  • Our trusty Nissan Double Cab Camping Equipped 4x4 has a scenic drive along the D707 road, one of the most beautiful roads in Namibia, on our way from Klein-Aus-Vista to Sesriem, in the Namib desert. This was a part of our 6,400 km (4,000 mi) and three week Namibia-Botswana road trip.
The legendary D707 road in southern Namibia is one of the most beautiful drives in the country. It passes through a vivid landscape on the route between Sesriem and Aus. Its nicknmame is ‘Dream Road’ for good reason.
The D707 branches off to the west from the C13 between Aus and Helmeringhausen in southwestern Namibia. It runs in a bend towards the northwest/north for 120 km (75 mi) until it joins with the C27 road around 160 km (mi) south of Sesriem.
We drove the D707 road from south to north on our way from Aus to Sesriem and the Namib Naukluft Park (B4-C13-D707-C13-C27 roads). You can take less inspiring C13/C27 instead of the D707. C-roads will be faster but you miss the scenic landscape and fun drive experience. You just need to have a good car, and be especially prepared and careful when driving the D707 and other backroads.
The vast majority of roads in this remote country are gravel. Gravel tracks become rougher and rockier in more remote areas.
The most important Namibian highways from north to south and east to west have two lanes are in good condition. These major highways are tarred A and B roads. You are allowed to drive at a maximum speed of 120 km/h on these paved roads.
Secondary C and D roads are mainly untarred, gravel or dirt roads, with normally a speed limit of 80 km/h. C are major roads, D are often the smaller connecting roads. D roads are maintained and graded (smoothed) less often than C roads.
P roads are private access roads to farms that tourists do not usually use.
Remote roads of Namibia provide an ultimate driving experience.
