I wonder how in the world it cost less money for DNEG to do 150 shots for your project then to actually just put the actress and a cameraman in the real ocean lol
it's not always about money but getting what you want in the final result. cgi is flexible and can achieve almost anything if given enough time and expertise where practical effects look really good but it's very rigid and gives far less artistic controls and leaves less room for pixel fking if you've worked with clients.
