I knew there was a lot of beatboxing and other vocal percussion in this song... BUT I did not know HOW MUCH I WAS MISSING!!!
In the studio mix, a lot of the rhythmic vocal genius of MJ is so well-blended with the masterful musical arrangement that you can't hear the full detail.
There are lots of loops and synth-based percussive elements in this one... Maybe more than any other Michael Jackson song I've reviewed so far.
Well... In this listening session, we give the instrumental a good listen through AND we go back and hear all the beatboxing and percussive masterpieces that have been previously hidden!
MJ's copyright owners will allow this video to remain on youtube but there must be consistent use of frequent stops. No one part of the the song in part or in whole can be played without frequent interruptions. This is partially why I stop and comment and sing during and after key sections that I play. If I just play the files, the video will be taken down. Presenting the files in this format with this kind of flow cements the FAIR USE intent which is why it can remain up on RUclips. Along these lines, I can not reveal where or link to the source files or I'll get a takedown notice as well. Giving away content that is not mine to give also falls outside of FAIR USE intent. Thanks for understanding and for enjoying the video! I'm excited for you to hear all the wonderful nuances!
So you illegally acquired this is what you’re saying? 🤔
* completely understand Chris...I'm still not sure if 98% of the people that actually listen to Michael Jackson have ANY idea of how far ahead of his time he was...the original creator of "auto-tune" done simply through talent...☝🏽💜
ruclips.net/video/umxTVUC7MfE/видео.html
Please find and analyze songs from Invincible album too... I'm sure they're more complex....
even if he did, he is blessing the people 🤫🤫🤫🙈🙉🙊
That explains all the talking. I was getting frustrated with watching the video because of it.
As one of Michael’s collaborators on the choreography for 2 BAD, I am honored to say I feel it’s some of our best work!
Hi Travis!
Love you always Travis! 2 Bad choreo is a masterpiece! Totally iconic! Thank you for everything ❤
The choreography is amazing. You guys did a wonderful job! One of my favorites!
Smooth Criminal is the best choreographed music video of all time. It even surpasses Thriller in my opinion.
Трэвис, ты лучший! 🙏 Hi from Russia! ❤️
People laugh at me when i say Michael Jackson was underrated as an artist, but it's true. So much of what Michael did just gets lost and relegated to 'pop star', and it's infuriating when you know he was far beyond that. He never ceases to amaze me.
Mike is music straight up. Mike was soul r&b hip hop, rock, heavy metal, blues. He had every element in his music not to mention his directing and producing abilities
@@brodylanetx Agreed. Man was a straight up instrument not to mention he could tap dance which a lot of people don't know
That's what happens when you are great. Greatness is not easily understood by the masses.
Yeah Prince fans tend to laugh when people say that
@@realamericannegro977 I find the further you explore an artists discography, you get a complete picture of their range and vocal capabilities. To those who haven't delved into Michael's work extensively, it's easier for them to be dismissive or critical as they've only listened to 2% of his 40+ years as an artist. What he accomplished in that time is hard to explain in words.
Just the fact that Michael passed away 13 years ago and recorded this song some 25 years ago, and we are "Studying" his music, learning, appreciating and getting inspired by each and every track of ad-libs which probably he recorded mindlessly within a span of a few seconds, entirely new generation of musicians and artists are getting inspired by him including me.
Not sure if any other artist of today's generation (no disrespect to anyone) will be having this kind of impact after decades and decades.
"Greatest education in the world is to watch and study the masters at work", he said,
yes Michael, we are doing that right now.
Chris, Thanks a lot for doing this.
The legend never dies. Forever Michael
I've always been fascinated to get to know this creative side of Michael, and I've been studying it for a long time. The little I learned was by copying his genius. The big leap for me was the hearing ability that increased enormously. Today I'm stuck with music production, but I'm always looking at how people are discovering their genius, after a long time.
Nah he didn't record many things mindlessly in a span of a few seconds. He works on his tracks like a blacksmith and refine it over and over till he achieves what he wants.
@@realamericannegro977 Yes sir Michael was a workhorse!
UNFORTUNATELY... NONE
anyone who says mj was overrated is delusional. 70 layers? This song is massive and he is singing ALL of his lead mids and backgrounds
History is a great Album. When it came out in 1995, 2Bad was from beginning one of my favourites Songs.
@@lenawagner3664Same. And somehow the song is even cooler today. ❤
JESUS CHRIST. No instrument at one point, all him and it sounds so complete. Even better maybe. This man was a walking jukebox
Incredible !!
Unlike anything I've ever heard! A walking jukebox - perfect way to describe him!
This is how he would demo his songs, so all these so called demo's out there are just different takes in the studio.
Most of the time he would beat box into a tape recorder. Although I have heard one with Janet Jackson playing glass bottles on one song on the off the wall album
Definitely better 😭
This proves MJ is the architect of modern music
I like that description: Michael Jackson is the architect of modern music and, I would add, it's roots are Black.
@@matthewpettway3864ofcourse the roots are black. You can hear the tribal Rhythms. I’ll say African and native because Native American music is heavy on the drums and beats as well
HIStory is, in my opinion the most underrated Michael Jackson album for many reasons. On top of that, 2 Bad is one of the most underrated tracks on the album.
I can and will not say it enough. Michael Joseph Jackson is the best artist ever in every way.
Because Michael lived through his job. And his job wasn’t just singing, songwriting and dancing. It was art, emotion, messages, paint, poetry, and trying to make a change.
He broke racial barriers back then, he united and still united every generation with his art and leaves messages for every generation to come.
It’s my opinion.
Period! ❤
Amen
A sonic artist who could paint pictures though his music, at times.
PLEASE GET TABLOID JUNKIE! The beat boxing on it is INSANE!
And church part
Yesssss! Tabloid Junkie!!!❤🙏
I'd never heard of that song. I looked it up and WOW!!!
People underestimated Michael as a musician just because he didn't play instruments.
Those who worked with him said that he had the melody/the riff/the beat etc in his head. He usually made demo of the songs he wrote by beatboxing to everything, commanded everything that should be done by the instrumentalist. That's how he overcame his limitation. People just want to follow what the media say to undermine his talent as a musician (and to bully him heartlessly). Only those with clear minds and no hatred will appreciate his real talent.
Bro Michael could play instruments... he could play the guitar. Bt where he's best is piano. Ofc no one's saying he's Prince. Bt he definitely has his OWN category as an artist. And I'll tell you another great asset to MJ... his ability to create Top quality music all without bring able to read it.... he said it'll ruin his arrangement process, the CREATIVE process!!! WHOA BRO...
I would say he is the collaborative director, composer and arranger for all his work, but I wouldn't say he's a musician if he isn't playing the instruments. He certainly isn't on quincy jones level when it comes to the music.
@@fatimadarwish-gv2er Michael never wanted to be in Quincy level anyway. He had his own limitation but he wrote, composed, produced, he performed his music. He's a musician.
@@EricSmith-jo1lt People don't want to know if he played instruments off stage. They just wanted him to be perfect on stage doing everything because they themselves are not perfect 😂
he played a little piano, guitar and drums (he learned a bit from his brothers) but never on the records.
We all are focused on Michael Jackson, and it's normal. He was a genius. But I'd like to say "Shout out to another Genius" that is Chris. The way he explains all those things to us is just incredible. He puts all his energy in order to make us understand all about the process...
I knew there was alot going on in this, but, I had no idea just how much. MJ had such a musical brain. He was out of this world.
He said there was a running music video in his head constantly.
You can hear the aggressive energy that he gave to this song, like no other recorded MJ track. Given what he went through in terms of being falsely accused, the anger is definitely there. I believe MJ was on his way to a second string of #1 pop album hits, but came to a halt when someone clearly wanted him dead. Too many odd circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
I love this song, unfortunately Michael's short film songs are so underrated, thank you for that, kisses from Brazil ❤️.
Yes they really are mr beast gets more views than MJ the KING of pop.
@@Jess-gq1er ❤️❤️
You should see the ghost video for this song. Amazing work.
I wondering if you can bring to us songs such as:
- Dangerous
- Stranger in Moscow
- heartbreaker
- invincible
- 2000 watts
- whatever happens
- Privacy / Cry
- Why You Wanna Trip On Me
- Tabloid Junkie / Money
- Breaking News / Morphine
I think everyone going to enjoy those songs .
Tabloid junkie!!!
Heartbreaker goes crazy. Hell, all of them go crazy.
Breaking news is not an MJ song. That was a fraudulent MJ impersonator posing as MJ
Morphine would be amazing.
@@mikkolaine23 The profanity.
He's untouchable, incredible, sensational genius. Miss him
The more impressive part is that those beats he’s making vocally was where the track started, it wasn’t added later. This formed the basis of everything the producers had to follow and jackson would have layered this on tape before writing his vocal melodies and eventually lyrics
Micheal was one of the producers
PRODUCER(S)
Michael Jackson
Jimmy Jam
Terry Lewis
René Moore
Bruce Swedien
DIdn't even notice the harmonies. Omg. his harmonies, I usually always recognize them, but here they were really hidden. Remember the Times, Rock with you both have incredible harmonies
he doesn t need instruments or percussion to create and perform incredible songs
Genius. We're talking about a track that isn't even that well known and is clearly a work of art! Only those who are a fan of Michael really know how amazing he is!
michael jackson songs are masterpieces. technically and musically.
This song was personal to MJ.. the anger and anguish in his delivery is real, raw & powerful.. thank you for revealing the utter brilliance in the musical layers.. He was the instrument!
💯
The estate should give us a Michael Jackson "RAW" album.
Big FACTS
They have one with his older Jackson 5 stuff with stripped down vocals.
Never gonna happen
He truly was a musical genius. I hope a lot more people start to wake up and realize that he wasn't the monster that the media portrayed him to be. He was innocent, and a beautiful human being and his music should be listened to and studied for eternity.
Michael Jackson is the King of Harmonies!
MJ + Chris Liepe = Perfection.
Mike's ear for music and vocal arrangements was Impeccable . he was around all the greats as a little boy ...
Michael was so in his bag! Love the break down Chris! (Random fact the rapper in the song is famous NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal!)
Such an underrated MJ tune!
In is underrated in Imbecileville and surrounding dumps.
Michael Jackson is a treasure of UNESCO Human History and Heritage. One day people on other planets will celebrate and study his musical, performance, and film making genius/mastery for thousands of years.
I'd love to see you pick apart Michael's song Tabloid Junkie! It's one of my favorite songs ever and also has a lot of beatboxing in it as well 😊❤️
Love your videos! 😁✌️
Nothing like Michael Jackson harmonies. They take me to another place.
Also, the choreography to this song is a master piece, watch the 'Ghosts' 40 min+ short film, it's in there! In the making of Ghosts you can see how he comes up with the dance and challenges the co-choreographers to give the very best!
Yea! The making of Ghost! Where he's sitting down on the set casual wear hitting them with ideas! The finger tap on the floor gets me! Legendary!
@@CCJD Yeah its pretty amazing to see the process
His creativity was almost limitless..thanks for disassembling these for us..he was an incredible composer
@ 20:31 “I Don’t Wanna Talk About it” was also used in the song behind the mask
17:18
His adlibs on I can't make it another day
I’m not even four minutes in and I’m already amazed. 2 bad has much more of a hip hop vibe to it than I ever realized 🔥
Mike did EVERYTHING bro. And ppl think we're exaggerating when we say that??? Pfft no, it's true. The only reason he didn't touch down on country is because he owned a good portion of those artists portfolios
👍
This made me smile all the way through.... this s one of my all time fav of him... the genius of Michael will never be duplicated. He was everything.
9:24 this is sooososoososossooso goood .. mmmmmmmmmmmm. 2 BAD it gets lost in the mix ah i am obsessed, i could just listen to the mmmmmmms without any other singing ... and his vocals are still young they sound so young.
This is the one I been waiting for!! I knew this was gone be great. I mean without music & just Michael's beat boxing you have song. This guy was literally a genius
Underrated track. The genius of Michael Jackson.
I'm pretty sure I've watched every single one of these listening sessions of Michael's music and every time I'm astounded. I know how insanely complex his music was and yet it all functions like clockwork. I am starting to understand that Michael probably didn't have all of these tracks in his head all at once when these songs popped into his head, he just improvised and built off all the sounds, he is an improviser just like you said in this video.
And the craziest part about it is.... he did that with ALL the Hot Damn songs he wrote, even the slower ballads to classical like "Childhood". I read somewhere that he sung, creating an ENTIRE fkn arrangement right before the eyes of other "musicians", producers, writers, all just simply tryna capture him in his element, they couldn't believe it. AND all the while not being able to READ music... and able STILL hit every note in its proper fashion. He said it himself, he doesn't read because he feels it'll ruin the entire arrangement.... The way he's hearing it, IN HIS HEAD!!! WHOA, BRO... His fkn creative process was, unlike anything I've ever felt or seen. I can't think of ANY artist that can pull this off. We HAVE no choice bt to shed light on something that's been right under folks noses for all these years in Michael Jackson. Have to give credit where it belongs
It's certainly amazing how Michael beatboxed all these separate many instruments & sounds & percussions and
memorized the whole songs that he wrote until he got to tape it (like when he was in an airplane). AMAZING &
GENIUS!!! *****R.I.P MICHAEL******
What the Hell...I didn't know michael jackson was that in depth into music ..just WOW 😮😲
Dude was a genius.
The fact that people still think this is mind-boggling and sad. Legit so strangely underrated. Poor guy
When MJ died, i felt extremely sad because in that moment it felt like that was the day that music died....point being that this guy was on a whole other level that will never be duplicated or created again
most depressing comment on the internet tbh.
I'm a Michael Jackson fan since I heard Smooth Criminal when I was 6. I'm turning 40 next month and I really appreciate the content creators like you disecting MJ songs with the original tracks. It's really amazing what you discover by hearing this. So many under rated songs that are just awesome, like 2Bad wich I personaly play in my car really loud when I'm alone 😃. Keep bringing more MJ! We really miss him.
BLOWN.
AWAY.
😶
When you think you heard everything, Michael Jackson shows that you haven´t herard anything, yet ...
Thank you for playing this, and also for your wonderful observations and explanations!
Thats why is he forever the King of Pop.
Just stunningly intricately awesome, such a loss to humanity! I miss you daily, Michael ❤❤❤
There is a treasure trove of incredible music in HIStory, most of it overlooked. It’s my favorite MJ album.
And THANK YOU for exploring his skills as an arranger and producer… he did this himself, no Quincy.
This is just fantastic!
So much passion, its just amazing!
This man, Michael Jackson..
-what a Legend!
I adore 2BAD… the power, aggression, the sheer FUNK. A pleasure as always, thank you. #AmplifyMJ ❤️
I'm here for all the MJ videossss. Thank you for this, I love this series 🤩
Glad you like them! ...And thanks for sticking around :) !!
Using these samples you can make one bad ass hip hop song
Slow it down take a little bit of that beat boxing in a little bit of that percussion put together
Take some of the snares out or someone to kicks out
Find a badass bass line
I can hear it already
Please do it! :3
I’ve done it! Gonna dance to it and release it on social media 😎 artist name is Lematiq
Wow. Really. One moment - chorus when all the beatbox and singing(no drums) was on. That was working without anything else. Just Michael. That is really something. Bravo MJ
Someone in the comments said people think that Michael Jackson is underrated, but it is undisputed, that he is the best music artists of the 20th century.
Amazing. Mike was a G, but he beatboxed the hell out of this! Can't Let her Get Away is also super layered and complex. probably his mist complex song (but sadly also his most underlooked and underrated one). I recommend checking it out
Michael Jackson had so much talent. His beat boxing skills were incredible. So much of this stuff goes under the radar. Great video.
MJ is a monster in music.
At 17:07 it's amazing only with his incredible voice 😍
He was lauded as one of the greatest entertainers ever... and somehow still was underrated. This mastery of his voice and his ability to translate his ideas to music with the help of extremely talented personell around him... Stone cold genius.
19:01 LITERALLY MY FAVORITE PART
GREATEST ARTIST EVER!
I love 2 bad! Can't wait to listen to all this. Thank you so much for your detailed analysis. Michael Jackson despite being celebrated was also vocally very underrated
Michael Jackson is the most emulated artist on this planet you have little kids from ages 3 - 14 who know about this man his legacy will proceed time
Thank you so much for sharing. I could listen to MJ's beatboxing for hours. Absolutely amazing.
I love the way Chris goes through the original tracks and points out details that we don't hear in the final version, but that we feel with our body and soul.
Good job Chris! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
He made the sound of the future 20-30 years ago
your analysis video let everyone knows how great he was, the king of music forever
MJ = Pure Genius 🔥
Wow. I knew there was a lot going on in that song but I had no idea. Jam & Lewis could have produced the whole thing with just his voice and I think it would have been even better. The amount of work Michael puts into these songs is astonishing.
J&L did this?! Wow!
@@mssha1980 Yes. They did Scream, History, 2 Bad and Tabloid Junkie. They also produced Is It Scary on Blood On The Dance Floor.
Amazing!!! Bringing out more of Michael’s greatness and inspiration too. He could have done a whole album of just his voice. He was his own instrument.
I want everyone to listen to this breakdown. Chris' passion and insight and MJ's sheet talent are a great match. Every time I watch one of these videos and I am buzzing for hours. We are blessed to be in a time where MJ's legacy can be understood and continued. Thanks Chris, once again for your time and commitment. Please look at Stranger in Moscow and Lady in My Life.
I've got some files for Stranger but they are incomplete... prolly still worth digging into ?
Spot on.... the most percussive vocalist ever....
I've recently discovered this song weeks ago and been addicted to it, always wanted you to cover it so I'm glad you made this video. It such a great piece of art just like the rest of his songs.
Wooo 2Bad let's go! One of my favourite songs.
There are simply no words...this is beyond genius. MJ's compleat body in&out was just music in all it's facets.
And may we appreciate in what good hands this material has landed. Respect en gratitude Sir Liepe !!
Oh yee..The greatest artist in music history. I love his own freedom in music how he changes music styles to express himself and make statements...amazing. Thank you Chris
Thank you for your expertise on “Too bad” by Michael Jackson. It’s amazing! I’ve never ever listened to anyone like him. “Ghosts” is such an incredibly GREAT film. Can’t even express the magnitude of his natural talent❤sharing everywhere I possibly can share this.
Hi Leslie, thank you so much for sharing this amazing video, its so great to see how much the professionals appreciate Michael as a great musician, I wish if he would be able to see this , this would make him so happy as he love when poeple analize and appreciate his great music. ❤️🙏👑🤟🦋🌻
@@nelumsooriampola Hi Nelum! You are most welcome! I shared it with so many people and everyone is loving it… I can’t wait to watch more of his MJ videos. No doubt about it…Michael Jackson was musically a beast! I sat there listening and my eyes just got wider and wider. One of my all time favorites from MJ and Chris, by opening up the track, you showed me the magic in there I didn’t even know existed! Totally shared your excitement there! Thanks so much 🥹
I like his beatboxing, he actually knows how to beatbox it's not just this song that he beatboxes in his other songs as well😀
Thanks for doing one of the lesser known album tracks. There are so many gems like these that go relatively underappreciated.
I'd like to have seen you dive deeper into the clean harmonies during the second verse/prechorus, because that's the sickest part of the song to me. I think you only explored two tracks when to my ears there's more like 6-7 layers of harmonies in that section. I do get that your time is limited, just nitpicking :)
This has always been a track i really admired but this video made me apreciate it even more!
So much fun hearing this! Can’t stress enough how much I’ve learned by studying Michael’s vocals and productions. It has had a massive impact on how I create vocal arrangements and audio soundscapes. Much love, E
And I've been waiting for this one for a long time! I'm so glad you finally were able to do it. Thank you so much for opening this track up!
I have to comment before even watching the video. Just TODAY I watched a video on "In The Studio With MJ" channel about the making of this song. I recommend watching that too!
Just a million thank yous again. This was just amazing and one the best out of these MJ multitracks. I wish you went even deeper to the drum beats and grooves though - they are my personal favorite part of MJ tracks.
So great!!! Love hearing all of the amazing detail that we dont often get to appreciate in the final mix! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your professional music and sound explanations. It makes me more appreciating Michael s vocal talent able to control his voice and transform it in instrumental sounds. UNIQUE!
yessss!! 2 Bad is one of my favorites because of how over the top he is and expansive he was on this entire project. so lovely to see your interesting reactions to him too lol
Best thing i’ve seen in a long time!!!
Thank you! One of the most under appreciated tracks Micheal recorded. I truly enjoyed this breakdown! 2Bad is raw, aggressive and hard hitting. I now have even more love for the track and Michael as an artist
Finally!
