    As I was younger I worked at a cemetery saleing burial plots, caskets, vaults, headstones, and everything a person needs after passing, but I was Saleswoman, and I sucked at it. It was commission and I didn't stay there long, wasn't making me any money. So life goes on.

    I had to start laughing when you mentioned the flowers. My cousin 87 arrangements. The funeral staff had the look of "Where do I put these?!" Some had to be placed in the lobby. When they were taken to the cemetery, the pile of flowers on the grave was about 3 ft high.

      Michelle Ballard I’ve done services where there are flowers in the hallway and all around the room! There are typically more flowers for a younger person. Sometimes you just have to put them where there is room!

    Your dog is just beautiful! You are so lucky to have him! Please treasure every moment you have to spend with him. My dog was the one true friend I had in this world, and now that he's gone I feel so lost and alone. He was hit by a car. I found out he was gone yesterday (Friday) morning, and I haven't been able to stop crying since. I don't know why I am telling you, a complete stranger, all of this, but after having watched so many of your videos I kind of feel like I know you! You seem so knowledgeable and compassionate. I think you do a very inportant job. I don't know how you deal with being surrounded by sadness and grief all day though. You must be a very strong person. If I were dealing with the loss of a loved one, I would hope that there was someone there like you to help me through it. You seem like such a kind person. I know that you are very busy, but if you have a moment, and you have a few words of advice for me on how to cope with the loss of my best friend I would really appreciate it. He was really my only friend. And I feel very alone in the world now, and I feel like my heart will never heal. I know that some people would say, "he was just a dog" but to me he was my whole world. I suffer from poor health, and I am often in terrible pain. And my dog (his name was "Munch") was the one ray of light and hope in an otherwise dark existence. On Thursday evening, I wasn't feeling well, and I was a little short with him. I had just taken some pain medication (I was in horrific pain) and all I wanted to do was lie down for a bit. But my "Munch" (who was full of seemingly boundless energy!) wanted to play. I snapped at him, and told him to go in the other room and lie down. ☹ He forgave me instantaneously (he came running right back in the room again a minute later! LOL) and I know that he understood, but I am just wracked with guilt over it and will probably NEVER forgive myself for it. I've been binge watching your video's today, and for some reason it has been helping me to feel less alone. I do apologize. I know that this is kinda long, but I hope that you will take the time to read this when you have a moment. It would really mean a lot to me. Please keep doing what you are doing! And know that you do make a difference in the lives of so many, including the people who subscribe to your channel. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos in the near future! Please give your dog a big hug and a kiss for me tonight and NEVER let an opportunity pass to tell/show him how much you love him! I feel that animals are superior to us humans in a way. Their capacity for unconditional love, forgiveness and compassion is so much greater than ours.

      Oh gosh your comment really hit home, I could have wrote this myself 🙀 my precious darling girl passed suddenly and unexpectedly last September and I have been wracked with all consuming guilt about absolutely every thing ever since ..from not having been able to save her, to not having spent more quality time playing with her whilst she was here..not having been able to get her a better vet.. all the times I was mad at her for destroying the house!..Having to leave her with someone whilst I was in the hospital ...those are just a few of the many things i feel guilt over! its a horrendous gut wrenching feeling and I know exactly how you feel❤
      I am so sorry I don't have any words of advice or wisdom for you but your comment resonated with me so much that I couldn't just read and run and i wanted you to know that you are *not* alone in feeling the way you feel, I know after I lost my girl I felt like the only one in the world feeling that way and it's an incredibly lonely feeling, especially when your furbaby was your one and only friend or family (as my girl was too🙀)
      I know it's easier said than done but be kind to yourself and try not to beat yourself up too much, and as painful as it is may be perhaps think of a special way to honour your beautiful boy, and If you're struggling for ideas have a little look online for inspiration and you can then personalise it for your munch❤ it could be absolutely anything.
      (I found this company on etsy who makes beautiful jewellery pieces imprinted with a picture of your beloved pet, you send them your favourite picture of your furbaby and they imprint the picture on to the necklaces with your babys name engraved underneath, I got one for my girl at Christmas, I wear it everyday and it brings me a little piece of comfort and is my small way of honouring my girl❤)
      Sending you a big virtual hug! 😚😌
      _Rest_ _in_ _paradise_ _beautiful_ _munch_ 🌈💖☄

    I love your channel. I couldn’t help but chuckle a little when you were talking about some preachers not riding with you. As a Southern Baptist I can tell you that your friend is being honest with you. The reason the preacher doesn’t ride with any female, that is not his wife, is to prevent any negative perception. My wife & I drive the church bus and our church’s rule of thumb is to have a male and a female, preferably a husband and wife, on the bus together as driver and co-driver. Keep up the great work and the great videos!

    I never tire of watching your videos. Thank you for all the insight you provide. I'm curious as to how all of the financial aspects actually work. For instance, unless it's a prepaid funeral, I'm assuming you bill the customer/ insurance at some point following the services, so before you receive payment how are all of the other expenses paid, such as the casket, vault, plot, printing, etc.? Are you billed for these at a later time or do you have to pay first and recoup these expenses once you receive customer payment? Which brings up another concern, what happens if a customer, after the fact, becomes unable or refuses to pay for the services rendered?

      David Matheny I think each funeral home is different. When my grandmother died in 2001 they refused to wake her til the insurance money came through. So it was a good 4 days after she passed before we had her viewing. When my ex husband passed 4 years ago the funeral home that handled his arrangements were wonderful and didn’t make us wait.

    In Scotland where i live. The burial used to take place on the third day after death usually. Now one has to wait around six days on average. Why i am unsure. It is a long time for a grieving family to wait.

    Awesome video, I like the idea of walking through a single call from start to finish - I would've thought it was a much shorter time from death to burial. This one sounds like it was about 5 days (Saturday - Thursday). I was thinking it was usually more like 3 days on average, but I guess if the person is embalmed, the time isn't quite so critical.

    Does the funeral home you work at allow loved ones to come in and do makeup if they want to? My sister in law asked that I do her makeup for her funeral right before she passed and the funeral home did allow me to do so.

    • @LittleMissFuneral
      @LittleMissFuneral  5 лет назад +40

      CarleyMarie B we would allow family to do the makeup. I have a lot of people request to do their loved one’s hair, but not as many requests to do their makeup. I think it’s wonderful when family members feel able to participate in a death this way, because these people know the deceased the best with regards to how they look. It’s a special gift that they can give.

      @@LittleMissFuneral I have an idea for a video for you. You need to do a vlog about sudden death and what families have to do. Of course the law is different from state to state. My mom's sister died suddenly in 2009 of cardiac arrest(at least that's what we think that happened. She was found dead in her home and had been dead for a week. We could not have an open casket visitation or funeral due to the condition of the body. ) Here in Virginia ,in cases of sudden death -the law enforcement has to do an investigation (they have to be sure that the person was not "murdered ")and an autopsy IS REQUIRED unless the person who died was "in hospice care"(like my dad was -he died in 2017,it will 2 years September 28th) It could be helpful.

    Thanks for your video. There is a lot that goes into a funeral. You said one of the funeral you did was already embalmed. I thought embalming would was done at the funeral home where there viewing is. Do you have a local casket company or do you have to order from batesville. Being catholic they are long. What is a funeral that you have done was your best.

      @Marilyn Rich It used to be custom many decades ago to photograph the deceased - now it seems to depend on opinions of the family. My view on death, and my resepect for the deceased is that i would photograph them. My grandparents died within 21 hours of each other (we say my grandma went to hold the gate open for my grandpa) and we had a dual viewing for them. My mother asked me to photograph my beautiful grandparents, the flowers, the photo posters. My mother was so grateful to have these photos as a last memory with them. However, the rest of my family was disgusted with me for photographing. All a matter of how we view death.

    What if a person has no money? My husband works but we live pay check to pay check. No savings.
    It all seems so overwhelming. I hope I don't have to deal with this anytime soon, but I'm scared because i have absolutely NO CLUE what I would have to do. Ugh it scares me!!

      blbrz8 that’s exactly what I mean! Body fluid can exit through any orifice, like a nose or mouth.

    What people may like to see and are in question of the first interview conference with the family, I know that you can not film the people and the interraction. What you might want to do is to get a friend to act like he is the family member and go thru the process of the conference with you asking questions and do what you normally do. Perhaps you could even mock up work on body somehow. I think your videos are great.

    Your friend is absolutely correct about some Christian Pastors. They often choose not to be alone with a woman to keep any sort of temptation from occurring. It’s nothing personal against you, it’s to keep any possibility of anything happening, or to keep from stumbling anyone else. This also goes for someone seeing them in a car alone with a woman. This could potentially stop from any rumors within the church. I see their point, but I also see why this might not be understood by others of a different or no faith. 🙃

      Sandra Monaghan It’s a slab the Casket sits on then a top, or “Lid” is put on to keep the casket from wetness. Most Cemeteries in the US require one.

    do you typically embalm the dead as a part of your job at the funeral home?

    • @LittleMissFuneral
      @LittleMissFuneral  5 лет назад +7

      Carolyn Burch I only personally embalmed for the first three years of my career. After that, I got a job with my current funeral home where I just do mostly “up front” work. But most of the services that we do at the funeral home involve the bodies of the deceased being embalmed.

    Your friend told you the very reason some Christian Ministers will not actually be alone with a women. Especially such a young and beautiful one like yourself. The bible says “ at all time we should avoid evil and the appearance of evil”. Someone in his congregation could hear you both laughing or just part of your conversation.... an though the grapevine it goes... I was the owner of a florist for 38 years, We served as many as 3 to 5 a day, when we were busy. We call the Casket Spray a boxtop.. I had a very friendship with our neighboring Funeral Home (s). We buried prescholl gratius. Family flowers included. My understanding that either is or should be standard procedure... very nice blog... my fav so far..

      B G it depends on the funeral home. Some will park cars for the drivers and some don’t!
