What If Identity V Looked Like This...

  • Identity V can look a little outdated. Here are the changes I would make to the in-game UI to make it look more modern, more practical and just nicer! Come along with me through all of the changes I have made to improve the overall understand-ability of the game's UI, making it much easier for beginners to understand what is going on and removing all the clutter. Maybe the rest of the Identity V community has a different idea, but these are mine!

    I personally don't mind. It's simple and gets the work done. I would argue that it's even better than DBD, because it provides more information.

      That’s what separates dbd and idv, dbd is focused based on team play where you’ll either get lucky to play with people who are good at what they’re doing or the opposite and horror related. Whereas idv is more friendly play where they get to notify eachother of the hunters presence or movement something dbd doesn’t do because it’s focused on the horror aesthetic to make it harder and scary to play. Idv a light hearted game and dbd is consistent of an older age group within a horror franchise

      I mean it doesn't really provide more info, presence is nonexistent in dbd, some killers have level-up powers that are just represented by the icon, survivor portraits exist, the dungeon is shown exactly like in the video when it's open, and the traits bar is just the perks diamond from dbd and that one shows everything you're affected by as well with icons next to it or above it. The only thing idv has that dbd doesn't is the radar/ now map and that's cause every map is fully RNG making maps for it would be impossible and defeat the point of RNG maps. TBH dbd shows a lot more stuff with way simpler icons

    I like how old and dated it feels, it fits the rugged and older aesthetic of the gamer itself, in comparison to games that feel more futuristic or sci-fi or magical. I feel like a clean organized UI fits those games, but with IDV's horror and default messy feel, it really fits it a lot more imo

      I think of they were really trying to lean into the horror aspect it would make more sense to have less visible things as the less "tools" you have, the more "powerless" you feel. Take FNAF for example, the reason why it is so effective at being scary is because you only have a few options.

      @@BBlackPhoenix Yeah, but in fnaf, u don't play competitive rank, where you have to see everything clearly to perform the best. Maybe making competitive and ambient versions of UI would be the solution?

    Overall, the idea of an UI change is cool, but I don't think adding as much color as you did is a good idea. IdV's gray icons work great aesthetically, and keep a consistent look that I think looks nice. I also feel like the top needs to be up there because mobile players usually dont look at the bottom half

    I think it’s great how it is, tbh it would actually feel cluttered if they added more details. The presence being on the side would actually get in the way of hunter vision. I would actually dislike that change.

      There are already things on the side in the game, so having a presence bar that disappears once it's completed would essentially mean you have a completely clean right side. Nothing getting in the way of the hunter vision (compared to how it currently is)

      @@BBlackPhoenix There are but they’re simple. They wouldn’t be distracting and take a whole side. It’s at a good section where you already look at it frequently to pay attention to survivor states.

    I feel like the only thing i would be against is the heart adjustment, but everything seems just better, specially the survivor icons

    Making too many information appear at the bottom would make it harder to see the trails and survivors like Explorer so I wouldn't place everything at the bottom. However I like the aesthetic of the icons, survivors' state etc.. you made better

    IMO, i wouldnt change what identity v's ui have now, the fact that it still looks identical to the days i first started playing (2020) feels so nice.
    Especially the survivor's health icon, i'd literally die if thy changed those.

    I think some of the ideas are interesting, but most of them are bad in my opinion.
    1)I don't think crazy colourful icons would match the theme...☹️
    2) You don't need huge presence bar on left. I think current solution is much better and simpler, although the text could be replaced by an icon.
    3) having information on the bottom of the mobile screen isn't very good as you are mostly watching the top. Also you would sometimes cover it by your hand. On PC maybe this could work.
    4) on the left there are deduction goals. Where would you put them if you would place cipher & dungeon info? Also again, you would sometimes cover the info by hand on Mobile.+ Humans are mostly used to pay attention to the center of screen, not edge.
    Summary:
    I can agree only with the text replacement by icons, and MAYBE, big maybe to tinnitus change, but in different design than you showed. Other ideas are unpremeditated. Just my opinion, no hate. ☺️

    For icon make based off the skin, so if the same survivors have different skins you can easily tell who you hit and not guess
    And add a small effect to the bar to help new player show that its a strong tool as they reached the next tier (could be the same or a effect based on hunter I.E a growing flame for leo or heavy smoke for ripper)

    I think presence bar should make a roaring or sound effect when full. That would be intense

      It makes a disoriented bell noise when half and full presence

    I think this is a great change! I disagree with the heart as a replacement for tinnitus, I think one thing that throws beginners off is the lines coming from the ear icon (which is why they think they're auditory cues) so I'd say if I were to change the tinnitus icon, I'd take those lines away for a clearer understanding of what it's supposed to be for beginners.

    Imo, the weapon-info-button on the far left does a pretty good job at reminding players how and when to hit without being intrusive(?). When there are too many things to look at in one place, it can get a little overwhelming which is what I noticed in other games like one of your examples of 'modern' games
    After watching the video, I found that I disagreed with a lot of things. Although, I have never noticed the word 'presence' or if I did, I forgot it existed since I never understood what it meant. So yes, removal of that would be fine.
    That's about it for what I agree with though. I like the simplistic/minimalistic design that idv has currently. Doesn't distract the eye too much but tells you exactly what you need.
    Just to add on, I don't understand why you're so fussed about the words at the top, it's nice to have that information and I think that it's actually easier to 1) understand as a beginner and 2) being at the top means that as moblie players, we don't have to move our finger to see the info

    I don't mind the current UI of idv but maybe just because I'm already used to it, been playing it since season 8 so it's familiar to me. Yours on the other hand is more new player friendly and easier to understand, if NE decided to do something like that I wouldn't mind, we all get used to stuff anyway and a clean upper side of the screen is definitely something I'd like to have the chance to have, for kiting especially

    It looks so much better. I wish it’s possible to customise the buttons a bit, just like on some shooter games where you can drag the buttons around where u want them, that’d be actually pretty nice

      Yeah, there are some options to do that on mobile if you dig around in the settings a little.

    I feel something that could help is when a teamate pings "The Hunter has Dentention!". A little popup appears on the top of the screen like "Detention!"
    Much like how DBD has the cursed icon when NOED is revealed

      if you bring the Escape Persona Trait(you will if you have Borrowed Time) you can use the icon as a make-shift detention timer

    If I'm being honest I much prefer how it is now to this, the vertical presence bar would be a little better, but almost everything else I would not like to see, mainly because I really don't think much of the stuff on screen needs to have space made, and having text actually makes it easier to know things, also most things seem redundant, these are all just my opinions though, if other people find that the layout currently isn't that good then that's fair, but even if they did make a change like this I'd hope they'd make it optional, e.g you could have an "informative" mode, which would be the current layout, and some sort of "compressed" mode which has the sort of layout described in the video.

    I think what would help the most is a texture update to the game! Improving the walls, pallets, dirt, grass, floors, basement textures, etc. would help the most. It would make the game feel more alive again would look a lot nicer too! Lighting updates would be nice as well. Beyond that a ping update is needed

      Better textures = worse performance = worse ping = angry people.
      Also ping cannot be „updated“ it can be fixed by moving the servers or other changes.

      Texture update would be nice for pc players, but awful for mobile players bc the detailed texture would make the gameplay more laggy

    Nah the terror heart is better because I've been playing for 4 months and didn't know wtf the ear icon was till around 2 months ago 😭 I was never told about tinnitus I only heard the word get thrown around a lot I thought it was a trait.

    I honestly just like all the new colors cause the current UI is very boring to look at with just Grey and just more Grey everywhere. More color makes things pop out more especially for the Status Effects.

      Look at your own borrowed time perk on the top left, its the same as the detention's time

    All of this idea is super good, and it will be great if this idea is implemented, but there's one more thing that should be deleted from screen, and that is the text of mission which will give u the ugly skin of that char. That text is SUPER annoying cuz some of it are literally eat half of my screen..
