and all those who fought out did not come home from any of the wars in which we have fought.
he loved his country and trusted his government. no shame in that. a great patriot.
God bless all who fought for their country.
I was drafted in '72 and stayed for 22 years, i did enjoy my life in the Army.
Thank you
I enlisted in 66 2 nd tour Vietnam wounded sent home in a head to toe cast , 1year army hospital put my mangled body back together
I’m 81…this STILL is such a totally meaningful and tear-rendering song for me as the day i first heard it played. May God Bless them all greatly forevermore.❤️🔥.What a gift they are to our nation. What a tragic & untimely death this hero had at a young age.
My oldest brother joined the military after this song came out . He had a love of country and a sense of responsibility . He was killed on October 14th of 1969 . Looking back , what a waste of so many lives - our politicians should be ashamed .
Thanks for sharing. I wish I could thank your brother. I hope that I can honor him and all the service personnel that have sacrificed for us.
My friends often did not come back. I joined the US Army as a WAC (WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS) to honor them. Never forgotten❤❤
I am sorry for your loss.. but he didn't die in vain.. God Bless you.
May he be remembered. My brother died in 1967.
Memorial Day 2024 🇺🇸 Remember our brothers and sisters, who gave their lives for our freedoms. (U.S.Army veteran)
Fantastic tune sung with true grit well done to you staff Sargent
My dad ran into SSGT Barry Sadler during a scuffle outside a bar. Barry could fight. He was a natural born fighter/scrapper.
My dad was in military, not Green Beret, he was in the Navy on a aircraft carrier. I am very thankful to ALL MILITARY BRANCHES for their services. I did have a grandfather that was in the Army.
Amen.
Every generation in my family have served our country and very proud to do so we love our country
@@John-ue9pt my other grandfather was in the Navy, on a ship that got bombed in Pearl Harbor. Was on of a very few that survived on the ship he was on.
My brother was in the army
Many Thanks Soldier may you rest in peace ❤️
I am very happy to hear about the exploits about SSGT Barry Sadler. He's great. Thank you for your service.
I Thank you SSgt Barry Sadler for your Services and sacrifices God bless you Sir and God bless the United States Of America In Jesus Name Amen.
I have his record album. My dad was a Marine, not a Green Beret, but this album still makes me feel close to him.
I was airborne, 1973. Thanks for sharing about your son. He’s home with the many brave men 😊who gave their lives so I could sit and type this message.
This song made me sing up after high school. I fail the eye exam and my dream was shattered. My best friend did join and became a decorated Green Bere and gave his life in 2007 to an i.e.d.. His memory will live on forever and he now sleeps amongst the long list of heroes in Arlington National Cemetery. At 50 years old I'd still join if they would let me. I have always believed in the Ranger creed and what the Green Bere stands for.....❤
When I heard it after my father died in 1975. I knew all men during ww2 was being honor by this song to.
I vividly remember the album and this proud American song in the late sixties /early seventies. This song will evermore stand dear to my heart as American 🇺🇸.
People had better standards back in the day. Thank you for your service
Now more than ever, AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW THIS HISTORY, of valor, courage and patriotism.
I grew up at a young age listening to ssgt.barryvsadler .2 of my uncle's were green berets .my great uncle. Served in vietnam as an advisor .he had over 1100 jumps .he never would talk about it .he served atca very young age of 15 towards the end of the great war to end all wars. WW11 airborne his history is a lengthy one .jumped on the corregidor with the 503rd the rock in the phillipines .helped free the fillipines so macarthur could return .I respected him dearly and admired him greatly .sadly though I never got to meet him .but talked to him via tthe phone and letters
What a wonderful selfless man to share this beautiful song with us, and for him to give his life in such a sad tormented way because he loved America so. I lost dear friends in Vietnam and they were treated horribly. May God bless this hero and I thank him for his sacrifice in trying to make this world a better place. ❤
What a strong character and a life cut short, can't count the times I listen to his song. If you ever want to pay respects he is at the Nashville National Cemetery.
I was working at the Nashville national cemetery when sgt Sadler was buried there. I participated in his internment. He was a hero to me.
It sickens me when I think back how the hippies treated these hero's when they came home.
It sickens me that we sent them over in the first place to fight a war that nobody needed.
I remember those days. As if they chose to fight in a country with conditions so horrible. War is just so horrid. Women should be the head of every country. Maybe then we wouldn't have so many wars.
Wasn't just the Hippies, I watched my friends come back and were treated badly by many
My great grandfather was in WWI, my grandfathers(both) were in WWII, and my dad.. who at 75 is my BEST friend and hero was in Vietnam from 69-71.. The others come home to a hero's welcome.. whereas my dad, who as a door gunner and the crew chief survived over 10 shot down hueys, saw ALOT.. (he doesn't talk about it) was looked DOWN on and he was doing exactly like the grandfather's were doing- following orders. Pisses me off. Those pieces of crap should have aimed all of their protesting at Washington.. not people like my father.. a kid. He stayed in the Army full time for over 20 years and retired , got into law enforcement.. was a cop part time and worked full time for the Ga State Board of Pardons & Parole.. which he needed a bachelor's degree to get that job.. The US Army put him through college . Before he was drafted he was on the path of being a diesel mechanic/stock car engine builder like his father.. His retirement check from the Army is SUBSTANTIAL.. HE IS A REAL MAN .. YEARS ago he told me "I paid the hippies no attention.. If they were being shot at they'd shoot back too. It wasn't about apple pie or baseball.. it was all about protecting the guy next to me.. they can go to hell.." He will not watch war movies at all. I KNOW I'm straying.. but I take every opportunity to talk about him.. He is EXTREMELY HUMBLE
.. and when someone says something to him about "war hero" he gets red faced and says "the heros are the ones that didn't come back.. the ones that died so I could... '' He is the smartest and best man I have ever known.. So the hippies can SUCK IT. GOD BLESS ALL THE FALLEN ONES.. WE BITCH , PISS AND MOAN.. and all those fallen were fighting for our rights to PISS and moan. God Bless THE HEROS AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT have to experience the pain of losing their loved ones. God Bless America...It isn't perfect BUT I CAN TYPE THAT WITHOUT BEING ARRESTED! 🙏🤦🏿♂️
and Jane Fonda 😡
God Bless All Green Berets ❤😊 !
My daddy was a green beret Sgt 1st class, Army special forces. Mama would play this song while daddy was serving his tour of duty in the Korean and Vietnam War. I was 4 when daddy left for his tour of duty and I was 2 months shy of my 6th birthday when he came home, safe and unharmed. He served our country proudly for 21 yrs. Sadly daddy passed 24 yrs ago from complications of being exposed to agent orange while he was in Vietnam he was only 64 yrs old. This song brought back wonderful memories and made me cry I miss our daddy he was our hero ❤❤❤
I served in the Navy for just over decade, and I'm always proud to see and hear Sgt Barry Sandler.
2:52 "A small group, with a big mouth." Said in 1966! Prophetic. Depressingly prophetic. The world needs men like this guy more than ever.

When men were men. And the women were glad of it.
It's refreshing to see a REAL man in uniform, as opposed to a guy in a skirt, a wig, and makeup.
Amen
what about men who don’t wear uniforms OR skirts? 😨
I still have his records. As a preteen I listened to them near daily. Such a fine man with an amazing voice.
A real man God bless !!!!!!!!!!!!! I Honer you.
God Bless You Sir!!!
82nd Airborne Ranger here....Great, great song ...stand tall always... Bless The Green..
Rest in Peace, Barry!
As a NAVY VETERAN, I play CALL TO COLORS AND RETREAT every morning @ 8am and then retreat every evening at sunset. In the mornings, I do CALL TO COLORS, The National Anthem, and then the different military songs(Anchors Aweigh, Army, Air Force, and Marines). Evening is retreat, National Anthem, and TAPS. After those 3, I play 2 patriotic songs from the U.S. AUR FORCE Singers and Barry Sadler's Ballad of the Green Berets. I live in a retirement community and several people come over to listen and show their RESPECT FOR THOSE WHO GAVE ALL. They are all Veterans of the U.S. ARMED FORCES. GOD BLESS ALL VETERANS, PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. ❤🙏🏻🙏🏻
A warrior poet. Amen.
First time I heard this song I was a kid ~ 7yo but it hit me hard. My family were very patriotic but the number of kids dying in & for Vietnam was causing doubts within. The war lacked an end game and became something that tore our country in half. Returning soldiers being treated as if they were enemy combatants rather than the poor victims they actually were. I felt confused bc this song was so inspiring but my family was getting split into 2 parts. Very confusing times for our country that resulted in many many people behaving very badly. Thank you very much for producing a great song and condolences to the untold thousands of families who lost love ones to this "police action".
Thank you Sgt Barry for your service. That's an awesome song. R.I.P Sgt Barry 🇺🇲🙏
Thanks for his service

My parents both served in WWII, my brother served in the Marines, as did my son. My son-in-law is an awesome (nationally recognized) recruiter for the army national guard. I have a lot of respect for our service men and women!!❤️❤️
I was 11 years old when this song came out, 😢💐😪 Very special to me to this day, 🙏🏼🎚🙏🏻
My Family had a neighbor that was a Green Beret. Really a kind man. He was home on leave one time and I was really sick and could not go to school. My mom had to work she was beside herself and did not know what to do. She told this neighbor and you know what he did, he gave up his day to baby sit a 13 year old girl that was so sick she did not even know our neighbor was taking care of me until I got well. He did 3 tours in Vietnam. This is a true man, I hope & Pray to this day he is well. 🙏🏻🎚🙏🏼
I had a brother that was in the Army and went to Vietnam a few years later. Even though he came home physically alive, my brother was just not the same, he died in 2015.
I have his songs on an 8 track tape from way back when! 😁👍

My late mother had a cousin in the green beret. He died during training. This was during the Korean War. My father served as an army Ranger in world war 2. So yeah this song means alot to me. I heard about it. But it was before time. I was born in 1963. But being an army brat. I heard about it. Thank you for posting this.
I have always loved this. We did a marching performance to this song when I was in Jr. High.
Lost my dad to agent orange in 2003, he was one of the 1st military advisors sent to VietNam, he worked with the mountards tribe, I still have items he brought back. He never spoke much of the war.
God bless your dad

My late husband served in Vietnam. When he came home death followed him. Agent Orange exposure. He passed way too soon. Thank God for our hero’s.😢
Spent many years as a GB. This is the song they always played at graduation. Nick Rowe issued my GB. I never like the lyrics, have him win the GB. I never won a green beret. I earned it.
