    Great review. I have been using Fiskars axes for several winters, where I primarily heat my house with my wood stove. The Super Splitting Axe is a tremendous splitter as long as you’re tall enough to use it (I’m 6’0”). I also use their 28” Chopping Axe and 14” hatchet for de-limbing and kindling.
    I’m seriously impressed with their fiber reinforced handles. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve over-struck rounds while splitting wood; I would have ruined numerous hickory handles in the process. Their Fibercomp handles are basically unbreakable.
    With that said, I’ve always been drawn to wood handles (Gränsfors Bruk, etc.). The Norden series gives you a very alluring wooden aesthetic, but with the superior overstrike protection of their Fibercomp handles.
    I’m going to pick up the Norden line very soon. Thanks again for the review.

      Hello mrTangent, sorry for such a late reply. You are the perfect customer really: you like the fiskars indestructibility, but are drawn to wood handles. The Norden series will be to your liking for sure!
      I have the same setup as you: the largest splitter, 28inch chopping axe and the smaller hatchets. Works fast and is fun. My wood stove does about half the work in winter. The rest is a heat pump.
      Have a nice summer, Papa hiker

    Good to see you again. Enjoyed the review. I bought a Fiskers small hatchet with a nice fixed blade knife inside the handle. The steel was good. The hatchet was light enough to carry on my belt, rather than a knife. I used it for small trimming and splitting, no big stuff. My grandson fell in love with it because it was just his size. Thanks again for your review. Texas

      Hey Corey, YES! I noticed that the ones they sell in the US come with a leather sheath... now I want one.
      I think you will love it. I personally like the N7 even better, although that is a less versatile tool than the N10.
      Kind regards, Papa hiker

    I'm a large man but not as strong as I used to be. Speaking of the x7 it's an ideal size and weight hatchet. But the x10 was a little too heavy for one hand and a little too short for two hands.

      Hello John, I agree. I have been using the N 7 a lot in the last weeks to build a boat (videos will come) and of the two it is the optimal choice.

    Very informative, well done. Need one axe for camping fire prep, misc. cutting, not so much for hiking. If you could only have one of these two, which would it be? Thanks again and subscribed!

    • @papahiker9014
      @papahiker9014  3 года назад

      Hello Robert, thanks! Well, if you only had one then the N10 is more versatile, because it is suited for double handed use (one and a half really), and has a wider blade for splitting. Also if you are not lugging it around much the weight difference does not matter much. So that would be my recommendation. But, that said, the N7 just seems made for my hands, so personally I would pick the N7. I love that axe.
      Kind regards, papa hiker

    Do they use better steel for the Norden series? I've heard that the normal series' steel is a little soft and rolls.

    • @papahiker9014
      @papahiker9014  3 года назад +2

      Hi Mr Dosonhai,
      I did some research back when I made this video and yes, if I am correct they use a premium steel for the Norden series. I have both and agree that the steel on the regular series is a bit soft. Personally, I don't mind that at all, because that means they are a bit easier to sharpen. Say, for example, that you would have a very hard steel axe and you do get a chip or a blunt point, then you need to take material off the entire blade, which is really difficult.
      Both Norden axes are holding up really well. I have used them for one and a half year now and have never sharpened them.
      Kind regards! Papa hiker
