    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Год назад +3

      Hi, over time the timber floor boards move and warp, this action can actually partially pull the nail out (as seen early on in the video). If you use screws then this can't happen!

    Thanks for the videos, very helpful. Do you think Wood glue works better then watered down PVA ? Ive seen other videos use the PVA method on floorboards. But you seem to use PVA. Im sure you have tried both methods?

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Год назад +3

      Hi, neat wood glue is far stronger than watered down pva or just pva glue. Once the wood glue is cured, it becomes stronger than the wood itself. Hope that helps you!

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  8 месяцев назад +1

      Unless you have looked under the floor then it's impossible to say where the pipes are. If you either knock the nails in further or replace with screws then you know there won't be pipes there

    Thanks for this! Do I get a countersunk screw that is threaded the whole way or not?
    I tried doing what you told me with srews that are only 2/3 threaded and it doesn't solve the problem

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Год назад +1

      Hi, for the squeaky floorboards, i would use screws that are only 2/3 threaded. The reason for this is that it allows the floorboards to be pulled tight to the joists, whereas threaded screws can leave a slight gap between the joist and the floorboards. If you pilot the boards, you may find the threaded scres do the job. It's a bit of trial and error, dont forget to do the boards next to it as well.

      It’s easy to tell if there’s a water pipe below you chosen drilling position, as once you remove the drill, you get a little water fountain coming through the hole. Don’t ask me how I know.
