Hi, new viewer here. How exciting that Sims 4 base band is now free?! To answer your housing question, houses having similar styles are often based on the neighborhood. For example, I live in New Orleans and grew up in San Francisco. Since both cities have old houses of certain styles, if you live in a historical neighborhood, your house has to meet certain historical requirements. HOA run neighborhoods tend to have requirements regarding house colors, yard maintenance, etc. Overall, "regular" neighborhoods don't often have so many restrictions or guidelines but the city may have general laws regarding how far away from the sidewalk the house needs to be, where fence lines can start, and so on. Very pretty build!
Neighborhood rules like that only apply if you live in a neighborhood with an HOA. I've definitely seen some neighborhoods where one house as straight up pink and the house next to it is super modern and white 😂
Its actually mostly the neighborhood covenent. Any overly specific ones would be HOA though. Learned this recently while buying a home in an area with no HOAs.

Yeah, in Louisiana, some lots require the homes to be only built and not trailers. Kinda sucks, but there's other real estate. And I made it to the end!
I love this house especially the way you used that roof piece to cleverly do the curve wall in the inspiration pic. I live in a neighborhood with a HOA and they have all kinds of rules about what you can build or plant on your property and even what colors you can use. I think that's pretty standard in the US for neighborhoods with a home owners association but not so much in just regular neighborhoods. I do like in sims when my neighborhoods look cohesive. I would have never guesses this house was base game from the exterior.
My neighborhood HOA is strict. We got a shed and they said it had to be the same material and color as the outside of your house. You also shouldn't be able to see it if you're standing at the front of the house 🥴

Funny you mention about the house restrictions. In Toronto a ton of neighbourhood cited a new build that looks horrible in the neighbourhood but by itself is very nice. There's no HOA but there's def a complaint you can file. Guy had to agree to changes so it wouldn't look ridiculous in the neighbourhood (casting shadows because it's so big, tooo modern amongst old homes, colours)

I’m in LA and in terms of “neighborhood style” there are no rules, at least not in my neighborhood. I don’t mind though, it’s actually really cool because I’m really into modern architecture and in my suburban LA neighborhood the lots are small and there are from the 1920-40s to ultra modern mini homes right next to each other! I love admiring them all they’re so interesting!

For a landing area idea you could turn it into a play area for toddlers 😄 my friend lives in a two story house and they have a huge landing that they set up as the play room for their kids ☺️
where I live you can build whatever house or paint the house however you want, they might have to follow some bullet points for gated communities but that's about it
Your question about a “law in a city that has a rule you can’t paint your house” is actually called a Homeowner’s Association, or an HOA. It’s is specific to an individual neighborhood. Some cities also has ordinances that you can’t do certain things, and those are usually specific to zoning areas that are licensed for businesses or historical areas. Hope this helps :)

Hello Ashley, i was wondering if you could make a small (not tiny) house for a single person with a dog and a cat? 😊 (like 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, study room/mini library, kitchen, living room and wide yard for the pets) i have a lot of ideas and visual but i’m bad at building so it’s frustrating, i enjoy and love your builds a lot and a lot of your builds actually suit my taste of house (in term of style and design) ❤ or maybe an apartment place with loft and main spotlight is the natural light (tall windows as wall) with rustic theme ❤
American here from the southern east coast and our HOAs seem to be so picky, at least when it comes to things like blinds, making sure stuff in the window isn't gawdy or broken or something; idk about the style of the home but that's a good question

Its really upsetting how base game is so hard to work with cus of its outdated style but you really made it work! 💕💕 I also have trouble with designing the landing area, but in real life that part of the house has an altar, ah yes the typical kind of asian catholic household kind of altars, and a built in cabinets for towels, beddings and cleaning stuffs hidden away. Just sharing for some inspo maybe 🤷🤷
we have that rule in our estate it has to be brick, no front fence you can have a back fence, our estate is considered semi-rural, and of course the back paddock has cattle, when the owner re-builds the back fence, we will ask if we could have a gate not your normal gate in a Surburban area but a farm gate.

Yes in real life the homes have to follow some parallel constraints according to the homeowners association, if there is one. Many times, if a potential buyer is unwilling to abide by the homeowners associate outlines, then the realtor won’t even sell to him or the neighborhood nobodies will pester and menace them to abandonment lol

In Michigan, some neighborhoods have an HOA (house association) and they have rules and some you have to get a house approved before you can build or renovate it.
In Malaysia, we did have the rules that u cant renovate the outside of the house, they need to be the same style for whole neighborhood. But this rule is made by developers and mostly for expensive houses, so that the whole place looks good and able to mantain the high prices.
In some areas are these restrictions about the building style, but as far as I know the most common would be that you have to have a certain roof color

In Sweden you need to adapt to the neighbourhood as well. Someone made their house pink and they had to pay a fine and repaint it.
