To know Nicholson was to know a person full of charm, mischief, joy, and COMPLICATIONS. I enjoyed knowing him. I also knew Angelica. She is amazing, talented, courageous person.
@Nancy-tr5fi "Was"" & "enjoyed" as in past tense??? Both he & Angelica are still alive, as far as I know, or are you just no longer acquainted or friends with the both of them? No hate intended, just curious is all.
ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST is one of his best! Jack Nicholson in this movie was unbelievable. Let’s not forget THE SHINING. Jack has always been my favorite actor. He really is “the man” in acting. He’s hilarious!
Jack cheated on Angelica hundreds of times and often with her close friends during their relationship and his assumed sister turned out to be his mother. He had more issues than Newsweek.
One of kind, I've enjoyed his movies for years. He's one of the few actors that can get away with always being himself. Jack plays Jack, and we love him for it.
Being a fine actor means you’re good at pretending, at playing someone else. In real life, if you behave in this way, it’s regarded as being superficial, insincere. It’s a very strange career and in Hollywood especially, you mix with people who have very strange and superficial values, and who value image. It encourages people to sell their soul for minimal fulfillment. It’s the reason people like Marlon Brando had such a love-hate relationship with acting. He regarded it as frivolous but appreciated the money.
Nicholson is a genius but that final clip of Harrison Ford shooting the Arab almost upstaged him in this documentary. Can you even imagine anyone else in Cuckoo's Nest? That entire cast was golden!
Great supporting cast One flew over the Cuckoos Nest also with Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Louise Fletcher, and Will Sampson were great besides Jack. What I've learned as an adult from when I was a kid is don't put actors or actresses on pedestal or idolize them for they will wind up letting me down.
Nicholson was probably pretty close to his sleazy persona in 5 Easy Pieces. The winner there was Karen Black's vulnerable-slash-hilarious performance. There are two lines that I remember, one going to Nicholson and the other to Black: 1.) Nicholson's --- Rayette Depesto, Karen's high-teased-hair, sweet floozie character, constantly played Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man, an anthem for her self-sacrificing relationship to Nicholson. When she played it one time too many, Nicholson grabbed the record player arm, scratching the needle across the record and said, "You play that thing one more time and I'm going to melt it down into hairspray!" 2.) Rayette's comment about Nicholson's character's visit to his parents leaving her out...She says (something like) "I knew you needed to go in and feel up the situation..." Nicholson didn't have to do much acting in his rotter role in that film, but Karen Black was wonderful.
I watched this, hoping I could see what other people saw in him that made them like him. Unfortunately I couldn't. To me it still seems like he played the same part over and over and over. Glad he didn't get the lead part in Close Encounters because Richard Dreyfuss was fantastic in it. Same goes for Hans Solo and the Raiders of the Lost Ark series - no one could do them better than Harrison Ford. Those fabulous parts played by the two actors I mentioned would not have been as memorable had Jack played them. The characters would have all looked insane too. So I finished this video with the same opinion I came in with. I just do not like him. Once I left a cinema way before the movie ended, feeling like I had already seen it- One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. And thought I always liked Shelley Duvall I just couldn't bear having to watch him. I'm no one special but never a fan of his. You did a good job putting this all together. Thanks for your time.
Jack Nicholson is a brilliant actor, but also a controversial one. His life and career have both bright and dark sides, and I think this makes him a complex, interesting, and sometimes difficult character to discuss.
Well it's a good thing that Richard Dreyfuss knows how to work VERY WELL along with special effects without the fear of them upstaging him. He's done well in a pseudo Horror/Thriller Adventure as well as a Sci-Fi. BTW I completely loved him in Weeds.
Kirk Douglas was the first choice to play McMurphy because he owned the rights to the novel and the play. He had played the role on the stage and wanted to do it as a film but couldn't get it made. When he was too old to play the role , he either gave the rights or sold the rights to his son Micheal. That's how Michael Douglas won his first academy award as producer of One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest.
He was dating a Danish woman with whom he had a daughter, the woman said, that it was because he met Angela Huston that their relationship brook down. He assumed the paternity of the girl. At some point, the daughter wanted a dna test and it turned out, that he wasn't the father.
Diane Keaton wasn’t it that movie! Helen Hunt was the female lead. Perhaps you’re thinking of “Something’s Gotta Give”. I believe that was the only movie they made together
I have a friend I've known since we were 16 years old were both in our mid 50s now, Anyway I remember he thought his mom was his sister and his mom was his grandma, I don't know why But after he turned around 25 they decided to tell him, I personally thought it was kinda mean, I remember him crying hard over that.
They Left out The Departed which was also a Great MOvie, but NIcolson was more of a Supporting Role in that Movie- It was reallly Leonardo's DiCaprio's Movie as well as Matt Damon playing a Villaneous Role In many ways. The Departed was really an Ensemble Movie.
Hopper didn't mind with Phillips because as we all know she was a "Free Love Freak " back in the day. Nowadays they call that a slot. And you can't turn a HO into a housewife. Except Hopper failed to tell Nicholson that. No big deal, that's exactly what Jack wanted. Along with every other popular Rockstar and actor who wanted to hit that.
Ppl forget it was diffrent time his grandparents was protecting both his real mother and him has the was a sigmar attach too out of wed lock everybody time changed tho it was for his protection others would of treated him his mother family diffrent children need still do in today world protecting
I've seen many of his movies. The only movie I really liked him in was Witches of Eastwick. Maybe because he was playing himself. Otherwise, I'd much rather watch DiCaprio or Depp.
Please don’t use the phrase ‘looney bin’. It suggests that those who go for treatment at residential facilities are trash, to be thrown away, when they are not. You should know better- shame on you!
It's _very_ easy for me to picture Jack Nicholson playing Johnny Hooker in The Sting instead of Robert Redford. Nicholson playing a young, cocky, street wise, smartass con artist? Are you kidding me?
I've been a Jack Nicholson fan as far back as I can remember and I'm now 56, I thought I knew about everything about him, For him to basically turn his back on the one kid he had early in his career makes him an ass, Maybe there was a reason he did that.
Thanks for actually having a full story and not just repeating 5-7 facts over and over for a half hour. Good job!

I knew them year ago in San Francisco and she was lovely; him, not so much.
@@Juliet-y3g can you elaborate on it, pls?
Huston wasted her time with Nicholson. He toyed with her feelings.
He toys with every woman's feelings...just to get laid. 🤮
He used her as a prop.
@amitisshahbanu5642 a prop ?! PS: I'm not an american.

It's almost as if egregiously, publicly cheating on your wife/girlfriend was a job requirement for 70's male leading men actors.
exactly
Why do people assume it was such a big deal his mother pretended to be his sister? Big deal.
@@Aivottaja You mess up their psyche for life. That's why it's a big deal.
@@amialal4510 Explain how.

Maybe a fine actor but, in my opinion, not a great human being.
Him, along with about 95% of showbiz aren’t the best of humans 😂
Agreed. He is a narcissist par excellence!

@marlenadrew8334
You have just described 75%, (in reality, probably a much higher percentage) of those working in the entertainment industry.
Same. The more I learn about him the less I like him.
I always wondered about Jack Nicholson's life. Thank you for sharing 😊
He's quite the fascinating figure, isn't he?
@@Factinate Yes! One of my favorite actors actually, & now much to think about, especially with what his Mom & Grandparents pulled on him💔 wow
Jack did a great job in The Shining too also. That movie terrified me as a kid.
How sad, that fear was planted like a dark poisonous intruder in the heart of a child. I hope you are delivered from all of its effects.
Nicholson is a genius but that final clip of Harrison Ford shooting the Arab almost upstaged him in this documentary. Can you even imagine anyone else in Cuckoo's Nest? That entire cast was golden!

Nurse Ratchet had the most subtle torturer expressions.
That goes for ALL people. Everyone is fallible, even your parents. And in some cases, try not to take it personally.
Don't let it bring you down, it's only castles burning......................
Let's take a moment for Witches of Eastwick please. In an era when misogynistic behavior was expected, he elevated and supported instead.

Thank you!
I dont believe that he didnt know what Polansky was doing at his house.
Jack Nicholson may be a womaniser but he would not enable a paedophile.
The werewolf one with Michelle Pfeiffer, he played a shy man who was being bulled at work. It was completely different from his usual roles!!!
Wolf!
Admire his tremendous acting skills…No respect for his true personality.
Leonardo Di Caprio in his old age looks a lot like this guy.
Omg, he really does.
I'm pretty sure using Leonardo DiCaprio & his old age in the same sentence is a chargeable offense!!😂
That's his son 😂 just kidding 😅😅
@irenesmith7349 there was a rumor about that a long time ago, lol

A splendid actor! Loved his movies! ❤️
I'm sorry... did we just give Nicholson the credit for the costars awards?? Ummm no...they earned it.

He is an anti social. He dropped her as soon as her father died. That was it.

As for The Missouri Breaks the old cliche "Never meet your idols."

Is Merlin Brando friends with Marlon the Magician? 😅
He wrote some good movies in the early to mid and late 60s.
He's great at playing psychopath but that's easy
Ya, that is not right the way he treated Anjelica Huston. She really put up with a lot.
Is Jack Nicholson really losing his mind? How/
Lol.
There's nothing alleged about it - Polanski confessed and was convicted.
Who does the writing for these videos? They’re all over the place.
Nicholson knew everything that went on in his house! Come on!
6 words = 'somebody is having a baby' thats 5.

Who are his children? Did any of them become real Big in Show Business? I don't think so.
he still walks around his Mulholland drv estate naked?, he just ain't rehearsing!, for any roles?, he never leaves the place!.
The trip good movie
Just jump to 16:30 for the 6 words -someone’s going to have a baby - a waitress
Way to throw in some useless negative propaganda against Cuba and Castro. 🙄
