Fishing the urban jungle of Ottawa

- Its been years since I visited our Nations Capital in search of carp in this upbeat and urban environment. After 7 years Jarryd and myself decided to make the venture back to fish the canals and rivers encasing the city in hopes of finding some giant golden bars hiding in the depths of the city. We fish some of the most urban swims we could find along with some secretly hidden swims away from the hustle and bustle of city. With a little help from friends and some extreme perseverance we set out in search of the hard fighting carp the Canals and rivers of Ottawa are known for .
In my videos I target trophy game fish species from all across Canada. Focusing in Quebec and Ontario, fishing from the boat, on the Ice as well as days on the bank in the most secluded to the most Urban spots Canada has to offer. Fishing with friends as well as clients from across the country and the globe you can be sure to see all kinds of action as well as educative information to help you achieve catching your trophy of a lifetime.
Thanks again and I will see you on the next video! Don't hesitate to ask questions in the comments as well subscribe to my channel for more trophy freshwater fishing action!

I went fishing with my friend Maliah on Dow's Lake last year, and it was shortly before this video. I never knew about the algae bloom! That explains why we didn't catch anything.
Ya the algae usually makes the fish push to cleaner water elsewhere.
I worked at the US Embassy up at Sussex...for 4 years...just retired from there... a great place, but you have an amazing insight, especially for finding Carp...
Ottawa has such an abundance of carp and not very much catfish which I love.
Was nice meeting you thanks for the pic keep up the good work 😜🤟🎣
Thanks, you too! I got a little clip of you at the end of the video where we grab the pic together.
@@CastandConquer no problem and yea seen it aha thanks again 😜🤘🎣
good job !
Thanks
New sub here! From the other side of the pond in England 🏴
I’ll be over on your side of the pond fishing France in ten days.
@@CastandConquer the other side of the British Channel from me 😅 tight lines! France is home too some big cats and carp! But don’t discard other species because there’s plenty of them like pike, perch, zander and barbel!
@100fishingwithgeorgewhite9 I’ll be there for the world carp classic on lac de madine. I’ll also be fishing a few private lakes of a friend for the week leading up to the tournament and then wells catfish on the moselle river post tourney. I can’t wait it will be my third time over there fishing and doing the competition. Always a blast, I have the trip up in three videos on my channel from when we went in 2022.
@@CastandConquer oh, nice! Fingers crossed 🤞 for you!!
I’m just watching that now!
Brit here, spend six months a year in Ottawa, fishing the salmon run down near the GTA this week.
I thought that was you lol. Just stumbled across your video! Like & subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Nice ....
There was always a bunch in the pond off the canal by the Canal Ritz (Queen Eliz 4th/5th ave)
Thanks for the info
I’m surprised you didn’t fish in the inlets. You weren’t far actually. That’s where I caught my first carp. Good place for next time you in Ottawa is the Rideau river between beechwood bridge and Sussex bridge. I honestly seen a 40 lb carp while fishing for smallies 😊
Next time! I’ve heard about this spot as well but was told it was more of a spring time spot when the water was higher.
this is really cool, tried a different spot a few times at mooney's bay with no luck
I really think it’s a matter of fish being where you are fishing in the canal at the time. I’ve had a few crazy sessions at dows lake but that day in the video no luck. I think a feeding campaign helps a lot with success and fish being consistently in your area
good carp fishing in long sault ontario also, near the long sault parkway, there's a carp club down this way also
I fish long sault most of the time when I carp fish. But the Rideau canal is a favourite of mine to visit every now and then.
There are some very large carp around the ottawa near where the Rideau river ends.
20-40 lbs would not surprise people who know the river.
I know a fellow carp angler form Ottawa that fishes the Rideau frequently and he has landed them over forty pounds in the lower stretch. There are definitely some monsters in there.
There's plenty of catfish in the Rideau as well, you must do night fishing because many of the urban spots are heavily pressured.
Carp is pretty easy all throughout the river and canal though because few people deliberately target it.
Boat traffic is very high in the Canal, I typically avoid the area during boating season.
Not nearly the amount of cats that the Ottawa river has though
"Were at the mcdonalds at mecalfe and bronson"
Metcalfe and bronson don't intersect, and that's the prince of Wales mcdonalds. Lol.
I had no idea where I was. It was sarcasm I made up two names I knew in Ottawa and threw them together hahaha
@@CastandConquer 😂
I thought you are only able to use one rod per person in this region?
No it was changed 4-5 years back to 3 rods per angler with a license as long as you are targeting carp using plant based baits.
@@CastandConquer how bizarely specific. proof to me a committee was involved!
You know…there’s some really good shore musky spots in Ottawa.
The next time I do this style of video I’ll be doing a multi species adventure
Under the bridge between the nac and shaw center I watch and old fella pull some hogs out of there
Heck ya I’ll check that area on my next visit
1 pretty sure you can't camp there and 2 rods each nope ....anyways whant good spot goo behind the paper factory in mason Gatineau
3 rod limit
You can use up to three rods for carp in Ontario yes. Also my friend has been overnighting for years at this spot. So again yes you can if your white and don’t make an ass out of yourself.
As a fisherman who fishes Ottawa a bit, I was excited to watch this video. As a boater though, I just stopped watching. On outdrives, that line is likely to get in behind the prop(s) and damage the oil seals, polluting the water, damaging the lower units and requiring a haulout and $$$ to fix.
I understand that as a boater myself. But in my defense I was using backleads to pin my line to bottom. I’m just guessing one may of been a little higher and once one was caught it whipped out all the lines. He would have had a mess on his hands with those 3oz leads banging around in the prop.
That type of spot would be very bad for my blood pressure...
It’s tough and challenging but the rewards are there in that first swim. It was my favourite swim for years. I’ll need to go back for redemption once the water cleans up.
@@CastandConquer boaters have a very limited brain capacity. I don't have the patience anymore...
9:07 he farted
He certainly did
More like he shit himself😂
@speedlinerc62 he checked he said he was good
2 rods each? Isn’t this against the rules?
If you’re specifically targeting carp you can bait with corn and use 2 rods
You can actually use 3 rods per person while carp fishing in Ontario. As long as your using plant based baits while targeting solely carp
It went up to three rods for carp recently
It’s been 4-5 years now in Ontario with the three rod rule
@@CastandConquer you are right! Just looked into it. I never target carp so it was a easy thing for me to miss
