I have no inclination of ever doing the West MKAL but absolutely love following along and seeing how everyone else is doing and how different all the various colour combinations work up as well as seeing what incredible design Stephen has come up with each year. I get just as excited to watch as the people who join in do to make it so, I can't wait to see how yours turns out. Looking forward to your Vlogtober posts.
I'm really on the fence about this year's MKAL. I started that same year you did but I was ignorant to yarn so I used a big box DK brand and my shawl is ENORMOUS. I loved every bit of the process and fell deeply in love with Stephen West. The next year, I purchased a yarn set but did not like the yarn nor the first two parts of the shawl, so I frogged it and even sold the yarn. Last year was my first success and adore my final shawl, although it did take me six months to finish it ;-) I think my favorite part of the process is watching the videos. I watch the videos as soon as they come out it they make me so motivated to continue and TRY to keep up. This year - I have two skeins of variagated yarn but I am going to wait until I see the first two parts before I purchase the second contrast color. And I plan to watch all the videos and then cast on during my winter break. (Teacher here). Also, I live in CA so don't wear shawls often, so my pieces end up drapped over my couch or chairs. LOVE your videos. Can't wait for VlogTober!!!
This is my third year as a ‘lurker’ and I can’t imagine ever doing the MAL, but Stephen is inspirational in his designs - whether people like them or not, the ideas are incredible. Very much looking forward to seeing how it unfolds, and how your yarns knit up - love the colours you’ve chosen. And your Shawlography is so beautiful. The yarn sounds like a special blend. Bit jealous!
Love that! Stephens design are so clever but with an MKAL I can never be sure I will like the finished project. I didn't do the sock MKAL this year as I didn't get on with last years one. Love watching along though! The yarn for my Shawlography is so lovely 🥰
Just stumbled on your channel. I also started with shawlography and loved it. I missed the year after but did geogradient. I love the process and I'm like you...I try to follow the pattern as I much as I can but if I'm stuck will just watch the bit I need. I'm excited to start this one and I'm using drops nord and alpaca in amethyst and orchid. Will follow along with your vlogs. Love your colour choices 👌
Hi Emily, I’m excited to do my second MKAL but I’m nervous as well 😬. I love all your previous MKAL’s they are beautiful and I love your colour choices for this years. I’m using a variegated yarn by Pixie Yarn which is her Flock colour-way and a solid colour by The Knitting Gift Shop which is Shades of Weardale in a green colour xx
Shawlogrophy was my first WestKnits MKAL. It took me a long time to finish it because I screwed up the Brioche section twice and it put me off for about a year. But I did end up finishing it, and I love it! I missed the last two years, but am doing GoGo Dynamo this year. I was thrilled that I had all the needed yarn in my stash already. I'm using Cascade Heritage in Camel and Golden yellow. I also have a mystery skein of mohair in my stash that I'll use. It is brown.
Oh I love that, awesome job persevering with it though 😊 Shawlography is still my fav so far. Your colour choice for Go Go Dynamo sounds wonderful. I hope you are enjoying it so far.
Doing it for the first time this year. Using yarn from stash, Yarnsmiths Merino Sock in Lavender and White plus Rowan Kidsilk Haze in a pale pink. If there's brioche I hope there's an alternative as I hate that stitch, lol
That's so exciting!! I hope you enjoy. You're yarn choice sounds so lovely 😍 I remember on Shawlography there were two options in the pattern when we got to the brioche section. Stepehn did offer an alternative for anyone who didn't want to do the brioche so he should do the same if there is any this year 😊

Beautiful work. I envy your skill.

Thank you so juch, that's very kind 🥰 I always learn so much from Stephen's designs.

@@memilymakes I am enjoying it very much. I just finished section 1. I'm holding my breath, hoping I'll finish all of clue 1 before the next release.
