I am a born Bajan but grew up in the UK and at that time when asked where I was from. The Jamaicans regularly referred to Barbados as 'small Island '. The Jamaicans in the UK certainly looked down on other Islands then.

Thank you for sharing, I honestly don’t think that saying small island 🏝️ was Jamaicans trying to be disrespectful. Growing up in Jamaica everyone say small island even when talking about Cuba 🇨🇺 and Haiti 🇭🇹. We would call America 🇺🇸 Canada 🇨🇦 and the UK 🇬🇧 foreign and anywhere in the Caribbean we would say small island, it’s more about the way we talk. Because they would say small islands with pride and happiness when they get a chance to go work in one of the other islands.

And you are very certain that all of these people that claim to be Jamaicans, really are Jamaicans. There seems to be a concerted effort to create a chasm between Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean along with black America.
I personally have never heard any negative remarks, geared to any Caribbean Islands, from my fellow Jamaicans. If they harbour this sentiment, they keep it under wraps and if you Jamaicans, they cannot keep their mouths shut about anything. They stand in front of the bars and domino tables voicing their opinions at the tops of their voices, or create a dancehall song with their grievance as the theme.
There may be individuals who have had personal grievances, but this is definitely not a general theme.

So growing up in Jamaica there were many other islanders living there, many were Barbadians who were married , working and living in perfect harmony with us. Fast forward to a few years ago when several Jamaicans were turned back or deported from flights going into Barbados it caused a strain of the relationship. From there I heard many people saying we do not get along among other harsh things. All this while I lived and worked with many Barbadians in Florida and it didn't put a single dent in our relationships. I went to Barbados after the lawsuits and calamity was over in the courts and to my surprise there were Jamaicans living in Barbados in perfect harmony through it all. As soon as I landed walked outside , opened my mouth ,spoke and a Bajan heard my accent it was nothing but love and admiration. My good friend who is Bajan went to Jamaica to work and she was astonished at how much love and respect she got too. To all who I notice is still throwing in negative comments, I say get your stories first hand and stop talking on pure air because you are gasping.

However, the region resented Jamaican because of a Federation issue. Where I was told that the federation was for the Caribbean to use one currency. Apparently, Jamaican bowed out at the last minute, collapsing the plan by the JLP government.

Barbados' first PM, Errol Barrow, best described the Caribbean relationship by referencing "our inestimable bonds of consanguinity." As you noted, the Trini-Bar-Lucian, Vincy-Jam-Tiguan circumstance abounds. WI absolutely love each other.
Sure, family bicker from time to time, but, by and large, WI are one united people from many parishes ... joined by water ~ the parish of Barbados 🇧🇧, the parish of Jamaica 🇯🇲, parish of Trinidad&Tobago 🇹🇹, parish of St. Lucia 🇱🇨, etc.
ReggaeBoyz, SocaWarriors, the steelpan, reggae, Marley, Machel, Rihanna -- they all belong to WI, and we love em all no matter which Caribbean parish they're from. One love, one heart!

But overall the Jamaican culture influences Some people from Barbados and from my person interaction with Jamaicans I have never had a negative encounter. But I have never visited Jamaica directly. I have to do that soon to interact with Jamaicans in their own environment. Some Bajan generalize Jamaicans as aggressive and violent. Some actually see this as having a strong personality and admirable. My encounters with Jamaicans have not been any different form other carribean people. Most rivalry came from politics and sports competitiveness.

No. I've never ever heard that among Barbadians. In fact, Barbados has very close cultural bonds with Jamaica. Actually, as I have been made to understand, Barbadians such as Jackie Opal played a prominent role in the development of ska and reggae in Jamaica. Please correct me if I am wrong. What has emerged of late in Barbados is an explosion in the Jamaican population. Due to the economic stresses being experienced in Barbados, coupled with the small size of Barbados, some Barbadians have expressed, as can be understood, some concern about the sudden spike in the rise of Jamaican nationals. But it is not an outcry. Another reason why it is not an outcry is because it is generally understood by Bajans that Barbados has always been a hotspot for Caribbean migration. That has contributed to the flavour of Barbados. I commend you highly for so clearly setting the political and historical backdrop of the rivalry between the islands. However, I believe the wounds of the failed West Indies Federation are still there. Strangely, those wounds may be the reason why Caricom appears to have been in a type of limbo over the past decade and a half. But you, Sir, take a bow! You are doing an excellent job!

West Indies cricket have kept us together successfully.

    Just stories of old folklore.

Lawrence Rowe, Carl Hooper, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Manley, Bolt, Greenidge, Haynes, Marshall, Garner, Worrell, Sobers, Hall, Holding, Dujon, Hilary Beckles, Gayle, have the spirit of the two countries strong and united.
    Grace products as well.
But one man that really being the Caribbean together is Clive Lloyd.
They only negative base of the story is that old federation story

I think hate is a strong word, but indifference did occur between the Caribbean islands back in the Windrush era. I was told, that our parents and grandparents especially from Jamaica were not happy with fellow Caribbeans, apart from the Trinidardians, when it came to fighting against the racist teddy boys as other Caribs were reluctant to join in the fight against them. Even, though this division was rife among the elders, it was not so evident among the younger generation, where you found friendship in schools, clubs, and parties; because we were all reveling in the same entertainment whether it be reggae or calypso cum Soca. Today, I believe cricket has a role to play in the unity of the Caribbean islands along the Rastafarian movement that spread across the islands preaching the doctrine of ONE LOVE in the music of Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Culture, Morgan Heritage, etc, This has helped to unite the Caribbean islands in many ways and now we are using the term ONE CARIBBEAN. You will now find that Jamaicans are in relationships with Bajans, Bajans, with Trini's, Trini's with Antiguans, Antiguans with St Lucians, St Lucians with those from St Kitts and Kittician's in relationships with those from St Vincent and Dominica. Long may it last 🙏🙌💚💛❤💯💥😎

The British chose Jamaican to help them help and and build many colonies in the Caribbean and south and central America, the British think that Jamaican is tough like white people, they also believe that Bahamian was tough like Jamaican people the British chose Jamaican and Bahamian to compete a lot of task, I found a book Authored by a American in the 1930s the Title say THE JOB THAT CAUSE GENERATION OF HATE, the book was about the building of the Panama canal ,the American hire 100,000 , Jamaican and 1000 Bahamian and zero Barbadian ,but later hire a lot of other Caribbean people, when Barbadian arrive in Panama they say Jamaican people there in charge the Jamaican was the foreman, supervisor ,teacher ,there was a communication problem ,with Spanish speaking people who speak Spanish so they hire a lot of Jamaican as teachers this make Jamaican rich, Barbadian and Trinidadisj start to get Jealous, the same thing happen England when the Barbadian arrived they saw Jamaican with good Jobs and they get very JELOUS of Jamaica, these things happen a long time ago today Generation finally known why Barbarian don't like Jamaican people.

@carib21network Not so fast ! largest population don't have anything to do with this forget Panama canal ,also England after WW 2 the British only want Jamaican & Bahamian in England ,but later bring over every other Caribbean people, the American plan to build the Panama canal but they did not want to fail like the French so they do a study to find out why the french fail and the finding is. Because of tropical disease and inferior labourer, the British advise the American to Hire no nonsense labourer but the best was Jamaican and Bahamian that's why out of the 101,000 labourer they hire 100,000 was Jamaican, the Jamaican & Bahamian was very successful that prompt them to hire more CARIBBEAN people, you can find this unfo if you search real good.

I am a Bajan living in the USA Michigan.
People ask are you from Africa
    I oftentimes, say no
The follow-up question are you from Jamaica, I say no
I am a Caribbean man first and foremost
I am proud to say Barbados 🇧🇧 a Bajan.
I always keep it in the back of my head with a main focus
West Indies cricket have kept us together successfully.
I don't think Bajan hates Jamaicans or Trinidadians hate no ones in the Caribbean make up.
We have many folklures run shop stories but nothing is about hate.
    Just stories of old folklore.
With the federation way back then was what it is since then
Lawrence Rowe, Carl Hooper, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Manley, Bolt, Greenidge, Haynes, Marshall, Garner, Worrell, Sobers, Hall, Holding, Dujon, Hilary Beckles, Gayle, have the spirit of the two countries strong and united.
    Grace products as well.
But one man that really being the Caribbean together is Clive Lloyd.
They only negative base of the story is that old federation story
However, cricket, athletics, the UWI and music 🎶 have bond us as a united front.
As strong 💪 Caribbean people all fully understanding and loving out very countries but never hating each other.
