Why they think this is a good idea or will even work is beyond me. NFTs are basically already dead as a concept and recognized as the scam they are. It legitimately sounds like the higher-ups just pushed for a crappy version of an existing game to be made, to jump in on the (already dead) trend.
For a second there I was sure it’s going to be an oldschool maple server, what a let down.

Sounds like its gonna be infested with botters/hackers. It incentivizes having a machine checking which fields have items stacked up and instantly going there. Maybe it works in regions that are SSN locked but tbh this seems kinda... unnecessary?

What is the benefit of making these items NFTs? How is that significantly different than just allowing you to trade your items in the main MapleStory servers? Those are already items that I “own” and are “unique”?
Also, anyone who is thinking they are going to make money playing MapleStory N and doesn’t already own a sizable MapleStory bot farm is fooling themselves. They aren’t even making it hard for bots to farm out since the locations with the most loot are marked on the map. So it’s going to be solely on Nexon’s bot detection.

Despite a lot of the contention around NFTs and such I think this project seems quite interesting overall from what I've read, maybe they can do something cool with it... emphasis on the maybe. Either way, I'm glad they're at least trying this separately instead of just forcing NFT stuff into the base game.
There is still the possibility that will come later and this is just to test the waters..
@@rjtablet Maybe, but I kinda doubt that to be honest. If Maplestory N or whatever takes off and actually does great, they'll probably just keep working on it, I don't really see a benefit to them pushing those changes to the base game if the player bases are separate; If the whole thing just fails, they'd probably just drop the idea since it'd clearly not be working out as intended. Who knows though, it could go any way, we'll just have to see.

Semi-interested despite the NFTs. Limited-supply MS does sound kinda neat and unlike all the other crypto games, this is an actual game. Then again, it is Nexon and I wouldn't get suprised if all the NFT items were 10,000% better than any drop.
Every item is an NFT, so you won't have to worry about NFT items being 10,000% better.

As a fellow NFT hater, I am cautiously optimistic about MapleStory N. Reboot's anti-P2W stance is super appealing, but the monetization still revolves so heavily around predatory loot boxes, which is way worse on Reboot thanks to the inability to trade the contents. As someone who's been waiting ages for an old-school server, while I know this probably won't be it, there are a number of things that look really appealing in that respect.
It's a complete fresh start server. Hyperion was the first 'fresh start' MapleStory had in nearly a decade, but the cross-server events diminish that fact significantly- I'm consistently made jealous of legacy content (BugCat, Attack on Titan, etc). And these events are the primary social interaction the game has now.
It's teases being a oldschool/progressive server. The showcase of Explorers-only, with no 5th/6th job skills suggests that while it's not a full old-school server, it's something akin to it, or possibly a 'Progression' server where we'll get to retrace the content updates from the game's origin. I'm super curious what the rates are, and if it'll be slower paced- I hope so.
It's possibly a perfect mix of Reboot and Classic. There's no cash shop, and no presale NFT junk- you should hopefully be able to ignore the NFT elements of the game entirely. It has the solo progression element of Reboot with the 'Local Item' restrictions- no trading, no limits (albeit 'no enhancements' is concerning) while allowing you to buy rare cosmetic items on the open market if you want them, /without having to gamble for them/.
It's also my personal running theory that MapleStory Worlds is going to be part of Universe exclusively (rather than a Worlds/World N distinction). If we should be blessed to get MapleLand, or an equivalent, the idea that everybody will be running classic F2P characters unless they own NFTs (compared to the free account customization in KMS Worlds) should ironically give it a way more classic feel.
I'm excited for this 🔥 Really think this could be the future of Maplestory becoming a bigger global brand -- it'll cause some choppiness while the tech is being ironed out, but I think this may be the best way for Maplestory to scale.
This specific project is going to implode. NFT gaming has never worked. Players hate being scammed.
Very interesting implementation, yes I know NFTs are very hated since the hype around them has been rather loss making for the vast majority, however this can create a good market. Although it should be said that Pay2Win or Pay2Progress is very much in the foreground here. If you consider CSGO items, which are offered at incredibly high prices, they are cosmetic, whereas MapleStory items give you really strong access to the wider content. With the fact that you can fight strong boss monsters to get them, I hope that it won't come to a situation where people with a lot of money will be the only ones who keep the possibility to farm them to get even more money. Simple capitalism. I am curious.

MapleStory also offers a much better gaming experience when you consider the gamification aspect. All the previous NFT games were rather..... shit

The fact that you can't buy NESO is interesting, my first thought was, how do they finance the development? However, it will probably mean that every purchase or sale will be accompanied by fees. But how will Nexon monetize these fees if you can't buy NESO in the first place?
4:05 sounds like you will be able to purchase Neso from other players thru some marketplace. I agree that microfees could be collected, but prob for economic control rather than direct profit. As for monetization, I don’t think Nexon can use Neso like a security and sell for capital due to regulatory laws (for now), but if “Play2Paid” hype can add active users, then corporate valuation go up, stock price go up, exec pay go up. All for the very costly investment of printing a Neso /s

There's a lot of stigma surrounding crypto and Nfts because of influencers, scammers, and people who lost money, BUT crypto/nfts aren't bad things at all. Just like with any form of investing or finance related stuff, you have to do your own research and know what you're getting into.
This could actually be a cool way to monetize the game that we all love for players.

NFT and web3 raises a huge amount of red flags for me. This idea is begging to be swarmed by bots, too, considering how common bots are in regular maplestory.
This doesn't make me want to play any more than the KMS Aran "remaster" does. Knowing my main will lose its identity and take a huge hit to our total damage.

This version is doomed to fail. Player driven economy is always lopsided. People who played 10 hours a day straight beat the f2p players who play a few hours a day.
Limiting end game items and basically putting an auction. Which can be subverted into basically a money auction does not make it f2p. It awards the person with the most bank accounts.

As an mmorpg gamer owning your own asset seems obvious to me. every mmo or even games like counterstrike have secondary sales that rely on black markets and hoping not to get scammed. all nfts are in a legit game is putting the in game item into a wallet that you control outside of the game rather then it going into your game account where the devs have full say with what happens to them. if that makes sense
