Thank you everyone, I would love to try out some mods for this, if anyone has any suggestions I would like to give it a go, I have only ever played the base game. Also I definitly want to do a video of me trying online multiplayer for the first time. I think I would get totally smashed haha.
My personal favourites in terms of mods are Rise of the Reds - or more recently, I've been real into 'The End of Days' (TEOD) - both are fantastic mods...!
Its so good theres still a huge fanbase and even world championships. Its a great game albeit a few bugs and a really painful online experience. Wish it had multiplayer through steam..

And we just had a LAN party in the Netherlands with a prize pool of 4,000€ .. There are patches to this game and fixes to make it playable on newer systems ..

As B.Legacy mentioned, we just had a LAN dedicated to ZH with a 4K Euro prize pool, and the World Series (now at the semi final stage) has a $20k prize pool, of which I hold the majority (so I’m also a community treasurer!) Attack move doesn't target buildings to accommodate strategies involving capturing enemy buildings without accidentally destroying them. If you want a full attack move that includes structures, you'll have to use the Guard command (G). Better yet, enable "Double-click Guard" in the game options so you can just double click on the ground and your units will automatically attack move, then start guarding once they reach the location (and yes. this attack move includes structures). Nice video, nice to see another ZH enjoyer 🙂

One of the best RTS If not the best. So many funny mechanics and aspects on it. There are community patches that fix many problems too since it is 20+ years old. The only downside is that becomes unstable during multiplayer with many players(many units) but that is pretty minor problem for most people. Check multiplayer competitive games to see how fun this game really is.
I never had the pleasure of playing generals, Red Alert 2 and Tiberium wars were a blast back in the day though. Have you ever played Total Annihilation? It was released around the same time as starcraft but was pretty ahead of its time. It still has a pretty active community too with people updating the game engine with big fixes and the like, and a pretty active modding community.
I love this game. Not only do the GLA have armed motorcycles, and IMO armed motorcycles are the greatest units in the Command and Conquer franchise, bur you can actually change the infantry character manning the Motorcycle and thus change its weapon. A mixed force of Machine Gun and Rocket Launcher armed Motorcycles is a beautiful thing especially if you have a well placed tunnel entrance to slip them behind enemy lines to wreak havoc. And if you play the Chinese you can hack the enemies bank accounts and requisition their money. Its too bad the US forces in the game don't get any cool toys like these.
I'm still playing Zero Hour! Twilight Flame again and again and again, 2vs2vs2vs2. I'm weakest with the Tank General, strongest with GLA or any of their special Generals!
@@Hairyjake BAR is Total Annihilation remade for the present day and een BIGGER, even though Total A itself is still modded and has an online community through Escalation, Mayhem and TA Pro mods.....on its own online client Total Annihilation Forever....
I enjoyed how you refenced to the factions in this game as "races" :D ... anyway, this is one game that will never get a remaster for political reasons.
This was before EA came and killed the RTS genre. And am glad that shitty Command and conquer generals 2 got cancelled because it looked NOTHING like this game
What you are talking about with the 8 player maps slowing down isnt true generally, you are referring to twilight flame map only which has performance issues, true, same cannot be said for other 8 player maps. Zero Hour still has a very active community, currenty holding the World Series (biggest tournament) with a pricepool of 20000$ or something ridiculous. It is a very toxic community with a lot of russian and specifically arab players which tend to lag and hack a lot sadly. It is active on gameranger and radmin (similar to hamachi)

I can't after all this time, no one has been able to replicate the gameplay of Generals/Zero Hour. It's mind boggling.

This game proves EA can actually put their name on something and have it last decades… if they abandon it!
