I never usually comment on RUclips but I had to on this occasion! I'm so grateful for this video. I've already fixed the floor in my largest bedroom, and landing just buy purchasing a nail punch set. All of upstairs is terrible, I'm currently decorating so I was able to access all the boards, did every single one, my back is not happy but but certainly am 😂 all thanks to you I've saved £360! Now I'm off to check you vid on how to stop the creaking stairs 🏃🏾♀️ 🏃🏾♀️ 🏃🏾♀️ 😊
Hi, it's comments like this that make the videos worthwhile filming and editing. Im glad the video has helped you fix your noisy floors. Thanks again for your comment!
I hope your effort & kindness of making this video is rewarded with the views it deserves, explaining the reason for the squeaking alone deserves a lot of views 👍👍
i dont usually comment on social media but this is absolute gold for a novice DIYer like myself, thank you!! at night i can now stealthily visit the bathroom and venture to the fridge without waking the wife!!
Hi catfish, thanks for your comment on my video it really helps my video reach other people. It has made a massive difference in my office! Don't forget to look at my other videos and subscribe 😉
I wish i had someone like that stopping my bathroom floor creaking instead of some clown who just drilled a few screws in on one part of the floor put a sub floor down without checking the other side first. One side doesnt creak the other side does.Brilliant.
Hi, over time the timber floor boards move and warp, this action can actually partially pull the nail out (as seen early on in the video). If you use screws then this can't happen!
Great video nate well done. Best ive seen. One comment would be to reduce the quantisation on the audio, its a little hard to hear with the echo in the room
Great video. Many thanks. Is there any way of ensuring that youre not going to hit a pipe or elec cable? I'm having to fix bathroom floorboards and I know there are pipes underneath?
Thanks for the videos, very helpful. Do you think Wood glue works better then watered down PVA ? Ive seen other videos use the PVA method on floorboards. But you seem to use PVA. Im sure you have tried both methods?
Hi, neat wood glue is far stronger than watered down pva or just pva glue. Once the wood glue is cured, it becomes stronger than the wood itself. Hope that helps you!
Not me sat on my landing watching this video screwing nails in 🤦🏼♀️😂 However I'm watching this because I'm scared of hitting a wire or pipe, any tips??
Unless you have looked under the floor then it's impossible to say where the pipes are. If you either knock the nails in further or replace with screws then you know there won't be pipes there
Thanks for this! Do I get a countersunk screw that is threaded the whole way or not? I tried doing what you told me with srews that are only 2/3 threaded and it doesn't solve the problem
Hi, for the squeaky floorboards, i would use screws that are only 2/3 threaded. The reason for this is that it allows the floorboards to be pulled tight to the joists, whereas threaded screws can leave a slight gap between the joist and the floorboards. If you pilot the boards, you may find the threaded scres do the job. It's a bit of trial and error, dont forget to do the boards next to it as well.
Yes, that is true. Luckily, these floors have been up before for the soundproof insulation, so I know the exact runs of pipes and cables as marked on the floor boards!
It’s easy to tell if there’s a water pipe below you chosen drilling position, as once you remove the drill, you get a little water fountain coming through the hole. Don’t ask me how I know.

Im just moving into a property soon, one of my notes about it was the squeaky floorboards! Helpful video, thank you.
I'm glad this video was useful. There is nothing more irritating than squeeky floorboards!

That is less than ideal. Unfortunately, it sounds like you won't be able to fix it.
top bloke, been pulling my hair out the last few days trying to sort my floor boards out 🙂
Glad the video helped! Cheers for your comment 👍
Perhaps Steve can advise on hair replacement ... 😂 🤝... good luck with your floorboard ... I will tackle mine based on Steve's valuable tips ... 🤝
@pauljohnhorgan5628 brilliant reply. However, I have no such luck with hair replacement!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!!
Im glad you liked it, im going to be doing a similar video of how to fix noisy stairs
Really helpful video - thanks. Could you explain why screws are better than simply adding additional nails? Thanks

Thank you! Great video!!
Hi, thanks for your comment. Let me know how you get on with fixing your stairs!
Great video, could you please advise what screws you used and what size of drill bit for the pilots. Thank you for your help
Unfortunately, i can't remember as yhis was over a year ago. I would guess 4.0 x 40 mm with a 5mm pilot bit and countersink bit.
Great video nate well done. Best ive seen. One comment would be to reduce the quantisation on the audio, its a little hard to hear with the echo in the room
Hi, that was one of my earlier videos, and i now use a mic, so the audio and filming are better quality. Im glad you liked the video!

Good advice steve xx

Great video. Many thanks. Is there any way of ensuring that youre not going to hit a pipe or elec cable? I'm having to fix bathroom floorboards and I know there are pipes underneath?
Unfortunately, there is no way of guaranteeing you won't hit a pipe or cable. My advice would be to try and look under the floor if possible!
Okay thanks. I need to get under the floor boards and check it out. Many thanks for your reply. 😊

Fowler is seemingly a bit light on his feet, as well as having an extremely wide centre parting going on! 😂

that would be amazing steve!

How about vinyl floors squeek ,open from the side??? Please reply . Thanks
Hi, is it the sub floor thats squeaking?

Unless you have looked under the floor then it's impossible to say where the pipes are. If you either knock the nails in further or replace with screws then you know there won't be pipes there
How would I know if there are electric cables?
If you put foxings where the original ones are, then you should be ok 👍
Good vid. What size is yhe pilot drill?
You need to match the pilot bit to the screws but in this case, it was a 3mm bit. Hope that helps you out!
@@FixitwithFowler Thanks

Wherever possible always move to a property with concrete floors
You would struggle in the Uk to get upstairs rooms in a house with concrete floors!
Without precise knowledge of any pipe runs, you could be putting a screw through a heating pipe surely???
Yes, that is true. Luckily, these floors have been up before for the soundproof insulation, so I know the exact runs of pipes and cables as marked on the floor boards!
@@FixitwithFowler Understood. thanks for the video...

@jf2613 yep, been there and done it but mine was with a circular saw 🤯
Garbage audio
Yeah its an old video but now i use a wireless microphone! Live and learn 😀
