    Thank you so much for this post! My Singer 6180 was exhibiting the very same error/issues. From my experience as a technician with much larger machinery, my initial evaluation said "free motor spinning with no load. Motor not connected to system (i.e. belt disconnected)". Searched Singer manuals/blogs/forums for hours and found NO mention of possible belt problems and NO mention of how to open the machine to evaluate. Finally found your RUclips post. After an hour+ of struggling/sweating/swearing, was finally able to open the machine (sacrificing a minimum of 1 plastic tab) . . . and guess what I found . . . the belt had fallen off. I reconnected and all was good again. This lack of documentation/guidance for troubleshooting/repairing what is apparently not an uncommon problem (not to mention the lack of accessibility to make the repair) will definitely make me reconsider Singer in the future. Thanks again.

    You have to pop it open hun. The belt runs around the crank handle on your right and down to a little gear /fan that spins inside. It's a pain in the butt, but way better than sending it out. You've got to take some screws out, and wiggle a Flathead inbetween the seam under the crank wheel. that's right where the belt is. if you can get in there, and get the belt back on without taking the whole thing apart, great...but I've had to do it a few times. if I can suggest using a stronger needle. that's why mine did it, now it shuts off before you hear that scary stripping sound haha. I hope this helps!

      Hey I have a fashionmate and I can't believe it I lost the shuttle trap door. Where the bobbin case goes. Do u know if this is a safety feature or not cuz someone else told me that the needle holder part wasn't goin up & down like it's supposed to in order to punch holes in the material. I need me another lid. Or to know if that's y it wasn't goin up n down like to sew. Pleae and thank u in advance

    Thank you so much. I was in the middle of a huge project. I had to wrestle with it a bit after I found all the screws. Pried it open and sure enough the belt was right there.

    Thank you so much, this was very helpful. My problem was with the belt too but it was more difficult to note because the belt was at the right place but at the bottom was just a little off to the right, 2 mm maximum. I put something to help the belt to not move to the right and now is a perfect working Singer.

    So I had the c4 and e7 error. I took off the top casing where you thread the string. I noticed that the thread was occasionally falling out of the silver loop as it moved up and down (I think it's number 4 in threading order). I've been sewing with the casing off and have had no problems until it slips out again. I re-thread the loop and it works.

    Hi ! If you could just upload a video pointing which screws and how to get in there with or without disassembling it, I speak english but I get lost in your explanation, I have my husband opening the machine but he can't get to it. I'd like to do it myself but I need to understand this better!! Thanks!

    • @kcdesigns3740
      @kcdesigns3740  8 лет назад +3

      Yes, I will make it as soon as I can. The first few times its going to be tough to open. There are plastic clips that you have to pop, but they'll lose up if you have to do it a few times. But I can try to explain from memory. On the back side, there's a screw under the handle part, and I believe another near the side spool pin. On the front(where it says singer and your thread cutter is) there are two. One is the cover screw and the other is in the front front of the machine. (Not either side, literally looking at it from the front) then, you'll see a long skinny tube like screw that has no threads. It does, but you can't see them yet. It has a slot, like a flat head screw would. Loosen that, but make sure you catch the washer that comes out which is to be placed between the screw hole and plastic before you put it back in. Then, flip it on to its side so you can see the bottom. You'll see that there are 4 screws for the feet, but two of them have screws out a bit further. You only need to take out those two. The ones not connected to the grey feet. Your going to have to pry it open the first few times. I just want to say that i don't work for singer nor am i responsible if something goes wrong. (It's easy after you have to do it a few times) but you need to focus more on the back part where your hand wheel is, because that's where the belt is. If you can pop it open even an inch, you can use a screw driver to quite the belt back on. When I get out if work tomorrow I'll make the video. Your not the first one who's asked. I will help the best I can. Let me know if you've got it, I just realized this comment is almost a month old. 😞

    The C4 error code DO mean the machine IS locked up. However, Singer, and many people for that matter, is/are NOT telling the whole story. This same issue came up with my daughter's last two Singer machines, this time with the Sew Mate (applies to models 5400/5500/6160/6180/6199). Curiosity striking again, I decided to clam it apart - what a pain! That is after hours toiling about I noticed that if you happen to turn the machine BACKWARDS (away from you), the platform where the dogs rest sort of falls backwards - by a very small measure. This falling back, interferes with the bobbin's (pendulum) mechanism, effectively locking the darn machines up! If you force it like I did, you may end up with the needle bar connecting rod (akin to a car engine's piston-to-crank connecting rod albeit at a minuscule scale) snapped in two and/or the hand wheel stripped.These parts are this/close to be living nightmares to find. IMHO, this is a blatant design flaw no doubt in my mind, and the main reason for thousands of broken sewing machines locking up. Yes, excess thread can and will eventually lock a sewing machine, too! However, for engineers at Singer to have ignored this issue for the ages could well be reason for a class action lawsuit!

  • @kcdesigns3740
    @kcdesigns3740  9 лет назад +2

    It's easier the more times you do it haha. you don't have to tear the whole machine down, just take out the casing screws and pop it open. you'll see when it's open where the belt goes. next time it happens to me I'll post it. please let me know if you get it. if not, I'll take mine apart, just for you. 😁 I'm not being sarcastic. I was bummed that no one could help me so that's why I made the video in the first place!!

    Wow, this machine is a mess. Does anybody else's machine sound like it is going to attack them when it get's jammed? or when the needle is ready to break, then throws the broken needle in your face? When I hear it coming, I jump up from the machine because I am afraid of having the broken needle tip fly into my eyes. They should recall this machine before somebody get's hurt and people start suing them. I have the 5560, that looks just like this one. Scary!!!

    • @kcdesigns3740

      I don't. but, I suppose I could do it. there's a few screws you have to take out, and not comes apart hard. couple snaps inside hold it together too, so you have to be kinda tough but as long as you take out the right screws, it shouldn't be a problem. you only really need to get into the side where the hand crank is, that's where your belt is or was. it's gotta get back on there. it's no problem to do once your in there.

      +Light Lum I've had this machine almost a year. if your going for thick fabrics, don't use the needles that came with it. get yourself a heavy duty needle, and a jean needle. you can find the details on singers website or in the manual of the machine. use a heavy duty needle and this shouldn't happen!! if it does, it's an easy fix.

    • @kcdesigns3740

      +Keti Mporta (Queti) I didnt, but you have to take out a few screws and open it up. Ive only ever gotten it half way open, (the side where the crank is, is where the belt has come off) but if you take out a few screws, youll have to pry the case open, and dont freak if you hear snaps, thats ok, because its held together that way too, but when you push them together they will snap again and all will be well. Literally all that it is, is the belt slipped off. so you take it, and just pop it back on, turn the wheel and it will go back on. snap it back together and your all set. THIS IS SOMETHING IVE LEARNED AFTER THE SECOND TIME get a heavier duty needle. the one your using isnt strong enough for what your trying to sew. common mistake. in the manual, and online, there is a needle guide that you can use, but i get a heavier duty needle and leave it in there. Im sorry, I just saw this comment, if theres anything else i can do to help, please let me know.
