The illustration @12:25 is the Battle of Ridgeway when the Fenians invaded Canada to try to take it as a bargaining chip for a free Ireland. They were Irish American Civil War veterans backed by the US government who thought that Canada would then simply be absorbed by the US. The invasion was the impetus for the formation of Canada in 1867. My house is built on part of the battlefield. A neighbour found the rusted metal remains of an old pistol from that era when digging his garden. (Bodies have also been found in the area from the war of 1812. In 1987 the bodies of 28 American soldiers were found here at the Lake Erie shore here). I don't think I've ever seen a video that even mentioned the Fenian Invasion and don't think a lot of Canadians even know about it.
Here in Nova Scotia, I remember learning about the Fenians in Junior High, but they were called the Fenian Raids. And that is about all I could tell you about them.😁 I believe the raids were a plot point in a couple of the Murdoch Mysteries episodes. Kinda cool, about finding the old pistol.😊
@@dougwilson4537 - A friend wrote the definitive book about the "raids". Just one more attempt by the US to annex Canada. The "200 years of a peaceful border" is 💩. And just as I thought . Oh well, thanks for your interest in Canada Aussie Tash . Vancouver is the California of Canada. All within a 15 minute drive of my place. You can hike the north shore mountains if you like, through demonstration forests with massive trees and groomed paths. There are bike pathways all across North Vancouver if that's your thing. The quality of life here is amazing. Oh and yes I have run into Yogi Bear a few times, he says hello.

There are plenty of videos about it online (such as Fascinating Horror's), and it's quite an interesting story that you might like to check out! My folks were from Montreal and always loved pea soup.🥣 Not to my taste though.😖 I do agree with you about French Onion. One of my favourites, especially if it has been made with Port wine.😊
We're kind of pulling people's legs a little about the Canada geese. In reality, for the most part, they will just do their own thing and behave like any other bird. But, during mating and nesting season, and when they have goslings, they can be aggressive and territorial. And that's usually when people get "attacked".
Canadian geese are not the evil animal they are made out to be. They are territorial, especially when they have their babies around. I was in a park yesterday, there were about 30 geese there, I walked right through the flock and they just moved a bit to let me pass. Canada geese like Canadians, they don't attack us much unless we ask for it.

Hi Tash to answer some of your questions. The guy said Québec City was never breatched the walls weren’t, but, in 1759 the most important battle in Canadian history happened when English General Wolf beat French General Montcalm on the Plains of Abraham outside the walls of Québec City. France ceded New France (Québec) and Ile Royale (the Fortress Of Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island) to Britian. Both Generals died in the Battle of Québec which started Canada’s journey to nationhood. Canada has rattlesnakes, the massasauga rattlesnake found in Ontario primarly on the eastern shores of Georgian Bay and the Bruce Peninsula, 4-5 different rattlesnake species in Western Canada. Vancouver Canucks fans rioted when they lost to Boston Bruins in 2011
The walls around Quebec of today were raised in the 19th century under English rulership. Built about the same time as the Rideau Canal(the only canal in the world built for military reasons), and Fort Henry in Kingston.
That's not entirely true, actually. It was very few Vancouver Canucks fans that did the rioting, it started with them, but quickly got out of control - please don't forget the thousands of Bruins fans also. And just as a side note, I'm really not sure why everyone calls out Vancouver, because Montreal rioted just 2 years ago. And, they've had more - way more. The truth is, there's a whole long list of NHL fan bases rioting, so not sure why there's such a focus on one that happened 12 years ago
@@michaeldowson6988 The ramparts were never raised. From the 1820s to 1830s, the British expanded and improved the ramparts and the rest of the city's defensive network. Love your Quebec Remparts jersey. To older Canadians that is the Quebec junior team that produced Guy Lafleur. Guy Lafleur was the mainstay of the powerhouse Montreal Canadians NHL team of the 70’s. Nicknamed "the Flower" and "Le Démon Blond" (blond demon) he was easy to spot racing in on goal with his blond hair streaming behind him. This was the era before helmets and the age of long hair, so it was quite a spectacle. If you go back another era, goalies didn’t wear masks either.

Nobody under 80 calls a sofa a chesterfield in Canada. Vancouver Canucks fans rioted after the Canucks lost in the Stanley Cup finals in 2011. Sweet pup! What's his name again?
Terry, I grew up in Ontario and children who had an English Canadian parent in the 60's/70's and possibly 80's, still referred to a sofa as a chesterfield. (I believe you are from Quebec so it might be a different story.) My mother was 3rd generation Irish/Scottish Canadian and always referred to a sofa as a chesterfield. So did my friend's parents, and so did all the kids. I believe it was In the 90's when my mother started using the word 'couch'. I still catch myself on occasion referring to a sofa as a chesterfield.😀
Well I'm around 60, and I still call it a chesterfield😁 And, I also use the word couch, if it is a smaller piece of furniture, but would only use the word sofa if it were a sofa-bed, or pull-out-bed. But, I am from the Maritimes, and old phrases seem to hang on around here, a lot longer than elsewhere in the country,😊
@@dougwilson4537 Doug, you are right. My mother actually had a 'sofa bed'...and a smaller 'couch'. And that is how she referred to both of them - but only later in life. We used all those terms. Never had any problem with the geese even very close. I actually love them! They are wonderful to see and to ear in the sky. They leave when winter arrives and come back for spring. A beautiful natural sign of season changing 😉
Aw, it's wonderful seeing your cute pup. I believe you're right when you said the CN Tower is no longer the tallest free standing building in the world.
Tash I think Canada Geese are getting a bad rap! I notice it seems to be more people from Ontario are not wild about them. I have always loved them, right from childhood. I have never ever been attacked by one, any many times have been in the midst of a fairly large flock. Like any animal if you treat them with respect you have nothing to fear. In spring one should be alert and steer clear of nesting geese, they most certainly will protect their young. I have had a few actually bring their fuzzy yellow goslings right up close to me. After an initial warning hiss from one parent ( not to try anything funny ) . I always have a bag of cracked corn, I get from a wild bird feed store. They love it. Once they identify you, they never forget you. My son has a small flock that has greeted him for years at work ( about 8 ) they wait by his parking spot daily for their treat. When he’s been on days off. They honk at him, that they are not pleased by his absence. A couple land in our back yard every spring, and after having a few days of eating, they fly further north to their nesting grounds, but always stop by again in the autumn, getting ready for their migration south. For me, the most beautiful sound in the Spring are the hundreds of geese overhead, honking and announcing spring. The saddest sound in the Autumn is hear them in formation flying south and saying good bye. Tash you just have to watch the movie. “ Fly Away Home “ starring Jeff Daniels and ( Winnipeg born ) Anna Paquin. It is a true story and you get to see our Canada Geese.
Yonge Street is indeed the longest street in existence. It is 56 km long. Now the trick to it is not all of it is in Toronto. Even when it leaves the city limits into the country it's still Yonge Street. Every village, town and city it goes through, it is STILL Yonge Street! I believe it finally comes to an end when it meets up with the American border. Cheers from 🇨🇦.
Yes! The “Canadian Geese” thing drives me crazy, like we own them Lol. Tash has sorted out pronouncing Quebec so hopefully she’ll get the Canada goose naming straightened out. That’s a beautiful puppy too!🥰
Canadian geese... have an exaggerated reputation. I don't mind the geese, but I'm also likely to give them room if we're both "walking" in the park. They can be mean, but in my lifetime, and I'm no youngen, I've never actually seen one attack (me or anyone else) in real life. I... have not heard of any of those superstitions. Heck, most of those facts were a bit... obscure, I hadn't heard many of those.
Canadian geese would be any geese from Canada, but Canada geese/goose are a particular kind of goose from Canada. Rattle snakes(a few different species) are the only poisonous snakes of many kinds of snakes in Canada. The American(as in North America) Bald eagle ranges from Canada south to Mexico(not just the USA) .Lacrosse was an ancient indigenous came but the official rules in modern times were officially set by a Canadian. The RCMP seemed to really being trying to eradicate the Inuit culture. Yonge ( like young) starts from Lake Ontario in Toronto in the south and goes north for approx. 56 kilometres. Aussi Tash you're going to have to stay for about a month to see all that you want to, and bring plenty of cash, too as travel can be expensive here - but I'm sure many of your Canadian followers would be happy to put you up for a night or two as you get around :) !
I'm 70 and have lived in at least 20 cities and towns in 4 provinces (and 1 state) but have never heard of any of these superstitions nor do I have any superstitions that I can think of.
No one aside from rich snons cares about lacross. I was 38 before I ever saw a lacross game on tv, and only mediammention of lacross I ever heard as a youngster was an episode of Law&Order about a ricj snobby family whose spoiled sons kill their parents.
Vancouver has had 2 Stanley Cup riots after losing in game 7 of the final - in 1994 (NY won) and in 2011 (Boston won). I found myself in both. It was very bad. There have been others. See Montreal.
As a Canucks fan, I was not only heartbroken from the loss but completely embarrassed by the actions of some. Maybe if the calls were fair, people wouldn’t have been so angry. But we haven’t been the only Canadian team to be screwed over by bad calls. I watch all playoff games and Canadian teams regularly get terrible calls which can completely change the momentum of the game. It’s been 30 years since a Canadian team has won the cup and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Bettman has been the commissioner since then. He’s a weasel. Can’t wait for him to retire.
Congrats on hitting 4 K subscribers! We have wild turkeys in our area and in one neighbourhood there is 1 who has become famous. He 'owns' one block. He monitors the street, walks up and down the road blocking traffic and attacking the odd car. He has been named and has made the local entertainment news. The odd time in other neighbourhoods you will see multiple birds and they have been know to put people back in their cars as they stand in their driveways. They were once extinct in Ontario but were reintroduced in the 80s.
It's ok Tash, even some Canadians dislike ketchup chips. I tried one for the first time this year, at age 61, and I strongly disliked it. It doesn't taste anything like ketchup to me.
I don't like them either. They don't taste like ketchup. On the other hand, Lays makes a tomato flavour that actually does taste like ketchup and isn't bad.
The riot was in Vancouver when the Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins. Which is odd, since before then we had a tendency to riot when we won rather than lost. HA!
The riot was in Vancouver when the Canucks lost - I know people who were in Van that day, and they all locked up in hotels and wherever they could hide.
Geese aren't too bad usually those videos you see people have done some something to instigate it I've walked through big huge flocks of geese untouched with my kids I might add
Currently the Calgary Stampede is going on. Check out the history when you can. I believe the riots in 2011 were in Vancouver after the Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup Final.

Oooo. Start the controversy in the comments by admitting you like pineapple on pizza. 😂 (you're not alone. It's one of my favourite pizzas) haha Hope everyone is taking care. Edit: the hockey riots came from the calgary flames final game, many many years ago. There was a goal "scored" (it was a goal, i watched the game) either the final period (or overtime, i dont remember someone else can correct who follows hockey more than i do) and calgary ended up losing that game because of that bad decision from the refs. *just my own personal opinion*
That riot was in Vancouver, the Maple Leafs are Toronto’, also I think the whole idea that the riots were entirely to blame on Vancouver Canuck’s fans is a false narrative, there were a lot of people just there to cause trouble, Vancouver fans get a lot of heat for this. Montreal fans are worse, by a mile
It's weird that after so many years, the CN Tower (which is a structure rather than a building) remains nearly twice as tall as any building in the entirety of Canada. P.S., Tash, the origin of peanut butter is extremely disputed.
If you’re interested in riots you should research the October Crisis of 1970, the recent “Truckers” convoy in Ottawa, and while you’re at it check out the story of Pierre and Maggie Trudeau, the parents of our current PM.
Canada has made its side of Niagara Falls into a trashy, kitschy tourist trap. It's be like the USA putting Vegas right against the Grand Canyon (which, of course, it didn't).

So they mentioned Benoit but not Bret Hart or Chris Jericho or Roddy Piper? lol
have not heard of these superstitions, if they exist it is for giggles.
Yonge street is pronounced like Young street. At least everyone I have ever heard say it says it that way. LOL
I have never heard of these "Canadian superstitions." I guess they're not a thing in Northern Ontario.
Canadian Geese aka Canadian Cobra Chicken 😂
My wife's favorite pizza was ham and pineapple with shrimp added.
Shrimp?!? This comment ruined my day.
@@VeryCherryCherry sorry to hear that your day is so fragile
Those hockey riots were in Vancouver, not TO. My nephews live in Vancouver and they told me it was chaos.
Canada goose (or Canada geese) is the common name.
Yes! The “Canadian Geese” thing drives me crazy, like we own them Lol. Tash has sorted out pronouncing Quebec so hopefully she’ll get the Canada goose naming straightened out. That’s a beautiful puppy too!🥰
Tash, you gotta try that pizza with smattering of hot peppers... incredible!!!
We have magpies, they have never bothered me or anyone I know same as the Geese I’ve never known anyone to be bugged by them
Canadian geese... have an exaggerated reputation.
Especially the superstitions.
Aww Aussie Hash ..Canadian here... Loveya
We're going to need a video of you returning the dirty dish to your MIL, Tash
I miss my Alaskan Maibut, Rio :( he was a good buddy
If you ever come to Canada and got to Niagara Falls and take a tour under the falls....bring a sweater because it's cooler under ground. LOL
Also don’t forget George Street in Newfoundland that has the most pubs on it
Mazikeen like from Lucifer?
As a canadian, those food items are...questionable. Salmon Jerky?!?!?!
You are missing out on donairs, Halifax n.s. and east coast favorite

Canada Geese....cobra chickens is another name...Ozzyman uses that term.
The riot was in Vancouver when the Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins. Which is odd, since before then we had a tendency to riot when we won rather than lost. HA!
Suggestion ....watch ...tears are not enough- northern lights (making of) with names
Nanaimo bars are a diabetes vector. They're hella sweet.
Currently the Calgary Stampede is going on. Check out the history when you can. I believe the riots in 2011 were in Vancouver after the Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup Final.
Is this the one where an Australian and Canadian were kissing in the middle of the riot?

Love your Husky, my new adopted girl Hannah (I lost my last rescue Max in April to heart failure) is German shepherd?(Doberman?) Husky. She's stubborn and loves to talk back and argue with me.
Aussie Tash you should do a video of the sled dog slaughter in BÇ a few years back.I believe it was at Whisler. So very sad.
Well not washing the dish will be bad lock cause momma won't make you anything more lol
Hi Tash; bacon cologne?
Aussie Tash you have a beautiful dog💕I think the Canada Geese are getting a bad rape my Border Collie & I walk with the CG daily we don’t bother them and they don’t bother us they just like to honk at us😊they fly south around the end of Sept/Oct and return to Canada in the spring the winters are even too cold for them😉
I didn't know the empty/clean dish thing was a superstition. I just thought it was good manners. 🤷♀️
Other famous Canadians include Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman. Another famous Canadian invention is Imax.

Morning Tash. I just recently joined Discord. But I don't have permission to send a message. What am I doing wrong?
Dont know when or who made this, but including Benoit is just.... wrong. Might as well include Paul Bermardo. The reason Benoit is 'the latewrestler' is he killed his 7yr old son, his wife and himself. Not exactly someone to praise.
The Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup and stupid people did a really stupid thing. Terrible for Vancouver and it's fans. They might have footage you can see😊✌🇨🇦❤
I cant stand Ketcup Chips either!
Oooo. Start the controversy in the comments by admitting you like pineapple on pizza. 😂 (you're not alone. It's one of my favourite pizzas) haha
Hope everyone is taking care.
I think you'd be awesome to party with lol.
Hahahahaha ya we riot when we win! 😂
You named your male dog after a female demon on tv series Lucifer.
They deliberately refer to the CN Tower as the world's tallest "free-standing structure" because that is distinct from "world's tallest building".
It's weird that after so many years, the CN Tower (which is a structure rather than a building) remains nearly twice as tall as any building in the entirety of Canada.
P.S., Tash, the origin of peanut butter is extremely disputed.
it was patented in 1884 in Montréal but I’m sure the Indiginous people in the Americas were eating it or something like it for 1,000s of years
Oh 'lil SilvanaDil, it's weird how you suffer from so much Canada envy, get over it junior or seek help! 😜
We did that just so that reprobates like you don't cross our border! Coney Island, Atlantic City, Vegas, the trifecta of kitsch! 😛
And again with the negativity.
Although it is nice that you think that Niagara Falls is the equivalent of Las Vegas.🤣🤣
@@dougwilson4537 - not really. Vegas is a tourist trap, but the money it makes blows Canada's tacky side of Niagara Falls away.
@@SilvanaDil I think you missed my laughter at the end of my comment.😁

Just curious, are you Canadian? Or American? If Canadian, is your beef with Canada as a country? Or, is it with the current government? If it's the latter, then I'd suggest not to conflate the current government, which I also despise, with Canada as a whole.
