Born 1949, these Big L Pams jingles are just so nostalgic and evocative of the joy of being a teenager from 1964 to 1967, and were truly the ' soundtrack ' to our lives.I recall so well being away on a training course in Bletchley in mid August 1967, and instructing my mother to set my GEC 2-track tape recorder to record from 2.30 - 3.00p.m on the last day of Big L, the longest time the tapes would run without turning it over !.I still have the tape recorder ( fully restored ) and that EMI tape.It is difficult to realise the sense of forboding and loss of the end of the life of Big L, it was truly the best ' Pirate ' in my opinion. Thanks for this ' gold ' !.
I fully endorse these comments. Just writing my family story and that I would include a few paragraphs on the pirates especially Big L. Thanks Roger for relighting those memories
I started working for GPO TELEPHONES on 14 August 1967. I got to hear a recording of "Their final hour" as soon as I got on my bike and got to a friend's home. Many years later, my children couldn't understand the pain I still felt. I told them, think about if the government took away all you tapes, CD's and videos. I was pretty OK, as we still had Caroline, and Veronica. After Caroline's got towed it was a difficult time until RNI. Still listen to Caroline most days.
Worked with the weismuller tendering out to Caroline and big l my honour was in Feb 1967 taking out the first copy of Strawberry fields to the Galaxy great days
That is PAMS Series 18 "Sonosational" for the Amplitude Modulation Radio Station Wonderful Radio London from London, England, United Kingdom from 1961.
You're quite right, Dave. I took a couple of pictures before they took it down. The wall should have been protected, a wonderful piece of history. Speaking of history, I have a feeling you know of Ryde Radio?
I have seen the writing on the wall. Don't think I need anything at all. No! Don't think I'll need anything at all. All in all it was all just bricks in the wall. All in all you were all just bricks in the wall.
Pams jingles are the best!
46 years - and we still remember.
